My Lake Lice Encounter...

This Wednesday I was about 6 miles South of Jack Smiths on the river in Needles. Beautiful day. Tubes with the kids and my nephew for 2 hours in the morning. It was smooth, uncrowded and awesome! I would say 40 boats all day and 8 Sea-Doos. Pack up at 5pm, not crowded at all. So I offered a tube ride to the kids for the way back to the launch. Some tool on a red Sea-Doo starts following behind my three kids about 20 feet behind the tube. I pull to the side and idle down. He passes and proceeds to zigzag past me up river. I wait 3 minutes, and resume. He then loops back behind me and when I pull to the side again he roosted my kids on the tube about 10 feet behind them at about 30 mph approaching them from behind! Wife had me let it go, but I almost chased him down and put my slide anchor through the asshat. White dude, red hair?, beard, wanna be Ufc McGregor looking dude. I'm not gonna let some untalented knob take out my family, I believe I followed proper protocol to not allow it to happen, right? Rant over.

That's north of my jurisdiction, but I'd encourage you guys to think about videotaping reckless operation like that and forwarding to local LEOs. If somebody brought me a decent video of with vessel number and a face shot I'd go after it hard.

To tell the truth, it has made me want to buy a go pro just aimed at behind the boat for that purpose. Sucks to have to consider that, but this could have ended bad for my kiddos.

I had this happen near Buskskin a few years back. Slowed down, let the kid pass me, then followed him as he drove it back to shore to trade spots with a younger sibling as the parents watched. Told the dad he needs to understand if my kids fall off the tube he would of had zero time to react and if his driving style continues he will either kill someone or get killed by a boat. As I drove away the kid was getting his ass chewed by the dad....made me happy the dad agreed and didn't just brush it off

This is where a jet drive comes in handy. Let them get close, let up on the throttle with the place diverter down. When they get to close, let up, slam the diverter all the way up and hammer down. It's like knocking down flying insects with a garden hose. Jet skis don't have shit on a BB jet boat with a place diverter.

I don't have a jet boat, so the only redemption besides verbal altercations is running next to them when they realize they cant outrun you. Try and stick by their side, 60MPH isn't shit and they don't like something faster and much bigger than them choosing to ride beside them. Do that for 20 minutes and they will leave you alone.

I saw a guy dealing with lake lice jumping his wake and getting too damned close to his stern. They'd have ate his prop if he came off the throttle. His girlfriend solved the issue with a cop full of ice up in the air and pelted him with a few cubes.

I've had far more pwc issues with adults than kids. I honestly do not think most of 'em have a clue about rules on the water and if approached reasonably they will listen and take it as good advice. Then there are the indignant idiots who need ice chunks up side the head.

Precisely why I don't carry my firearm onboard. Unfortunately we have encountered this scenario numerous times while kid tubing, even had an adult on a sit-down jet ski cross my line while wake boarding. Now we only tow during the week in less popular areas and coves. There just seems to be a total lack of common sense these days so I can see why a mandatory boating safety course is starting to make more sense and an hour or two operating orientation should be mandatory for rentals. Just my opinion.
