Hey Hula, not to side track this thread, but the pics of your new ride reminded me.
What's up with the ceiling in the Hula Hut, is it metal ? I've never seen anything like that in a garage or shop, so I've been meaning to ask.

Yep. White steel.

same material as the exterior siding. I built the hula hut using conventional framing. 2x6 studs on 16" centers, sheathed with 7/16" osb, housewrap, then the "polebarn" tin as siding.
Inside, I hung plastic sheeting on the ceiling for a vapor barrier, then white "polebarn" tin for the finish.

The walls have an inch of sprayfoam, then r-19 fiberglass, then more plastic sheeting, then 7/16" osb, that I primed with Sherwin Williams heavy duty block filling primer (it fills in the nail holes and any hairline gaps) then top coated it with Sherwin Williams tile clad water based epoxy. It's a glossy, bright white, durable and cleanable finish. Roof trusses are 2' centers, sheathed with 1/2" osb, then synthetic under layment (replaces roofing felt) then 26ga concealed fastener standing seam steel.

Before I did the sprayfoam deal,
I served a union apprenticeship as a carpenter. I've been self employed since I got my journeyman in 2001. Built a lot of vacation homes here in cheeseland.
Been doing the foam and coatings gig for 5 years.

Nice !! Did you insulate above the ceiling as well ? I'm asking because pole barns are popular up in the mountains where my ranch is located. Cold winters, warm summers, so if I build one, I want it fairly well insulated. Great idea for the ceiling, can't recall seeing that done before. Most I've seen have no ceilings and are poorly insulated. Thanks !!

Yep. Did blown fiberglass, just like I removed from the project I just finished.
In the climate I live in, you can't hardly get enough insulation in the attic. I ordered the roof truss with 12" heels. (Thinnest point where it sits on the wall)
I blew a r-60 up there. Proper vents, or chutes in every truss space. The sheeting is cut back 4 inches to allow venting at the ridge. Perforated aluminum soffit panels at the eaves.

It's kind of a disaster in here. Between fixing up my pickup, running through damn near a semi load of sprayfoam, and driving all over the damn country again, I need a day to clean up and put tools away. And that's what's goin on today. ;)

Cold in there .

Um, that's beer drinkin' weather here in Cheeseland. And a great working temp in a t-shirt if you're actually doing something like sanding, welding, grinding, etc. I keep mine between 55 and 65 for the most part, 70 if we're trying to get fiberglass to cure.

I never realized the steel building thing we have here isn't everywhere. HeadlessHula's shop is not uncommon in these parts. Definitely not your normal pole shed.

So how does she run?
Pretty good. A helluva lot smoother than the baja that's for sure. It was blowin 20 and the 40 degrees on the test ride. Wasn't really looking to air it out. Lol...

It does 60 quite effortlessly .

I'll start a new thread in the restorations and upgrades section when I get rolling on this whole program.

So the "Johnny" he's referring to is me. He's helped me so much on my boat asked for another set of eyes on his new sled, so I headed to the HulaHut to check it out.

I like it. It's built really well, tied together in a lot of spots all over, should be a tight ride.

There's opportunity to really clean up the rigging. If the battery(s) move to starboard and fuel filter moves to starboard the inner transom will clean up nicely.

We talked over dash options and HeadlessHula needs to ponder for a few days and come to a decision.

It's already a nice ride, it's just going to get refined. With the berth this thing has and abundance of storage space everywhere I can see spending the entire weekend on this. He'll do it, mark my words!:D
