Cool idea but not much weight savings compared to the 300R. Mercury states the 150R & 200R will weigh 469-489 lbs, the 300R is 512 lbs.

Although heavier than the past 2.5's....good to see them developing something for the smaller boat markets...

You can look back at previous posts I have made where I have said I'd love to see Merc bump the HP on their V6 line and keep it in the sub-500lbs range. Nice to see they are doing that. I bet there is a lot more left on the table in those engines too and a good tuner can get a few more ponies out of one putting it close to the power-to-weight ratio of a 300R save a few pounds.

While I can’t comment on specs, I give them props (no pun intended) for at least not ignoring the lower end of their product line.

Should help with all the smaller setups (despite the weight).

200r is designed for boats that run 80-100mph. Would love to know what hull can run 100mph with a 489 lb 200 horsepower outboard.
It will be interesting to see some real world tests... When the 300R came out there were a number of those where top end did not vary much between the lighter two stroke and the heavier four stroke... but the response of the boat changed quite a bit with the 4 stroke.

I have owned 2.5's, 300x's, 300xs's and 300R...and can say the low end touque of the V8 motor and the size of props it can turn made driving a smaller 22 a little more responsive experience; however they sound cool, but definitely not as cool as the racing 2.5 motors...

That being said, F1 boats with 2 strokes are still dominating the podium and 2 yrs into the one team's program of running a V8 APX360, they are not finishing on the podium consistently so its either driver, boat or motor. The new boat that team runs was built for the V8 so it seems the 2 strokes are faster in this format.

I just don't understand how Merc can sit back and see the highest level of small boat racing with F1 and 95% of all racers are using old power that has been discontinued. Hopefully Merc will continue to make more power out of these smaller platforms without increasing bloat.

The APX engine just handed the 2 stroke field their ass in Kankakee a week or so ago.

That's good but I am not familiar with that race. Was it driven by a top driver that just recently switched or a mid pack driver? The results have been different on the F1 circuit. It would be interesting to see what one of the top drivers could do with the new platform.

The gear ratio in the 200r is 1.75 and max rpm is 6400. A 32 pitch wheel gets to 100 with a slip of 10%. With a 28 pitch prop and 10% slip your at 87 mph.

It would be cool to see Jerry (barron boats) rig one of his 19 with one of these. A sub 100k custom boat with this power would be a great lower river boat

I am with you on that...it would have to be ultra light Mirage or STV with HUGE prop IMO...

It would be nice to be able to get 100-105 out of a Mirage, able to shift at low speeds around docks and run 87 octane... Or wonder how 2 200's would run on a new trick... if there was a big price difference may be another option...

Tuff says 86 with 225 4 stroke.

Might need the Competition version (115mph with 280hp), sure.

But the Standard version (which ran 86 with the 225) did so with a stock nose cone which may have limited it some?
