So now that I found the leak coming from the lower part of the transom assembly looks like I will need to pull the assembly and hopefully just replace seals. I've inspected the bellows can't see any damage to them.

Who would you guys recommend to pull the transom assembly?

And does the motor need to come out for that?

Yes motor needs to be pulled for a $20-30 seal. Kris at Flat Tops is a straight shooter, he did all the maintenance on the Hallett.

You can run a bead of silicone around it as a temp fix so you can still finish the season out.

I was able to reach five of the six but trans assembly bolts tightened them up and got the leak to slow down to one to two drips per second. Just can't get it to stop so looks like I'm going to have to pull the whole transom assembly and replace the seal

Let it dry out for a few days a tighten again incase the transom is swollen some. Just not sure if Lavey’s use wood.

Update

Came back out to Bullhead this weekend to work on solving the leak. Retightened all the bolts the bottom ones were a tad loose. Still not much improvement slowed the leak a little but definitely needs the assembly gasket replaced.

Looking for a reputable shop to perform the work over this fall either in SoCal or Havasu. Don't think there's anybody worthwhile up here in Bullhead.

Pretty disappointed not the kind of bullshit issues we should be dealing with when buying this caliber of boat.
Damn, was hoping for the best.

Kris from Flat Tops in Havi can handle this.

You could ask Kenny at Spring family motorsports. Not that far of a drive.

Hi there. Not sure what type of gimbal housing you have or where you are located but Savage in Havasu and Charlie at Octane (Phoenix area) could easily handle. Something to consider- often times what appears to be a leaking transom assembly seal can in fact be the seal at the top inside of gimbal housing, especially if it’s an older mercruiser gimbal. This would be the seal that allows the gimbal to rotate as you turn. The seal is about 10 dollars and is very hard to get to, and yes everything has to come off. If the gimbal housing is older you may consider just replacing the entire assembly. Also, the newer Merc gimbals are a little stronger than the originals. Had it done a few years back. We’ll worth the peace of mind. Best of luck!

I ran some loctite pl marine adhesive around the exterior stern side (on the seam of the gimbal housing to exterior stern). If I had it to do over, I’d put tape on either side for a nicer bead. But I also don’t have leaks When I put it on. I put this on for peace of mind after installing it to merc specs.

i Blocked off the water pickup tube and use a thru hull pickup for my LS to B3 setup.

Ended up taking the boat to Chris at Prestige Marine. After water testing it they confirmed the transom assembly was leaking(which i already knew) but also found the starboard trim tab was leaking as well. Had to pull the engine and the outdrive assembly to properly repair. They removed everything off the transom and resealed.

One of the things they noticed when taking out the outdrive is there was a ton of sand built up in there. Consensus is the boat possibly hit a shallow sandbar at speed with the trim tab down. This may have knocked everything loose and caused the leaks.

While the boat was in the shop at prestige I had them do a full service on the 600 SCI including plugs and wires. They found several pulleys in need of some attention so I had them all replaced too. Also sent the boat out to fiberglass and had them fix all the Knicks on the bottom of the boat along with resurfacing the keel.

When I picked the boat up @DWC was kind enough to meet me down at Windsor and perform a water test. We did a quick Buzz around the island and through the channel. No water intrusion was noticed in the bilge area after 20 to 30 minutes on the water. Thank you again Don much appreciated!

All in all service was very good at Prestige and Chris kept me in the loop the whole way. Although it was a pricey repair it feels really great to now have a boat that floats instead of sinks slowly. LOL
Can't wait to get out on the water and start using the boat for what it was purchased for. Next trip out will probably be February for the fireworks show.

🍻 here's to finally being a boat owner again after a 10-year hiatus. Look forward to seeing everybody out on the water again.
