So my wifes parents neighbor has a 52 chevy pickup in his driveway he has been working on for awhile now. He has done quite a bit. From what i know it has a 4.8 Ls swap done. It has New suspension and on bags, rearend, brakes all around, wheels and few other things. The body is in good shape just a little rust on floor pans and it needs some body work and paint still. Needs new glass and the interior is like halfway done some new pieces in there. The bed needs new wood and some other trim pieces. Anyhow he finally after me harrasing him for a long time told me to make him a offer.

I honestly dont have a clue what to offer and wish i had a pic but dont. I am gonna go drive it this weekend but would like some help with a possible number to throw out. Thanks!

I would need to see a picture of the truck, suspension, engine compartment,etc...

Paint and body is going to cost you 10k and figure another 5k for misc. at a minimum and when all is said and done I would say the tuck could be worth 30k.

Thanks man. I was actually second thinking of just having it cleared and keeping the brown patina. Body work looks to be not to bad. I know i would need to put AC in it as well cause no way in hell wife is gonna sweat. I was thinking of throwing out like 12k i just dont want to insult him as he refuses to give me a number and tells me to make the offer lol.

$12k seems too high, but it's impossible to say without pics and more detail. We just had a, near finished, running and driving, painted, mustang IFS, four link, 350/th350, '51 Chevy p/u in the shop and there is no way I would have given $12k for that thing. It was a garage/driveway build and the owner wants to put right all of the problems that occurred along the way. Make sure you know what you are looking at or hire someone to look at it for you. When you talk about new suspension and bags along with a driveline change I would want to know that everything was swapped correctly, welded correctly and that truck won't crab down the highway or break a critical component.

Is it a driver?

Offer him 10k and see what happens.

Yea full driver. Says it rides, drives and handles very well . I was hoping for a bigger motor like a 6.0l but i guess worse case could work with the 4.8 and get a little more out of it. Not looking to win races but have a little balls

4.8's are cheap and plentiful and run pretty good

Thanks and very good points. The guy knows his stuff and am pretty confident its all done right. I am not clueless when it comes to mechanics stuff and shotty shit and will definitely be under the truck after i take it for a drive.

These trucks are real hot right now been looking for a 47-53 five window for a while. Most guys are using a s10 frame and adding power and drive train and swapping power over not really that hard at all. Seems that the prices are all over the map on these I have seen unfinished projects with 350 combo painted go for 7500.00 then some semi restored trucks are in the 14-18K numbers so I suppose its really worth what you want to pay for it.

I spoke to the guy in whittier and he is pretty straight forward buys these and resells them at a mark up, I did not go see them as I was looking for a five window which he sold. He does have a few that drive but said most have rust issues. If you get the truck or at least pics post them up, wife wants me to find one for her and turn it into the one below.

God, I missed out on one of these several years ago at an auction. It was like a ton and a half rig with a dump bed. Original paint and chrome, that still had some shine.. went for like,8 hundies . While I was eating lunch. Fuck me!!:eek

Don't make him an offer. Let him throw you a price and make him justify the price he's asking. He may come at you with a price of $10-12K and you can cut him down from there, he may also come at you with a price of $20K and you'll insult him if you come back with a realistic price.

Other than the truck lying on the ground I would need to see much more to be at 10-12k.

If he has some 20" billet wheels in the garage and that 4.8 is in a powdercoated chassis with full air ride with accuair air management and fresh rearend it could be a steal at that price.

Hard to tell without more info..go snap a bunch of pics and see if he will list all the parts.

I just got my 56 running and I know what I have in it doing most of the work myself. I would agree with Cole on this and not go over more then 10g's without some justification. just my .0002$

Looks clean and straight they all seem to get the rust on floor boards and back corners of the cab which they sell patch pieces for if needed. As for making an offer I agree with asking him to toss a number out, I have seen a few in this condition and if not completed needing a bed and interior and other items I would feel safe anywhere between 5-8K if its a driver. Again if the bag system is not set up right it can sometimes be a pain and allot to redo so there is allot to consider.

If you do get it and plan to keep the patina search the web on tricks to patina further before clearing if you are looking for the aged look I have seen a few at shows that guys have aged and done right it was hard to tell but either way good luck and be prepared for him to toss you a high number as some of the ones on the net now are through the roof. I would search craigslist or something like that to get the feel of pricing before you walk in there and then you would have some sort of idea of where to go from there.

Good Luck
