My Dad purchased a new Toon last year and It seems to have something wrong with the setup. It's a 21 footer, and I know it was a new model. The dealership doesn't seem to know much about the setup etc. I have driven it the most and I don't know much about them but it seems to really struggle to get up on plane and get speed. To me it doesn't feel like it ever really gets fully planed out. Here are pics of the setup any help would be appreciated. The pics of the gauges is the absolute most I could get out of it with 3 adults one child on board.

Toons don't really "get on plane".

At least mine doesn't, that's for Damm sure.

I just play with the trim till it Feels right. That's about all I can do.

My River neighbor buddy just bought a used Bennington with a 115. He told me his 14' fishing boat with the 25hp outboard is faster. I didn't go out on it to see though.

I know what you mean, I just fell like it should go 30mph or so.

After playing with props and engine height, the most I've gotten out of my 28ft is 32mph, thats with a 150 2 stroke.
It looks like you're getting enough RPM's out of it, maybe go up a prop size and see what it does.

Yeah no. That's not gonna happen.

Mine barely does 30 with a 150 V6 2 smoke!

Empty with no passengers. And yeah, I'm running a 4 blade as well.

I'd put a 3 blade on it, same pitch. If it seems to turn too much RPM then have a little cup put into the prop.

I started out with a 3 blade and got better performance (all around) with a 4 blade.

All a toon does is plow water. The 4 blade give you more "push" (less slip).

Not like the words "performance" and "toon" should actually be used together in the first place! 😜

Yeah, seems to me you need 500hp+(aka twins)to get a toon up out of the water at all. Don't even think a single 400r will do it in most cases.

I guess I just expected more than 19mph, on "plane" was the wrong way to describe it.

I've had just the opposite experience, but all boats and props are different. But ya, you're only gonna get so much out of a set up like that.

Your boating at 5000’ + too I assume? I would not expect much more than your getting. Get Dan to put a 300 on that bitch!

first off, I would see where the slip numbers are,... looks to me like the motor is too high, but just looking at the pics, so who knows???... you might be slipping the prop too much mid and top end...and the 4 blade might be biting too much trying to get on plane.... get the gear size and run the numbers on the prop slip calculator... not every boat works best with a 4 blade,... but I always like to try them to see... sometimes a 3
blade will bite enough to get you going , but use less HP to turn @ mid and top end...

assuming it's a 2.07.....

heres the best it would do if zero slip...

12p..... 2.07 gear ... max rpm 6300....zero slip....35 mph

here's where you are at....

12p... 2.07 gear...rpm 5700 .. 30 slip....

30 slip seems high, and only turning 5700 leaves 600 more rpm...

i would look to see where you are at @ 4000 rpm.... engine height, could be a factor..... and at speed the prop is loosing bite as the toons get out of the water more... seems to me that from what i've read the toon should run 20 mph at cruise..

sooooo...

@ 4000 rpms, 10% slip you'd be@ 20mph... thats with a 12p prop,... a 14p would get you to 23 @4000 and 29 mph @ 5000

looks like there is a lot of room to improve...

I just bought a 24' Bentley Tritoon with a Suzuki 150. With 7 people on board, and 3/4 tank of fuel (58gal tank) it runs 38mph at 5900rpm. Prop is a 15.3"x19pitch solas aluminum 3 blade (for now, can never leave well enough alone).

33hrs since July 1!
