You're not getting my point. I couldn't give a single shit what you ride or how you ride it. And I agree they are not and will not be responsible for trail damage.

My entire premise is about access and those that have the power or authority, with the stroke of a pen, close our trails to ALL BIKES...

When you pick a fight with a well funded and VERY organized group, you're gonna lose and I'll lose my access, right along with yours. But please carry on. I ride road bikes as well.

I've made zero comments about trail damage or "its not a real bike".

LOL wasn't directed at anybody and I agree 100% with you. I think we are basically cut from the same cloth. I rode with one of the preserve directors over the winter and he said ha, good luck we are funded in part with donations from Sierra Club and they have more money to throw at this place.

There are 2 aspects to this, what should be and the reality of what you have to deal with.

I ride MTB 3/4 days a week . I'm 54 . 40-70 miles a week . 1300/ 3300 feet every ride . Been riding for about 15 years. The last 7/8 years pretty serious .

Bought a new Santa Cruz mega tower, a few months back , probably my last pedal only bike I will buy.
As in 5 years most MTB will be riding pedal assist . I think ?
unless they start closing trails to all bikes.
Mostly riding el Preto, red box , valley forge , silver mocassin , front side mount Wilson , and dark side.
Simi, I ride the grudge, Animal , hummingbird , undertow, Chumash , g spot and what ever else
Santiago canyon and the nursery out by canyon lake .
Any of those trails , would be awsome on a pedal assist bike , as you could do 2/3 loops . Easy. Cause going down For me is super fun .

Not easy to do another loop , when it's all pedal.
But all pedal , has put me in some of the best shape , I have been in for the past 30 years.
I started MTB just for that, then it becomes , a passion , then you start watching what you eat and drink And what you put in your body.
MTB has pretty much , changed my life.
I can waterski and snow ski like when I was 20 . That's huge .
But also a little light weight lifting for protection helps a lot .

We also do whistler north star ,mammoth and snow summit park and the jump line at Haines with my demo 8

I know I see many pedal assist bikes , on the trails , I get it , but just not yet . I'm not ready to hang up my pedal bike and my hike a bike DH sled demo 8 .

Should get a RD MTB get together ride ?

Sorry a little LAM since we are talking MTB.

I raced three times ever on an MTB. I would have won all three races but I broke my bars and finished 20 miles with half of my handlebars missing (early carbon technology). I was about 16 years old and raced the Expert class (One below pro) since I was a Cat 1 on the road. I was the youngest in the class. MTB was absolutely huge in the late 80s and early 90s; the era of Tomac and Tinker. There were about 125 in my category for each of these races which were some of the most premier at the time. Maybe should have stuck with it. :D

I was actually given a Tracker mountain bike to race on. Same Tracker that makes skateboard trucks. They lent me a bike to race on the few times I raced.

I want to get another MTB but not E bike. I have a couple of gravel bikes but they are not quite radical enough for some of the terrain around here.

Doing a big gravel ride this weekend in the middle of NV with my wife this weekend!

Awesome! in your 50s on a Megatower! I had a SB130 and sold it to buy the Levo, Im going to piece together an (Aluminum) DH bike or another long travel trail bike most likely here pretty soon. I ride most of those trails too, I just did strawberry peak to red box last Sunday on my hard tail w/Dropper it was great! Id be down for a winter meet up somewhere as well!

@beaverretriever they are bringing the US Cup race back to Snow Summit this summer and they have been adding some fun new DH trails for it too! I rode a gravel bike with front suspension and it was amazing!

How did the gravel ride go? Which ride was it. Maybe the electric bike to consider is the yamaha road style for gravel riding...

27.5 fatty, 2.8. I rode a 27.5 for the first time last month in Idaho and really liked it. I have a 29 trek fuel ex. I think for the weight of the ebike it might be a good fit. I thought the brakes were bad on the ones we rented in ID as it didn’t skid much, but the 27.5 fatty is just that hard to break loose compared to a 29 2.3

Mine came with 4 piston code brakes and they are decent but I think I might put some Magura MT5's again! Make sure you have biggest brakes you can afford, it helps so much with arm pump. I also think a fast rolling (small tread) tire is going to be a thing of the past as when things get steep you need the big knobs to get the job done. You might be able to squeeze the 29 front wheel on it too. ;)
