Nice write up.

The term Ive seen used for this condition is called "non uniform pad imprinting."

Often mistaken for a " warped rotor".

UD

My dealership turned rotors on an Aamco machine for decades. Then suspensions became more sensitive and brake shudder became more prevalent. We began turning rotors on the car, this worked pretty well for the most part. By the time the early-mid 90's came along we started to just put on new rotors. Faster, cleaner, and cost effective since labor rates had gone through the roof by then.
Had a huge issue when pads went from asbestos materials to organic types.....the pad adhesion to the rotors was horrific. Warranty claims to BMW for pads and rotors were astronomical.

I was there when it happened, LOL. I bought some silicon rings from a place called Qalo. I religiously wear them when in the desert or working on stuff....including electrical. I showed him mine and I think the next day he was ordering one :D :D

Ironically Dedmiston was there and it happened to him a year earlier!

Weird fun fact - If you have a 99-up Silverado 1500 / 2500 / 3500, they don't ever need brakes.....
Seriously. I've owned and sold 3 of them now, with over 150k on same pads and rotors. The truck I have now is at 134k...guy I bought it from gave me a box full of new delco pads. Said he bought them cause he figured it had to be time, but his mechanic checked them and said they had at least 70 percent left. My old Tahoe was the same way also. It amazes me, cause we have newer F150s at work and they eat a set of rotors every 30k

I bought an 02 suburban brand new, drove it home and hooked up the boat and towed it from Phoenix to Laughlin. The truck had 40 miles on it when I towed with it for the first time so when I say I towed from day 1, I really mean it. After 90,000 miles I figured the brakes had to be done, especially since I was towing a 29 foot boat. Took it in and they said brakes were at 80%. I said ok, 80% used up so I will need them soon. The guy stops me and says no sir, you have at least 80% left on them. I about fell over. Sold that thing with 153,000 miles and never touched the brakes. Amazing.

I'm not a huge fan of buying car parts online because of something doesn't fit or is DOA I need to be able to run to store and get a replacement. One of a few things I won't buy online.

That said I buy a ton on Amazon and their customer service is great. They would have taken a return IMO. Unless we just get special treatment since we buy so much.

I've had great luck with Amazon.
You can create a garage with your cars, then it will automatically tell you if a part fits or not.
Looking at the reviews usually reveals if it will fit a particular car as well.

Free Prime shipping, and free returns if it's not the right part, works for me.
I usually plan my maintenance in advance, though.
And I've never had an incorrect part show up. ...yet LOL :D

I don't think it would be any different than ordering from Rock Auto as far as order accuracy goes.
But this is just my experience, YMMV :thumbsup

Yea about 50% of the time Amazon is cheaper than Rock Auto.
