Highway patrol always wrote me a ticket, they would lower the speed, but always got a ticket. (I deserved all of them). Metro has never given me a ticket, even when I was a young punk.
2014, this time of year, not too long after Michael Brown and the pants up don't loot movement in Fergeson, MO, I get pulled over. Now this is a little town you come into on a steep downgrade in a turn and the speed limit goes from 55 to 25 right before you are at the bottom of the hill. Town has one cop, part time, and camps out at the bottom of the hill except for the time of day when the local bakery disposes of the unsold doughnuts.
Lights come on, cop approaches car and asks for license and insurance info. I give it to him and then he asks me if I knew why he pulled me over. Without skipping a beat, I reply "because I am black". I am not, far from it. Cop looks up from my license at my face, looks back down at the license and then back up at me and tells me to stay right there.
Cop comes back, gives me back my info and tells me to slow down. I am not sure if he was going to write me a ticket that night, but if he was going to, I know what got me out of it.
