Race is being cancelled because of CA COVID lock downs. They don’t trust ca to reopen and want to give teams time to set up cars for Daytona road course. For media partners it’s also easier to leave equipment set up for 2 weeks at Daytona then just move down to homestead.
Fontana can’t get new track built quickly with COVID crap, so the plan is one more race on speedway and build new short track by 2023. And yes my state sucks.

If the pages oval is blue, then it doesn’t look like it touches the paved oval at all?

From what I recall from I believe a previous post on RDP they are reconfiguring the property essentially, building a small oval for short track racing and building out a real drag strip I believe?

There is nothing in California but traffic and people .
Can anyone refresh my mind why it’s good ,
and it’s not the weather, beaches and mountains

LOL that might change and give way to 6 story wood framed jungles called "low income housing" for those essential section eight recipients because everyone deserves a roof over their head funded by taxpayers right ? 🤬

Yes I believe they are selling off some of the land, demoing the track and redoing the stands and the track.

As stated above they are modifying the track to a short track Richmond format. What they're doing with the infield hasn't been finalized or disclosed to SCCA from what I've been told. Sucks as this January will be our last time racing the Roval. Its a rough but fun track.

For those that didn't read my link, the removal of the race from the 2021 schedule has nothing to do with the planned track reconstruction. That has been postponed to 2023.

This is about COVID-19 and California's draconian rules.

Simple enough property has become worth more than the racing. A SOCAL tradition.
To this day I can’t figure out how the LA Fairgrounds still survives. Way too much real estate and money and no back room deals with developers?
It just pains me to watch SOCAL degrade since the 80’s.

Didnt they build the track there because the land was so contaminated from Kaiser steel and could never be used for anything else?

That had to be fun coming down off the banking and onto the infield... LVMS roval transition was a handful in an aggressive street car!

there not a lot of banking where we turn left into the infield but we’re 150+ mph 6th gear since start finish. Maybe 20 seconds. Then threshold braking into 2nd to make the left.

more banking on entry. You can smack your front wing if you’re not careful

The entry seems like it would be sketchy in fast car with little aero. It's bumpy leading up to it and you have to be fast there as the entire straight depends on it

yeah it’s about 180 degrees from the start finish. You can see a little black flag box on the outside wall before the tire marks. I count to 5 quickly when I hit that in my peripheral vision and brake like a mother fucker 150+ to 60-70 is my best guess. I don’t ever look at mph because I don’t really want to know lol

That that is a freakin bus stop. I've got my car wheelhopping there a couple times. I hit 160 on the front straight before dropping to about 125 through turn 1 &2 because I'm scared of dying with no aero on my car. :)

lol! My front ride height is like 38 mm
Mine is like 125mm.. that is the only thing that sucks about my car. It is too damn high off the ground. It needs a front splitter, at minimum to go fast.

16-18th. They might still have Wu flu restrictions but I’m sure you can sneak in. Just say you’re with SCCA Cal club at the gate.
I will try to make it out this time! I want to do the open track day the weekend before as well.

Though I hate my states politics and hope to get out. This is a big state and there are a lot of conservative and no traffic areas. My town has no stop lights. I’m in the foothills, 30 mins to Yosemite, 2 hours to the coast, 4 hrs to casinos, large lake 20 mins, 4 lakes within 1 hour. And we have 4 distinct but mild seasons.

Nice how soon
can't answer that not my place to
can say
Land acquired
re-zone for motorsports park approved
civil and site plan in approval process
I will be tweaking the plan to have MotoCross and SXS tracks
and a parking lot to rival the Fairplex
then on to the structural
it's a long process for any civil/commercial project

That's not bad. LVMS had turn 1 deep in the banking. Either had to drop onto the apron early and not get the banking benefit, or really unsettle the car making the transition.

How about they run the roval course at ACS as the last race? The 2 mile oval is so damned boring. If it wasn't then they wouldnt be making the changes. So I say try the roval just for the hell of it before it winds up like richmond or bristol.

I've been going to that track for years for NASCAR (and Indy), even back when the NASCAR race was a 500 in the middle of August. Never my favorite place.
