Finally home and recovered from my first DS in my new to me boat!

Wow, what an experience! We drove in from North Scottsdale and about 5 minutes out of Parker we had a blowout on the trailer. I carry an impact and Jack with me so we had it changed in 5 minutes. Stopped in Parker and got the spare replaced and we were on to Havasu!

I had a slip at the marina so we met our friends there, got the boat docked, and headed to our Air B NB.

Consumed some beverages and then headed a few blocks over to the Street Party! Wow, talk about sensory overload! Visited some of the vendors and stopped at RDP for a tank top for me and the misses! Did some drinking at the Irish bar and then headed back to the pad.

The next morning we were at the boat at 8:30 and started heading to Havasu Springs for breakfast. The 22ft Advantage Bada Bing Bada Boom did awesome! Hats off to Octane Marine for getting my new to me boat running and fixing some issues I wasn’t aware of. Breakfast was amazing! On the way back, we putted up the lake checking out the poker run! That was awesome, watching those insane boats haul ass!

We took a lap through the channel but there was no parking; We came around the island and docked the boat and headed to the Nautical! We drank, ate, and partied!! We went back to the pad and got ready for dinner at ChaBones! I had the tomahawk and it was unreal! Headed over to Kokomo after that to meet some friends and enjoy more libations.

Saturday morning we woke up a little later and headed upriver to Topock. It was rough AF out there and on the way the front of my captain chair pulled out of the floor. It was interesting driving the boat after that but we continued. I got disoriented near the entrance to the river and next thing I know we were sand duning! I screamed for everyone to get in the front of the boat, trimmed up, and by some miracle made it to deeper water. I jumped behind another boat that looked like he knew where to go and we got the far right entrance to the river experience. The Gorge was beautiful and we stopped at Topock for lunch. What a spectacle out there!

After lunch, we headed down river and was able to hug the reeds and get into the main lake. Man, was it rough! 4 foot rollers all the way back to the island. As we were coming around the island to the bridge side of the channel, I was staying close to shore. There were no shallow markers and it was there I hit some rocks and screwed up my propeller that I just got redone! Talk about depressing! We motored in to the channel and found a spot, and hung out for a few hours. We went back to the marina and pulled out the boat and had dinner at the pad.

Sunday morning we left early and headed back to SDL. Near Lake Pleasant, we had another blowout on the trailer. Had it changed quick and we made it home. All in all, great trip with the new boat despite the issues. Gonna go to a 24p prop from 26 to help get on plane faster and get my seat fixed. Can’t wait to get back to Havafew!!

Sounds like an epic weekend. Did a little of everything. You’ll have in dialed in by next DS.

At the Havi pad I have a one time used Merc s/s 24p ( stuck with my labbed 26). Also a 4 blade s/s Solas 25 I think. I’ll check next time if you’re interested.

sounds like a pretty good weekend outside of some down time changing tires... time for a new set. when one goes, its an indicator that they all gonna go soon after. time to try another prop i guess too, sorry bout that.

It was an awesome weekend! Shit happens, it was the first time I drove my own boat on Havasu. And yes, sucks that I had two blowouts and screwed up my new prop but hey, it’s part of the game. 90% of the world doesn’t get to do what we do. Boating, off roading…shit breaks!

Well you pretty much got everything shook down on this trip, your next will be a complete 180! I can say though, the rough water shit is par for the course at Havasu these days. Even midweek is busy. But everything else is preventable! Get those tires replaced and prop swapped, all good!

Thanks for the recap and welcome to the Zoo! :)

Two blow outs on the trailer in the same weekend? I'm looking for new tires for my trailer, what kind of tires were yours? was it due to age? hit something? Want to make sure I dont have the same fate- Sure sounds like you had a nice time but 4-foot rollers?? I would be toast in my little 19-footer

They are just old tires. I knew better but I’ve spent so much money on tires this year I was trying to make them last! Dumb on me. I’m going to go with a Load E trailer tire. Tires are good for 5 years and that’s it. When I’m doubt, just replace. Don’t forget other trailer maintenance too. I have a guy coming over to pack bearings and replace leaf springs next week.

My 22 Advantage handled the 4 foot rollers very well. I wasn’t doing 50, but it did 25 through them no problem. The owner of Advantage told me that the 22 Citation is the best little big boat out there. Glad I went with it. The sides are taller than similar other sized boats like Eliminator and Cheetah.

Sounds like a learning trip to havasu but still overall fun!

I have a 25 pitch trophy if you want to try it on your boat Just to see how it runs. It’s small diameter so it’s ok to step up a pitch, as there is a little more slip.

On another note, if you don’t have the Milwaukee snub nose 3/8 impact in your arsenal, get one! Also, carry a Jack in your truck. It was so easy and fast to change tires my wife said I should be in a NASCAR pit crew. Having roadside assistance is nice for bigger issues, but for a tire you can’t beat a quick change on the side of the road. 2 spares isn’t a bad idea either.

Your booth was great RiverDave! I may take you up on that offer when I’m there in June.
