I'm hoping to get rid of my wife's POS VW Cabriolet with the next year. She likes the new 4 door Jeep with the Hardtop conv. I kinda like them too, especially more than her other choice of a VW bug Conv.

Anyone have one of the new jeeps? If so, how do you like them?

I'm most likely going to look for one that already has some nicer wheels and maybe a 2-3 inch lift.

How is the power. They don't really offer options for engine packages anymore.

The 4dr Wrangler aren't bad, but I saw something that made me sick the other day....It was a 2WD Jeep Wrangler! Why not get a Liberty or a Cherokee if you want a 2WD.

Jeep and Dodge are making quality stuff now-a-days (is that a word?). Less problems with all of my recent Dodges and Jeeps combined than just one of my Chevy P/U's. The back seat in the 4-door Wrangler is big. They look cool too. I just wish they had the 4.7 V8. I'd buy one if I had the $$.

They are gas guzzlers.

Its a Jeep ot a Prius. My TJ only got about 13-14 MPG. I would guess these get about 14-15.

If gas and towing power are a concern get a Hemi Durango...great SUV. My Hemi Durango 4x4 got about 15-17mpg with full-time AWD and was rated to tow 7,700#. Did a great job towing the 25' Cobalt and the 25' Keystone TT. Jeep Wrangler tow ratings are only about 3,500#.

I looked at buying a jeep right when the new model came out. At the time, I hated the JK, however, they have grown on me and I might buy one today (I bought the TJ Rubi)

As far as I've heard, the only questionable thing about them was the new V-6. People were saying it may not be as reliable, but it's been in their minivans (I believe) so I would think it would be OK. Don't know any specifics there.

Also, as someone said, many of the four door models (initially at least) were 2X. Either way, I'm sure it would be a fun purchase. Good luck.

I think they are cool, and I have a friend who has one and he loves it.....the hard top, soft top sun roof is great!

The new wranglers are great. If you get one that has a lift on it make sure you get coils all around the rear of these new jeeps like to sag, if you put anything bigger than a stock tire on the rear tailgate you will have a problem with the rear door rattling due to broken spot welds. Just buy a tire carrier/bumper you will be much happier. Oh and just remember what JEEP stands for. Just Empty Every Pocket!

Your right engine straight out of a mini van.

They have a ton more room. They are much wider tan any other Jeep which is not a trail benefit. Also if you lift one a whole bunch of junk turns problems.

CV Drive shafts have to be changed to U joint type
Once lifted the Stability crap needs to be eliminated

To each his own. I will say we had a guy along on a Odessa Canyon trip (Calico) and we had to drag him everywhere. Stock height they are tough to wheel beyond a dirt road.

Now if they were to make a JK in my TJ Unlimited length then I would consider it for a future purchase.

I sold the wifes Expidition and got a 07 JK, Great looking, Fun when the tops off on a perfect day,

But...........

No insulation in the top, Very hot when its hot, Very cold when its cold... Back seat has no air and is very bench like, I know its a Jeep but no creecher comforts....

Power is fair and mileage is about 15 in the city.

Havent had any mechanical issues in 12k miles

Thanks for the feedback.

If we get one of these, it will be just to cruise around town. We really like the hard top with the removable front section.
Mileage ratings we saw are 18/22. That's about the same as out 96 Grand Chereokee with the 4.0.

We're not planning of any serious 4xing or towing. Pretty much use our Excursion for that.
Just want to throw a small lift on it. Maybe some 31-32 inch BFGs and cruise it.
Like I mentioned, my wife has also mentioned the PT cruiser convertible and the new VW bug convertible. Can't really see myself driving one of those.

I wish they still offered the 4.0. I had 1 Cherokee that ran 165000 with just maintenance and our current Grand Cherokee has been trouble free for the 8-9 years that we've owned it (120000 miles on it now).

I'm just concerned that the 3.6 may be a little underpowered.

It is great with the T tops out it take my wife about 5 minutes to take them out herself,

We have the trunk which give her a out of site place for her laptop and stuff when the tops are out,

If you get the softtop also its a pain to take down and tough on the finger tips.

But once again fun to drive...

Hey Focker!
You still have the Porsche project that you finished last year? I bet that's fun to drive.

I'm pretty sure they come stock with 32's, no lift needed unless you're going for looks.

On second thought the Rubicon model might have the 32's, not sure.
