New boats - Are people still buying new boats?

Seems like a dumb question since builders are still around - right? Just thinking out loud here - last time I bought a boat and was actually boating was 2011 so it's been a few years. We've been thinking of jumping back in, prices are up there for used boats. Got me thinking about the cost of new boats? What is the basic price now for say a 24 footer, guessing close to or over 100k? How many boats are manufactures like Eliminator making these days? Has the pontoon trend hurt the older manufacturers?

Cobra seems to be delivering. These 2 were being picked up yesterday. Really good looking floats.

What are you after? V-bottoms are mostly dead. I think the big E mothballed all the Eagle molds, they do Daytonas and Speedsters only.

Most others seem to all be deck boat crazy.

You could maybe look at Tahiti if you want a v bottom at good quality for less moolah.

The wealthy will always be buying new everything! Hence the high end car, boat, home, etc,etc,ect will never go away. Then you have the other group that cant so they think they cant live without it and buy on 8,10,12 year loans and buy the car, boat, SxS etc.....and actually pay twice on the original price. So no, probably not going away any time soon.

Pontoons are slow at the moment and a few big companies like Mastercraft are in trouble. Expect to see some attractive sales incentives this fall and winter at boat shows.

Economy seems to be slowing. I started a major remodel on my mom's house two months ago and guys are hungry for work. The carpenter that is helping me had jobs cancel due to lack of funds and was able to get to me right away. The windows I ordered were supposed to be seven weeks. They were built and installed in less than three. Stucco guy was able to start instantly as well.

The high end boat builders probably won't have issues, but the mid to low tier builder will probably continue to slow IMO.

You might be able to get an Advantage 25 Citation with stock power for around 100k. Solid boat

Over a 100k for sure.
Like mentioned Tahiti is doing some v bottoms, and Shockwave is always a sure bet.
Essex would be another and all 3 are in so cal.
Eliminator tossed most of the v bottoms, a guy determined ($$) Could probably convince Jake to build a 230.
I’ve been begging him to do one for the showroom.
Offered to shoot one with whatever colors we have on the shelf and no invoice from me till it’s rolling out the door.
No time, and anything done would be getting in the way of current builds.

I have seen it up close many times on the Strip. If I was in the market I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. At 65k it's a great deal.

As of beginning of year MTI has a 2 year wait list. Buddy that is a dealer for cigarette said he personally (not total, just him) has 14 boats on order. Most center consoles but 4 42X’s as well.

People are still buying. But I’d agree. It’s starting to slow. You talk to anyone in the biz they’ll tell you they see it. Is it just the typical slow down of an election year or the real deal coming? Time will tell.

Boats and motorhomes, high end units are still selling, but no way I'd buy new now when you can buy them for half of its new price after a few years. Total waste of money buying new, unless you're a baller to show off your rigs to your friends every five or so years,lol.
My current boat is 34 yrs old, solid as a rock, still sporting the original vinyl seats and the inside upholstery, no rips. The vinyl is thick, engines are MPI 6.2's with less than 400hrs, Bravo X drives, offshore controls. Original gel, that could use a little TLC to bring the shine back for less than $1000 CDN. The Mirage 257 with single BBC sold for 75K on its trailer in 1990.
Last boat I bought new in 1976 was my Spectra 20 daycruiser that I owned for 26yrs.The 1978 19 Spectra and 1972 24 Spectra V-drive was bought used for low price and refurbished by me.

This! I am always shopping. But not boats. It would be nice. But I asked what it would cost to build my boat new and $175K is a lot of money for something I use a few times a year.

New builds are very expensive. Labor isn’t cheap materials aren’t cheap. It’s no longer your 350 small block Chevy etc. I contacted Nordic before I bought mine used inquiring about building new they wanted 365k for a 29 deck with 400s. When I asked if that was the best they could do that’s where the conversation ended so they must be plenty busy. The used market will stay high due to new builds being a fortune. But also used is gonna be harder to unload as they get older finance companies won’t finance etc. prices are coming down.
