So I’ll give a little background. This kid is super smart but not the college smart and want to spend his adulthood in a cubicle building spreadsheets and then being happy about it at the end of the day.

He’s smart in problem solving from a mechanical way.

So I have him figure shit out on his own usually. He’s a curious mind that wants to know how stuff works so when it breaks he can know how to fix or how to band-aid it.

I give him the “blocking & tackling” of how to rebuild his dirt bike motor or how to tune suspension and he figures it out himself with a little input from myself along the way. He’s engaged and determined to see it through. He's actually pretty good and I’m super proud of him. College definitely won’t be his path but he’ll be highly successful without it.

So last night he’s complaining that the 10mm socket is elusive. I sent him a meme and he was like, “I’ve seen those meme’s but never knew what they meant!”

… and that’s the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say 😂

My daughter has been buggin' pretty good. I got this one a few minutes ago.

I feel bad enough for the poor kid when that magical time of the month rolls around...let alone give her a weapon. 🙀

Lol, not happening.

My daughter does similar shit. She wants a luxury pre-runner truck or a Raptor and sends me endless links to for-sale ads and then gets mad when I tell her she’s crazy thinking I’d buy her one of those for her first car.

I guess it could be worse. We could be raising some purple haired ultra liberals 😂

Mine wanted a Jeep.

That fawker is still parked with about 30 CEL codes.

Now she drives a Honda.

Shortly before Xmas...

I'm jealous...I tried to teach my 12 year old to change the oil on the pit bike (not the end of the world if something goes wrong) and he ended up stripping a bolt hole for the oil filter cover. Now he is timid about working on any bikes.

I’m only sharing the good parts of these stories which isn’t fair to the thread.

I’ve experienced plenty of what you’re describing with these kids. They’ve wrecked more shit than they’ve fixed but the cliche saying, “get back on the horse” applies. They have to attempt it again.

It’s absolutely brutal to watch our kids fail at something, regardless of how mundane it may seem but, that’s what you have to let them do. Then they have to fix their fuck up so the cycle doesn’t repeat lol

There’s a lot of life lessons in the most basic tasks with these kids if we look for and, seek out, those lessons in the most basic of tasks.

Threw in the towel and finally had to tell my kid, a cross thread is a tight thread🙄😂😂

But now he is almost an expert at tapping and repairing threads. Got him a heli coil and time cert kits too.

That and some left handed drill bits for all the bolts they break. Especially the 6mm x 1.00 they always seem to break those. Atleast my nephews do. One of them said "fuk it, I'm starting fresh" and went and picked this up a couple weeks ago 2025 CRF450 WORKS EDITION 🤣🤣 he is pretty stoked!!

LOL, and I thought it was bad with my 14yo son sending me pics of decently built Ford Ranger pre-runners for his first car...

That’s a nice bike. Let’s see what he can fuck up first on it 😂

All kidding aside, and at the risk of sounding like our own parents/grandparents, this younger generation is built different.

My garage is full of Super73’s and Surron’s just because “electric dirt bikes” are the cool thing today, yet, not a single one of these nerds could make a collect call from jail cell because they don’t know how to use a pay phone or how it even works 😂
