Hard to say why the lower broke off. By the time I felt a vibration it was all over. In my mind I can't see the lower shearing off causing a blade to break. But I can see a blade breaking off and causing other damage. The mid is broken. For all I know it's possible I hit something and fractured it and or the blade on the prop. Anyhow it's a Chad Hill I believe?!?. I got it used. So who knows what it went through in its earlier life. I was told it was on Lynch's Force before my boat.

Hmmmm...I have 2 Ron Hill ET4 props...I ran a 24P last season (by far, the best performing prop I've had on the boat) and just bought a 26P from them to try this summer. This summer. I can try and acid etch to see if the blades are welded or if it's a one piece casting, or I suppose one could just call Ron or Chad.

I cracked an ET on my Stoker with a 2.5. I always inspected the prop when I removed it so I found the damage before it became catastrophic. I have seen three failed ET props and everyone of them threw part of the ear off, not the entire blade like what you experienced. Whoever built that prop sold an expensive day waiting to happen. That thing is built to fail in a big way. Good luck with your search those 15" mid's are getting harder to find.

I just needed the exhaust housing which is still available from Mercury. Thank fully. Oh, along with the internals of a lower and a prop. Lol.

I've watched Hill make their props, it's a one piece cast, they don't weld on blades, everything is molten and poured in to castings.

Was that a real 15" or a cut down 20"? Hope it wasn't a real one $$$$.

X2,

I have used their props on all of my boats, never had a problem.

The thinner the prop or the higher you surface it, the sooner it will fail. Other than 2, I've always bought used props to run on my STV. I'd regularly get about a season/year out of a prop before it threw a blade. Got a decent collection of broke props now.

Anyhow, last one I remember, I was running about 100 and all was good. I started to slow down a bit to make a left hand sweeper and when I went to accelerate again, RPM but not much speed. I started to slow down and once I got down to about 30, I could feel the vibration. The slower I went, the worse it got. Bottom line is, if you're moving along under power, you might not even notice the vibration because the frequency is so high...but that could break the mid after not so much time.

Is that a real ET or a Ron Hill piece of shit? It looks terrible.
Ron Hill piece of shit? Seriously? My uncle and I both have 26 Choppers running pretty dry and not a single blip of an issue at all. Shit, he still has a smaller 24 Ron Hill Chopper that is almost 40 years old and doesn't have a single issue on it either.

I tried a lot of props, that was my favorite all around prop. I got it used. It's been on at least three other boats. Plus I think I hit something the day before. I don't blame the Hills in any way over this failure. The other two blades have a nick in them so they hit something.

Eh... My distaste for ron hill and his shitty rip offs go back quite a few years....but good to see Joe is getting you hooked up. Be sure to check the upper mount bolts after that. Which I'm sure he did.

I have no idea who would do such a thing, but someone must of been pissed. :headscratch:
