Well, my Hemi just pulled a Hemi this morning.
Considering a new Ram 2500 again. Any Ram salesmen members in So Cal?

Drive the ford sd, I can’t say enough about the 10 speed transmission and the interior is excellent too. Don’t buy the ram to at least try the super duty.

I’m curious what pulling a Hemi means?
Lifted failure or?
What year is it? Miles?

We got a 2023 and couldn't be happier. The 10 speed is awesome, comfort is next level and the turning radius is better then our old bronco we had.

I’ll say the same for the GMC. 10 speed and creature comforts/build quality are excellent.

Hunter Ram in Palmdale/Lancaster had best prices when I bought - was worth the drive from San Diego.

Or the Ford Tritan V8-V10's that spit spark plugs. I lived that one. Still have the motorhome.
Ford had an interesting spark plug problem…they either came out on their own or wouldn’t come out at all. I’ve always been baffled how a manufacturer could take such a simple thing and fuck it up to such epic proportions

With GM it was slipyokes

With Mopar it’s….well, most everything.

2017 Ram 1500. Did the exhaust manifolds at 80k miles. They are do again now at 155k but I've been holding out. The real Hemi issue is the lifters. The stupid multi displacement crap causes premature failure. I have somehow managed to avoid that for a long time, but it finally happened. Getting repair quotes now to see if I want to fix it and keep it, fix and sell, or just ditch it as is....

Wife and I looked at the GMC 2500 AT4. Truck is really nice and available in her favorite color. BUT.... she really likes the mega cab in the Ram.
I've had Rams for over 20 years now and have been overall happy with them. Only truck I would really consider changing to is the GMC.
IMO, none of the trucks are without issues, it really just comes down to what you like these days.

Truck is clean and still the nicest truck I have ever owned. Bought it used in 2020 with 38,000 miles on it. Only issue it has ever had is the manifolds and I had to replace the water pump. Always serviced, and tows great for a 1500. Definitely a tough call. Fix it and keep it knowing that things are bound to fail at this point. Or shell out $80-100k on a new diesel. I'll keep you posted.

There’s some deals on some late model used truck on carguru also I see him all the time you might get something that is one year old and saves you 10 or 15,000. Should you decide to go down that route? A lot of people get over their head financially.

And of course, always get the max extended warranty with any diesel purchase. As an example of friend is looking for a Ford F250 platinum they’re over $100,000 window sticker he found one online for $86,000. That’s one year old. And of course in Arizona you don’t pay sales tax if you pick it up in my private person or get clear title somehow. If you look at the Fords, make sure it’s a 23 or new a lot changed.

Cam and lifters shouldn't be too expensive at the right shop, but the bigger question is - how bad did it eat the cam? If you caught it quick and stopped driving it, the motor is likely fine (unless it damaged a lifter bore) and it didn't pump metal thru the engine. If not . . it may need an engine. Easy way to check before you spend any money to tear into it, would be to have a UOA done on the engine oil and also have the filter cut open and inspect the filter pleats for metal. Whoever cuts the filter open needs to make sure they use a proper cutter and not a grinder - the grinder will just send metal into the pleats inside and the inspection will be useless.

Good luck!

Just traded my 2019 RAM 1500 limited Hemi with 93k miles. Manifolds replaced twice, lifter noise was making me nervous, smokey at startup, other than that I loved the truck. Ended up with a 2024 F250 HO Diesel Lariat ultimate Tremor. Very comfortable (for a HD truck), tech and features mostly better executed than RAM, 21MPG on my last Havasu trip, crazy 1200Ft/Lbs of torque stock.

Huntington Beach ram best discounts
Avoid that place like the plague. They will get you in on the price and then upsell the shit out of you. I walked out and bought a vehicle cheaper at another dealer without all of the BS.

FYI, My Ford F250 diesel Tremor has had zero problems. 76k miles and counting........

RUN AWAY FROM THEM. I walked out of that place after an hour. no one could give me a straight answer, speaking farsi to each other infront of me pointing to the truck i had selected. buddy bought one online from them, had it done, went to pickup and they jerked him around for 2 hours trying to get him to sign for more warranty and there was a bunch of other BS with his transaction. i know a few guys who got took to the cleaners at their service department. i bought from Tuttle click in Irvine, painless.

Dude I work with just bought the GMC AEV 2500….waiting for it…..

104k!

Bitchin truck though. Blacking out the grill on the GCM is a game changer. Changes the whole look of the truck and makes it look night and day better.

But 104k?! 🤮🤮

New F250 Lariat 7.3 should be less than 80k OTD. So far so good with my f350, first Ford I ever owned. Way too much technology though.

If you are able to hold out for a ‘25, the Ram HD is supposed to have the 8 speed trans behind the diesels.

That is a nicely done up truck. Perfect IMO and useable once fixed. If rebuilt have them ditch that DOD system if possible.

This DOD bullshit is problematic for GM and Ram. Ford has a different list I'm sure.

Okay.... So long story short, I'm looking at new Ram 2500's. What is the latest word on registering said truck at "my" address in Bullhead? Tricky part is going to be having a loan on the vehicle is my guess. I know....RDP members only pay cash for everything, but I can't pull that off. Any helpful tips?

If you change your mind about the Dodge and are interested in Fords shoot me a DM. My son is a salesman at Rancho Santa Margarita Ford and will take care of RDP members. Because he digs deep to understand the truck market, he can give you the pros and cons of the top 3. Just don't expect an unreasonable number on trade ins. They are in the top 3 of Ford dealers by volume and customer satisfaction in the nation.

Update:

Appears the Hemi dropped a valve seat causing the valve to bend and stick open until the piston closed it. Rather than mess with it, I opted for a new ATK engine with a 4 year warranty. My mechanic who I've known since 5th grade, gave me his cost on the engine so overall, not a bad deal. Should have it all back together in the next day or so. Altogether, the new engine installed is under $7k.
My plan now is to sell the truck to my son and commandeer his Tacoma. I'm selling the Tacoma, and selling him my truck for a couple grand just to teach him a little about making truck payments...LOL
We purchased a 2024 Ram 2500 Limited last weekend and love it so far. Got it well under sticker price and got the extended warranty as suggested.

Here's the new truck
IMG_7355.JPG

I'll be listing the Tacoma for sale once my 1500 is finished. 2003 Prerunner with 165k miles. Nice little truck.
