Not sure what I am doing wrong but I can't flawed to get the filter to seal correctly. There seems to be a gap and no matter how much I tighten it, it leaks. Just cleaned the internal filter screens and I haven't run across this before: already spent an hour on it.

Any ideas???? Drinking beer now.

Is the giant O ring still round? Did you lube it well with actual pool filter o ring lube? Aladdin is a good brand.

There are also two notches on those that line up. One on the lid and one on the base.

The lube helps alot....then the lid will slide on easier without rolling the o ring. Mine is kinda stretched out and needs to be replaced, but I can still get it to work. Start from the back and lean your body weight on the lid to hold it as you push it in around the front.......with your body on it, try to work in the o ring in the front and get the rest of the lid to pop down......like I said, lube helps slide it better......of course. :D

Try turning the pump on, just until it over flows the bottom filter half, turn pump off. Push down on the top of the filter. The suction should help get in back into place.

I didn't lube it but it doesn't seem to be even sitting right when It is on there. One side sides flush, the other had about an inch and a half.

Wanted to make sure it wasn't the internals and it does the same thing when the filter screens are all out

On the Purex filters this trick works. Haywards it is all about the lube.

Check to make sure where the o-ring sits on the filter that it is clean and debris free. Also check the lid. Once you have it tightened take a rubber mallet and tap the band all the way around and then tighten it up a little bit more.

I don't go straight down with the lid....I get the back of the lid around the o ring, hold it in place with my hands, and then get my chest/belly and push the front down until it pops onto the o ring all around.

Aww. Ok, What kind of lube did you use? The teflon based is shit so throw it away. Be GENTAL! Its a old o-ring. If your using silicone lube your not using enough. If you don't have any lube at all use Vaseline.....a lot of it. Make sure all surfaces are as clean as a little sister. Lube all little sister surfaces. Now make sure the o-ring is set as center as possible and lower top half on as center as possible. With a little finesse if the lip of upper half does not go over o-ring get a step ladder. Up step latter and both feet set on each side of pressure gauge center....be careful! now find o-ring side that is fish-lipped. Start from one side of fish-lipped o-ring and work it in with you fingers till the lid pops on. You will know when it does. Be careful. If it doesn't work you will need a new o-ring. If it works you will still need a new o-ring for the next time. 28 years in the bizz.

I went thru this on Saturday. I over tightened the clamp and it would leak at the spaces in between. Took apart and cleaned and verified o-ring was seated and then did not tighten clamp as much. No leaks

The size of the gap that I see in your picture would lead me to believe your problem is inside where your filters are. I have a Hayward pro grid filter system and I'm guessing our filters are somewhat similar. When installing the filter grids did you 1st lubricate the outlet tube and o-ring and also the inside of the tube connector of the manifold. If those two pieces don't go together properly the the filters won't seat down to the lower filter body. That may be the reason for the big gap that you see between the upper filter body and the lower filter body...

This ^^^^ is what I'm thinking... have to make sure those filters are seated, clean and lube all areas of the ring... 18 years doing my own pool... Never have i had to stand on a filter....

Well, like the hookers always say, "better to lube up"!!

Lube the shit outta it and it sealed like a clam!

Thanks for all the input.

Oh, and the hedges are high like that to hide the equipment.
