What is really striking to me about this thread is the design of the boats being farmed out...I'm sure they all had input but that would be like GM farming out truck design to Ford and then Ram tweaking that design for their own...maybe I'm naive in thinking this is so insane but to me a company building a product should design that product from the ground up....I mean this is a "custom boat build" so are you buying a truly "custom" interceptor or a tweaked and cheapened up DCB???

Sorry this is just mind boggling to me lol

Carry on...
I disagree with this. I think you might be looking at it wrong a little bit. We’re talking about small quantity, custom boat builders here. Not GM, Ford, or Fiat.

Many custom manufacturing industries utilize a handful of skilled designers in that field. Sand cars and offroad race vehicles are a perfect example. How many Chassis has Craig Hall designed? Not everyone knows how to model a boat in CAD, so multiple manufactures are forced to use the people that do(or they’ll be left behind by that manufactures that progress the industry).

Just because this was designed by the same person that designed the M37, does not mean that this is an M37 with a different deck.

Lot of negativity over the prospect of a new boat design hitting the market lol.

Im a fan of anyone bringing new designs to market in the boating industry. One that stands out is the new Conquest Boss Cat. Great lines and seem to work well.

I think if you dug into it you’d find that a lot of car manufacturers Farm out prototype design work. It’s certainly not a new concept in the marine industry. Just because a manufacturer isn’t whittling a new plug design they dreamt up by hand out of an old oak tree from their back yard doesn’t mean the design is any less impressive, effective, or marketable.

And yes, if Bayliner (Brunswick) decided to get in the true tunnel performance market they could make it cheaper and people would buy them lol.

Btw I have no opinion either way about Interceptor. I just think it’s cool they are taking a chance on a new design.

Perhaps take a different perspective on it?
Hydrodynamics.
It’s a science of its own.
It’s nothing new for builders over the years to hire different toolers to come design their boats.
DCB used Rick, formerly of Eliminator.

Thane worked for Hsllett, Elimimator, Nordic, and who ever else?

Don Kirby
Harlin Orrin
They all used Robb King at one time or another.
The list is much longer and as distinguished as above.

Only real difference here is these guys are CAD/CNC bulls vs old school labor.

The fact these guys designed the DCB which seems to work pretty well should give confidence to Interceptor and potential clients the bottom will work.

Well said. People wonder why manufacturers don’t post anymore

Makes more sense now...I was taking it too literal I guess from people saying it looks like the M37 then saying its the same designer.....I took that as it's the same boat just tweaked with a different deck or whatever....sorry like I said I have no dog in this fight as it's out of my reach was just making conversation.

I think it's a badass looking boat regardless although I'm not a huge outboard fan lol....they have their purpose I get it technology and all...I'm just an old school big block kind of guy hahaha

I do agree with above posts in that it's great seeing another option coming to market!! Don't want the industry to die as much as certain groups of people may want it to.....

It’s more common to farm it out than it is to design in house.

Thane tooled a lot of the eliminator models and he didn’t work for eliminator. Rob king designed a lot of boats for a lot of manufacturers and the plugs were farmed out. Ultra back in the day some DCB’s etc..

Not upset.... You questioned my post so I'm responding to your question, hence "conversation". The Bayliner quote was in response to an established builder, they have been around a long time.

I don't doubt they can have buyers, especially if proven and that would be fantastic. I find it hard to believe that 5 are sold prior with just a rendering with no cat building experience.

Maybe "sold" in the boat industry is different, to me its money down and contract signed. That would be hard for ME to do with the first time building a boat of this caliber.

The five sold came from the manufacturer claim. I’d bet they did sell them though..

The only kurfuffle seems to be from the people without a deposit… just like I. This threadS

The people with a deposit just want the best car (or boat) possible, not one rushed into production.
Will just keep it at this. Not going to bring speed into another thread.
