My pool project - 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag. I have a small backyard, but we made it work.
Demo, the start of the mess. My very kind neighbors let me use there back yard to do most of the work. You can see my old fence in this picture.
Starting the lay out.
What a mess this whole thing was. I'm glad it's over.
Could not have done it without super cool neighbors. Note the spa and grotto, baja or shamu shelf in the next picture
My boy had a good time in the dirt, throwing dirt clods.
rebar going in. I was impressed with the guys that dug the hole they were artists with the little back ho. The rebar guys were fast.
Grotto starting to take shape. Yes I went over board with this but I wanted a water fall and a good jumping rock.
Put the boy to work on the rock. I had a great rock guy, Richard Winget. He is in my phone as Richard the rock guy. He does work all over the place, museums, Disney Land that type of stuff, he lives in HB. He and his guys did a great job. When we first met I told him I wanted some fossils and a shelf to put my drink, the shelf had to hold a 22oz. I was sort of joking and his response was "no problem consider it done", he also said he could build me a t-rex skull with flames shooting out of it but it would cost a little more.
I'm missing some photos in here but I'm sure you guys get the idea. Deck starting. After three weeks of rock work and plumbing, I was stoked to get rid of the dirt. Before this I made sure to run extra conduit everywhere. My pool guy thought I was crazy. I will have no overhead lines of any sort over my back yard. Moved my panel to the side of the house and ran conduit for cable, while doing the cable I put some cat6 wires just in case.
So the deck is in.
Fossils in the grotto. The guy actually made the forms of these from the real thing. Said he didn't like to use copies of copies. This reminds me Richard the rock guy told me to send him some samples of rock that I liked. So I found him some pool waterfalls. He said to find some samples from nature. My sample was the hoopoe fails in South Africa.
Tile work going in. I didn't like it and had them redo it. Then onto pebble tec
the wife and I had a difference of opinion on the finish color. I wanted darker, she wanted lighter. We met in the middle and overall we both like it.
Notice I started the landscaping. I needed get the trees in before the new trex fence was put up. I had to search around but I found the SoCal rep for trex. He had a contractor over order so I got a good deal. He also turned me onto a great install guy.
getting ready to have some fun.
In the last photo you might notice a speaker on the wall. Well Zack also known as paradise on RDP hooked me up with an unbelievable system for the back yard. The sound is so clean, I don't think I'm bothering the neighbors. Everyone that has been over has commented on the music and how great it sounds. Four speakers and a sub you bury, Zack and his guys walked me though the setup and tuning.
I used Emerald Bay pools. The guy is a local guy and has been great during the process.
At the start I talked with a number of pool guys including Julian with SoCal pools, who I liked. It all came down to Emerald Bay and SoCal pools. They both came in literally at the same price, so ultimately I went with the local guy. I'm sure Tim and Julian would have done the same excellent job.
