Yes. Studs are snapped off. Looks like I just have to buy an exhaust housing.

I might have a couple spares...I'll check tonight. Mine are the normal ones, not the Offshore units like yours though.

Lost my lower and prop in front of Pirates. Looks like my mid section broke in half. Is there anyone who does this?

Here ya go Paul.

was following "big steve" in his War-canoe in Delta last year and his Merc 3.2 stroker 300XS had exact same failure at 100mph,identical to your pik where it took section of mid housing with it:(we were gonna drag or dive for it,but never did..OK by me as that water has less then foot visibility most time of year, also with those speeds,no telling exact location

Shit...nope, all I found a few 20" mids. This is what happened to our (not really our...the guys I was crewing for) 15" mid on the last lap at the Parker 336/300/whatever it was called last year.

I run a 20" with a jack plate to get the propshaft near the keel on my boat. Was that a factory 15" mid or a welded deal?

I have a spare 15 inch drive shaft little rust in the water pump area. Did you bang the rev limiter?

Yes. It's an ET. [emoji1418]I tried ten props. This thing worked so well. But a welded on blade? I've seen a vdrive come apart after throwing a blade. Didn't know an outboard could do it too.

The blades are welded on??? Is that how they're made new, or was it a repair?

You lost a blade and that fractured the lower or the vibration was so bad in that split section that it cracked in some hairline fracture that's been sitting there minding its own business for 20 years.

They are not welded on. All but one ET I have had broke. These props have a very finite life span. Especially for what they go for.
By the way the studs are sheared off there has been some funny business going on.

Hard to say why the lower broke off. By the time I felt a vibration it was all over. In my mind I can't see the lower shearing off causing a blade to break. But I can see a blade breaking off and causing other damage. The mid is broken. For all I know it's possible I hit something and fractured it and or the blade on the prop. Anyhow it's a Chad Hill I believe?!?. I got it used. So who knows what it went through in its earlier life. I was told it was on Lynch's Force before my boat.

Another thing. My turn fin at lower speeds sends a vibration through the entire boat. So it's hard to differentiate that vibration from anything else going on. Had the prop been intact I'd say the lower sheered off because of impact or the mid section failing. Since the blade is gone I can't say unless the unit hit something on the way out off the boat. I had a thought though, maybe the blade broke, locked up the lower unit, and sheered it off. I'd have no way of knowing unless I see a point of impact. I'll have to climb around the transom really good and see if I see anything.

One more thing, I know 300xs's are known for breaking ET's while ski racing from torque. I really didn't think 2.5's had the same issue.

I cracked an ET on my Stoker with a 2.5. I always inspected the prop when I removed it so I found the damage before it became catastrophic. I have seen three failed ET props and everyone of them threw part of the ear off, not the entire blade like what you experienced. Whoever built that prop sold an expensive day waiting to happen. That thing is built to fail in a big way. Good luck with your search those 15" mid's are getting harder to find.
