I too know how you feel. My daughter moved to Nashville 4 years ago. I'm still not over it.

It doesn't get easier. I miss her every day. But at least in my case. My kid moved to a place that will let her have a better lifestyle than here in California. That's the positive.

Outside of Seattle

My daughter moved up to Wenatchee and is on her way back as we speak!

She moved to be with her smoke Jumper boyfriend, and he decided it wasn't for him. So they are both heading home now.

But man I feel your pain...

I drove up there with her. When she dropped me off at the airport so I could fly home, I cried like a little bitch. 😭

Take a Deep breath. It sucks, but you'll be fine. Look at it this way...

It's beautiful up there. You'll have a place to stay to go check it out and explore! 👍🏼

My eyes would leak too! — having someone move to a state that is as KOMMIE as Kommiefornia!

You say that, but...

We were at a public park. I watched a girl get out of her car to go use a public restroom.

She left her car running with the keys in it!!! 😱

Kids bikes laying in the front yards just like back in the old days.

Definitely knew I wasn't in SoCal anymore.

Is this a daughter thing level of emotion? Cause when I moved to Paso... nobody came close to crying. When we moved to Tucson... nobody cried. And mixed emotions when we moved back to Cali..... maybe we're not as loved as I thought. Lol!

Ha ha. I heard a saying years ago. A sons a son until he takes a wife. A daughters a daughter all your life. 🤷🤔

If it makes you feel better, you can borrow our boys anytime you'd like! 🤣 I know it's bitter sweet for you both, but congratulations! 👍

I feel ya - My daughter moved from SoCal to Alaska last Sunday, sold her car and flew up - has friends she is with. Big move for her, but I wanted to do the same at her age, so i understand - face time will help with the water leaks.

Well crap. Dan seems to be one of the most laid back individuals here...and this ain't easy for him. I'm nowhere near that calm. My daughter is set to finish college in spring. From there, who knows where she'll end up. She wants an alphabet agency job...she could end up anywhere! It scares me, and makes me sad.

Hang in there Dan! The only thing constant is change, they say.

Next time we go up to WA Ill text you to get ahold of her. Washington has some cool stuff, and some great breweries all over the place...we can get her out on the boat or on some snowmobiles in Leavenworth. One of my buddies is a pilot out of gig harbor if she wants to explore. I'll make sure that you know when we will be up there and get you out on the big boat with her.

I'm not going to know what to do with myself when the girls move along in life, probably move on top of a mountain and become a hermit.

Reading everyone’s posts makes me think. Not sure what is better. Either way as parents we need to raise our kids to move out or we are not doing them right. Your daughter Dan is doing what you raised her to do. Go out and explore her dreams. It is a bitter sweet deal for sure.

Our son who is 28 grew up in Hawaii with family near. He went away to college, graduated explored adulting and decided the big city and rat race was not for him. Ended up finding his happy place and is enjoying the life that he has chosen.

I hope that your daughter gets out and has a blast!!! Then after she sowes her oats she might find that she wants to be closer to you. Just keep the communication going and who maybe it is in the cards that you two can be closer down the road.

My daughter and granddaughters are only 2.5 hours away, and I think that's too damn far. Can't imagine another state.

My daughter moved from OC to SD at 18 for school and stayed there ( can't blame her Encinitas is awesome ) I will make sure I don't complain about being and hour and half north ever again. Will also have granddaughter any day now.

@H20 Toie I've got 3 daughters ranging from 20-26, and the nearest one to me is 5 hours, the furthest is 25 hours by car.

I find myself "paying it forward" with helping others that need help at gas stations and on the road. I always feel that hopefully if one of mine need help, there's some karma involved.

All 3 have AAA cards, know how to change tires, check air pressure (they get new digital tire pressure gauges from me for Christmas every year...;)), and check oil. They also file "flight plan" when they're traveling so we can check in, and we all have iPhones with location turned on so we can see where each other are. Somehow we make it work!

We keep in touch by phone and FaceTime with all of them.

Two of the three spent the weekend at our place in LOTO this weekend, and those 3-day weekends are priceless. I hope you find a balance with your daughter.

We dropped our youngest off at CBU in 2016 and became an empty nest. It was an adjustment at first especially letting go and not knowing her whereabouts FFwd she graduated in 2020 with a BA in Kinesiology worked summers at 1000 Pines camp which turned into a full time job where she met and married her husband. You have to give them the right upbringing and then trust them to use that in their life/decisions. It's all you can do. All of this happens fast, when you're looking back on it, not while it's going on. The best thing I did was marry up and somehow she stuck it out with my dumb ass
but it was the one thing that set all of this in motion.
