Is there anywhere to camp on the river near the needles area besides needles marina? I thought there was a route 66 campground or maybe river dave had a buddy with a campground up that way.

Always wondered...is there any law against dropping an anchor (close to shore and out of the way) and overnighting it on the boat? Down south of Parker, we leave boats in the water overnight in front of our park...

I suppose to be proper legal one would need an anchor light...but is there any other reason?

Always boat in camp in september usually three dunes. Pretty fun. the nights get nice. End of september. Also like needles marina. Grew up camping blackmeadow in july and august as a kid, now that was brutal!

How are the bugs down there at 3dunes in in the evening? That seems to be whats keeping my brother in law from wanting to try it.

Was at the same beach 2 days in a row, above pirates and below Jack Smith a few years ago. Arrived early around 8am. We were in the Havasu Wildlife Preserve, and the ranger came down Sunday, hand on his piece, and accused me, my wife, and my 3 kids under 7 years old of “camping” since he saw us on the same beach the day before. Prick attitude. So, I’d say a strong no on overnights in the preserve.

Bugs haven’t been a problem. Have to watch out for the big raccoons that do sneak attacks!

There is a couple who stay on the beach just outside/down river from Moabi Channel. Have seen thme the last couple of years and they have never been hassled and do not pay.

What was the outcome of this? And where are the signs that say you cannot if you were?
Just East of Jack Smith on the CA side people are out camping all the time, there was probably 6-7 toy haulers and 10-12 tents when i went by at 5 today on the tracks.

BLM California side camping is ok. I see all kinds of camping on the peninsulas. Above the preserve sign seems ok on the AZ Side too. I was below the sign on the AZ side. Guy left, but was a dick. I didn’t mention I was taking a nap at the time the guy approached a mom and 3 kids ready to draw. I get being cautious, but damn! It’s been great the last 6 years or so, but shit like that sticks in your mind.

The peninsulas are park moabi and they have a decent waiting list to get in there. Awesome campground out up near the top. Not much up there its like the washes in glamis the farther up you go the fewer people you see

Camping on the river is awesome if ya like getting up early. Gets hot quick but some of my best memories are camping on the river. Hot as balls. Waking up sore and hungover. Reaching into a luke warm ice chest and grabbing a rocky mountain rehab light to get the background level closer to where it belongs and then jumping on the boat for some morning glass.
