Ok I got a speeding ticket in Nevada.

How does traffic school work? How does one contest a Nevada ticket? How do “points” work in Nevada?

Hire one of the ticket agencies that negotiate the tickets down to parking or minor issue. I think they are around 75-125.00 and they negotiate it for you. Also you could go to the court system website and find your ticket and at times they already have lowered the charge and cost if you pay by a certain date prior to due date, if not best bet is to hire an agency and forget about it. (Of course if it is a gross violation all bets are off). NHP is harder to deal with do not try fighting them they live to go to court, metro, northtown and henderson are more forgiving.

Thank you.

This was NHP, written for 75 in a 65 through Mesquite. Ticket is only $135.

There were three patrol cars out pulling people over in the Laughlin area last Thursday night around 10pm. I didn’t get pulled over cuz they already were writing tickets went I went through. I’m crossing to AZ side in needles for the next few months

I’m in Vegas now and noticed all the “Ticket Fix”offices. I asked my mom about them and she used them when she got a ticket with 4 infractions. Fine would have been $1600, it ended up costing her $200 to the Ticket fix.
Apparently they go to court for you and plead it down. My mom’s moving violation got pled down to a parking violation.

I was going over 90 😂
My last one was 36 over. 106 MPH on I-40...
😎
Criminal speeding. Mandatory court in Barstow.

$950, no traffic school allowed. 1 week suspension in CA only (I’m AZ licensed so no matter), cop was cool, judge handed me the minimums.
But when you’re as old as me nothing really happens. Insurance didn’t even blink.

But I used to get NHP tickets on Hwy 50 all the time.
When I put radar in all my cars I actually slowed down because the damned things were always going off.

I would not worry about the 135, I just don't like the points and the possible insurance effects. Still worth hiring a firm to deal with it, taking it down to a parking or minor violation wont effect insurance at all. Just my opinion. Hope it works out for you.

Agreed. My only real concern was the insurance. I don’t know how the points work, if they report to my home state, etc.

If it is a few bucks for online traffic school to make it just “go away” that is worth it to me.

I was driving to the airport in Vegas and forgot my radar detector. It is pretty accurate, and helpful when going through the Indian Nation.

They do report to your home state, that is one of the big concerns. I am not sure if NHP makes you go to the city you received the ticket in tough for traffic school.

If the ticket is for 75 in a 65 that’s like what?
2 points?
Unless you’re a serial ticket getter or 25 years old it’s nothing.

No, I want to understand my options.

Last time I got some tickets, and they were good ones, I showed up early and talked to the persecutors. I called well in advance and made an appointment. So, I was given a ticket for driving on revoked but had taken care of that and had a valid license before the court date. That ticket was dismissed.

The other ticket was for going 82 in a 55. A bit more to that story, but the important take away was that because of that ticket my license was automatically suspended for 30 days. The prosecutor could not dismiss that one but he did lower the penalty so my license did not get suspended. Still paid the same fine for the stupidity.

I have seen in court where people would plead guilty or no contest, pay the full fine, and then take some time of probation to keep it off their record to save insurance rates. Point is, talk to the prosecutors, unless you have more money than time, then hire one of those lawyers you see on the billboards near the courthouse and be done with it.

Thank you.

This is only a $135 fine so I’m leaning towards not hiring any of the “fix it” firms. I can do all that myself anyway.

IN LAS VEGAS, I don't know about any other NV jurisdictions, if you go to court yourself and contest the ticket (go to the arrangement and say I want a trial) they will USUALLY have the prosecutor make a deal with you for a parking infraction which includes paying a parking ticket type fine and no points. There was an article a few weeks ago in the paper for people not being charged for speeding and more serious offenses and having their tickets reduced to parking tickets. Basically, the volume of tickets makes the idea of a trial for each case not possible for the court system.

I got a changing lanes ticket couple years ago in town and I was pissed so I went to court and said I wanna trial. At court, the judge says "If you wanna trial, go meet with the prosecutor in the hallway" everyone else that wants to plead guilty, wait to be called. That's a clue. LOL I go in the hallway and the prosecutor says "improper parking, $75. I was still pissed but not wanting to waste any more of my life on this ticket, I said.....AIGHT.

I suspect all the ticket fixers in town that get your ticket fixed for a nominal fee by using this system. I heard the ticket fixers don't even go to court instead they just call it in and get you ticket knocked down to a parking infraction. I don't have evidence of this however.

Remember in Las Vegas, there are THREE court systems. Municipal Court for CITY of Las Vegas, Justice Court for Clark County and 8th District Court for all the BAD PEOPLE. LOL

This info not to be construed as legal advice. Good luck. Yore welcome.

I’ve made the “foyer deal” before as well.
Specifically on my DWI many years ago.
I had like 3 charges from that arrest including reckless and causing an accident (those were unsubstantiated)
Anyway, the prosecutor had a desk in the hall before court and was cutting up charges and deals before hand. As soon as I told him I wasn’t going to cop to the extras he offered the basic minimums for the DWI which I plead.

But I gotta be honest here.
I’m not one to complicate my life these days.

For a 10 over ticket it’s ridiculous (to me) to even think about adding more “complications” like lawyers, deals, billboard solutions, etc.
Online traffic school? Yeah, maybe.
But you can go online, pay the damned little ticket, and be done with all this by noon.
C’mon man.

I have had Pre Paid Legal since the late 90's, when I had a hot rod car. It's changed names to Legal Shield now, but for $17/mo I get access to a local attorney that handles this stuff for me when it comes up, at no charge. Last speeding ticket was 49 in a 35 if memory serves. Reduced to a parking ticket, no points, no driving school and the fine was around $150.

Locally, the firm that does this is Dempsey Roberts & Smith. Might be worth a call.

No idea how nv works reporting to utah. The point system is wildly different here vs ca so i have no idea how a ticket effects insurance. Couple years back Jen got a speeding ticket here visiting family and there was no traffic school so it showed in CA and effected the insurance rate.

CA all standard ticketes effect you the same out here they seem to range in severity so i wonder if all ticketes effect insurance differently? @Gramps any input?

I haven't gotten a ticket in many years but if I were to get one now, I'd just pay it. I figure that the thousands of times I've gotten away with speeding, when I do get caught I should just man up and pay the fine.

Agreed.

For the price I’m fine with just paying it and paying for the online traffic school that I can zip through while tormenting people here about UTVs they don’t own.

The traffic school pice was just not clear to me with a cursory review. If it does not “erase” the ticket I won’t waste the time.

That’s like $500 here in CA lol
I got a ticket coming into havasu from Parker years back. I think i was 10-15 over.

My wife always gives me shit for getting out of or beating tickets in court when she never has luck. So i get the ticket and AZ passed a law that within certain areas it's not a speeding ticket it is just a fine for wasting gas...haha

My wife was pissed i think it was like $75 and has nothing to do with driving record.:D

Jen drives fast so we are pretty even on tickets over the years but she has absolutely ended up with more on her record. I' fight all of them or get lucky.

She got a ticket coming home from the river by Coachella on her birthday for 7 over and the chp guy wouldn't give her a break...lol 🤣

Ok I got a speeding ticket in Nevada.

How does traffic school work? How does one contest a Nevada ticket? How do “points” work in Nevada?
I didn't read the thread, but as long as it's not federal take it to Craig P Kenney. He handles tickets in case you need to use his services later. I am a nevada resident though, but any of my tickets I take to him pay a fee and zero points.

Once got a speeding ticket just north of Searchlight. A CS ticket for doing 72 in 65 on Hwy 95. When I called the Searchlight Court to check on Traffic School etc. The lady looked it up and told me it had been written up as a Parking Violation. She said there was no Traffic School for Parking tickets. So, Searchlight got my $$, but no points against me on my driving record! Searchlight NV, the home of friendly speeding ticktets.

But they write an absolute ass load of those tickets, don't mess around in Boulder City or Searchlight. Searchlight uses a ton of unmarked cars.

CA just passed a law that says you can go to traffic school but now the ticket (or the points, I don’t remember which) will remain on your record rather than being completely expunged by traffic school. So I guess your insurance will now see a record of all the tickets you may have accumulated but were previously wiping with traffic school.

Seems like a dick move to me. If someone is willing to sit in traffic school and not commit suicide by boredom, I don’t see why you can’t completely wipe it off your record. Otherwise what’s the point of traffic school?

This was 10pm on a Sunday evening, almost no other cars. I was headed to LV to catch a red eye flight to the east coast. I'd already passed thru Searchlight, doing an honest 25mph. I was well north of town gradually increasing speed. You could see the 75 mph sign up ahead. But, I hadn't quite reached it. He lit me up and wrote me up. CS for sure.

No idea............the last ticket I got was around......I can't remember. If I ever got one it had to be in the early 1970's. I did get pulled over once here in Utah on SR-18 for 80 in a 55....the cop knew I am FD and let me go!

All the tickets Deb and I got on Hwy 50 were the same way.
Austin was the worst, together we got 5 tickets between us in one month there. Lol
(I got 3 in one trip, she got 2)
No points, just cutting a bunch of $50 checks more or less.

If you don't live there, here is how it works.

Your drive back home and forget about it, pay the fine, get on with your life.

I believe it, any time you pass through a town that steps down MPH every ⅛th of a mile pay attention.

I had a coworker (RIP) that lived in Searchlight. When metro used to park a dummy police car to get people to slow down, one of the residents used to put a cup of coffee and a pack of hostess donuts on the roof of it when it was parked by that abandoned building.

Boulder City used to do the same thing when entering town they would park a car in the median of the 95 with a dummy inside of it. You would get comfortable with the dummy car until it was an actual cop.

Last time I got a ticket in Mesquite as a young man, the NHP wrote me for "waste of a natural resource". Was like $30. The cop was way cool and we were young punks back then growing up in vegas and headed out to St George to bang the mormon girls.

I feel old now. lol

Highway patrol always wrote me a ticket, they would lower the speed, but always got a ticket. (I deserved all of them). Metro has never given me a ticket, even when I was a young punk.
