We are going to see how it lasts. It may have not been the best decision I've made but I did make a Bravo 1 last for 14 years behind 750 horsepower!

Not much of an update but they're starting to lay up the mold. My excitement is continuing to build for sure!

I am getting a little concerned about the swim step being super slippery. I looked into many different options but haven't landed on anything yet. I thought about using a synthetic teak it may be a very different but exciting option. What are your thoughts? Has anyone ever used synthetic teak in the heat?

e3ubu3e7.jpg

Is Rusty doing the motor? Or is he sending it out? If he's sending it then to who?

No experience on the synthetic teak, but will it match anything else in the boat?

Hey Bob, Just helping the customer out with their own power currently. Should be back on track shortly & get this 28' on the water. You know how it is building your dream! ;). Hope to see you at Desert Storm this year, hopefully my schedule in the Midwest will allow. With all of the activity, 2014 has been an exhausting year so far, but not a bad thing & a great sign for the future!

I know full well how a build project can get side tracked or slowed down :)
We will be at DS this year for sure - hope to see you there!!!
Congrats on the busy year - its what everybody wants... To keep busy and build business.

Can't wait to see what's next for this boat...

No updates unfortunately. This has been a long and exhausting experience to be honest. I wish I had more for you but there has been little to no work being done. The bulkheads and tanks haven't even been glassed in yet.

I wish we were going to make desert storm as planned but seeing as we are already almost a week into April and the boat still hasn't been pulled from the mold I won't be holding my breath. I am going to be canceling my registration and miss yet another year.

Yes RiverDave Rusty is supposed to be building the motor. I have yet to see anything being done. From what I understand, the block is at the machine shop still. Hoping to make some progress but soon.

Hanging I'm there.

I was really excited to post this build thread and the progress but it hasn't gone as planned so this thread is pretty much point less.

Don't loose your enthusiasm - custom projects take time and have hurdles that need be overcome all the time. Sometimes the issues are yours other times it the subs you use.

If you wanted a Colbolt you could have walked into the dealer and financed it - your going to end up with a one off custom boat. That takes time sometimes.

Sirbob, thanks for the enthusiasm. I have built quite a few projects in the past and I know how it goes. I also used to build custom home for a living and for sure know how subs can go.

This may be a beautiful boat at the end of the day however, I know what goes into projects and I'd they aren't being worked on they don't progress. There has been many hiccups and miscommunications but at the end of the day progress would hopefully keep my interest, we will see what the future holds.

I would be pissed! Close to 4 months and all you have is a empty hull? Is the shop a government contractor?

If you knew the whole story you would really be pissed. I am not going to say anything bad other than getting VERY frustrated!

Exciting news today, Rusty pulled the deck today. I am hoping to get a few more pictures when it gets flipped but here are a few teasers.

That's awesome. I hope these guys step it up and get this thing on the water asap.
The hull design is nice looking, but there is no information regarding performance that I could find anywhere. I think they are swinging for the fence on this
one and I hope it goes out of the park!

There is performance info out there as this is the Barracuda Deckboat(now the Ultra 28).

There isn't too much info either way. I did talk with a guy who has an older Barracuda and they absolutely love theirs. They say it preforms great, but you never know the depth of their judgement. I am a little nervous about that but I am taking a chance.

I am sure it will be a great boat at the end of the day, just can't wait to see it on the water...

I watched (read about) the baracuda build and never saw performance numbers out of the 625 boat...or did they switch to a 525. I don't remember.
Anyways, I hope this thing gets on top and hauls serious ass with the power going in it.

We have the first Barracuda and love it. Ours is powered by an Ilmor 625 and Teague Platinum drive...runs about 80mph empty. Jason has the other Barracuda powered by an Ilmor 710...runs about 90mph or so. I believe ours were laid up slightly on the heavier side . Mine is solid and rides like a Cadillac but sounds like Rusty might be able to squeeze some more speed out of the hulls with a lighter lay up. Mine carries my beer and keeps it cold which is all I care about... Rusty's a good guy and did the rigging on my boat which was top notch. Feel free to contact me with any questions...

The quad rotor should get triple digits easy.

Thanks for the response punchy, great to hear it's a solid boat.

I studied your boat quite a bit before I moved forward. I had a ton of reservations but after talking with Jason he talked me into it.

Rusty is a great guy and from what I have seen his rigging is top notch. I have worked closely with Rusty for quite some time. He has been a very honest, knowledgeable, and super patient. We have had our hiccups but we will get this thing moving forward and in the water soon enough.

I am super bummed that I am missing desert storm but I will be out there in spirit. If our boat doesn't sell by then I will be out on that if not then I guess there is next year...

Ok, so I was able to round up some pics of the exterior, interior and rigging....might help you make some decision during the rest of the build. You'll notice in some of the earlier pics the windshield and hatch plexiglass hardware is black...I later changed it to stainless steel which you'll see in the newer pics.

Front Stereo remote:

I would recommend installing one of these in the front of the boat and one at the back near the swimstep. The button shown is for the foot shower:

These last ones show you how high the boat sits out of the water in the rear. I would reccomend getting longer aqua steps if there's enough room for them under the step:

Thanks for posting your pictures punchy, it helps me and I am sure everyone following tremendously.

Great talking with you yesterday as well, I appreciate your insight and experience with the boat. You managed to get me super pumped up again.

Then I got pumped up from Rusty sending me some progress pics as well. I love to see things moving along again.

Well I got some pictures sent to me, a very small update :) but it's something. I'm hoping to find out more when I get out there tomorrow! Most of the outside was sprayed white and will get color after we cap the bow and stern.

I also got another surprise, Rusty started working on the hatch modifications, it's a little off from my original idea but we are going to make some changes before it's laid up.

I asked Rusty to put a recessed walk through in the middle of the hatch so it's easier to walk through without slipping. I am then going to put the same non skid padding in the insert.

Super exciting news today, Rusty pulled the bottom! Super excited to see this build really starting to take shape and in good timing, just sold our Nordic as well.

He is going to be working on putting the motor back together and mating the two halves together, then off to taping.

Stay tuned, things are picking up!

I like the lines of the boat. The only thing i don't like is climbing over the engine hatch to get back in the boat.

I hear ya, I majorly struggled with that to. It was a sacrifice, for the best of both worlds. I love the design of the hatch with the acrylic and fiberglass. And you still get the convenience of a deck in the front.

Progress is starting to pick up and just in time. Summer is pretty much here and we have officially sold the Nordic, so all good on that end.

Rusty has the top and bottom being laminated and starting to fill the side vents and cap the front and rear. I am hoping to layout the graphics in the next few weeks. He is also getting the bulkheads sized down and inserted.

He also has the plug for the walkway on the hatch almost done and ready to lay up the hatch. I am super excited to see that take shape as well.

Rusty is also working on dry fitting the motor and getting ready to spray the block and heads. I am leaning towards a blue close to the Mercury racing blue. Then possibly carbon fiber valve covers and black breaded lines.

Getting super excited to see the motor back together and get her on the dyno soon. Hoping to see some good numbers out of the quad rotor and the new build.

Stand by as things take shape!

Long time no post, making some headway though. Went out and visited the building over the weekend and was happy to see progress :)

I went out to layout the graphics which I have to admit are going to be awesome. They finished the capping and molding in the side vents they came out amazing IMHO. The lines are still rough in the pictures, we ran out of time but Tracy is making a template and will be cleaning everything up.

Once they have the final blocking on the vents and caps it's time to layout the graphics for real and get some color on the hull, can't wait!
