Just wanted to give a plug to Kevin over at KMG Boats here in San Diego. He just re-rigged my Daytona with a new 300XS. Did a great job adding hydraulic steering, inboard oil tank, smartcraft gauge, new trim and jack controls, etc. He also filled in a couple holes where the old motor (2.5/260) had two control hoses, new one has only one. Also had to fill in where the steering cables were on the right aft side. Great job on everything. Very reasonable on his pricing, although there is no easy way to justify purchasing a brand new 300xs. Some of you may remember that our boat was up for sale a couple years ago - last year when the 2.5 grenaded. We went back and forth on what to do with our boat. We only got 20 hours on it before it killed the "newly rebuilt" 2.5, so this was a re-marrying of our boat investment wise. I know that I'll never get the money out, but you wouldn't boat if that was the major concern. It's our little sports car that we are gonna keep forever, right!!!!!????

There are a couple of threads up on S & F about KMG. He bought DCB's Mach 22 mold and is making it under the Phantom 22 name. He's finishing up a twin Phantom 22 right now that is one of the nicest boats I've ever seen, regardless of size or brands.

Here's a couple pics of our new/old ride. Bad quality pics courtesy of my BB Storm!!!!!

ride a few years back. I'm looking forward to seeing what it'll do now. It really does look amazing. I guess I'm biased? June will be here soon.

This is the decision you and your wife came up with instead of buying a new boat? Nice motor...excellent wife choice! :thumbsup

Heading out to the river tomorrow evening. Just reading the manual for breakin. Reccomends breakin at 3/4 throttle most the time with fluctuations between 4500-5200 rpm. No bimini up this weekend!!Insurance is $600/year. Good coverage for what we have into it.

Put a Bravo XS 28 prop on it. Thought about all the et and drag props, but this should do what I need it to, without the side effects of the others. Really don't know what to expect. The prop has definitely been to Mercury's machine shop and the blades thinned out, but it's not a "labbed" prop. I'm hoping it will accelerate pretty good and top out just shy of 100. It's a sportmaster bottom.

Yep, her choice, I showed her many Mach 22's with the 300X on em, but she didn't want to worry about spending that much without a warranty on the motor, thus the new 300xs with a 2 year warranty.

We got burned pretty bad with the "fresh 2.5" when we bought it. I actually would've prefered to get a used Mach 22, but a new 300xs isn't soooo bad!:champagne:

Mine will serve as a nice video platform. And it's really not so bad taken the whole family for a 70 mph flyby. I second the wife commentary!

The whole family @ 70. That's a lot of money in life jackets! Post up some pics of the bimini when you pick it up today. No more fox news for you I see.

For everyone's info on insurance, AAA and Foremeost quoted at $600-700/ year.

They did think it was pretty sporty looking for a top speed of 60!

I only saw these on my phone, since I was on the river. The color looks great. Much better than the opposite white/red scheme.

Full report on the weekend in a few hours.

Steve the boat looks badass. That is my dream boat.

But I gotta ask about the insurance thing. You told them it does 60 tops? I would be worried about that. If god forbid somethig did happen, the underwriters would have your policy for lunch. I would suggest a company that specializes in Cats with big power. Like Markell?

When I was trying to insure a 25' Cat with Triple 2.5's a few years back, I was quoted $3200 a year with a 6 month layup. I would assume your boat would be less than that but in the ballpark.

Just food for thought, and I cant wait to see that thing running this weekend if you are out there. :thumbsup

Chris,

Actually, Foremost didn't care about speed and didn't want pics. The declarations page doesn't have any limitations regarding speed so, I'm not too concerned. My main concern was sinking or theft. Of course sinking cause you crashed while going 90 is possible. We were going to wait two weeks to go back, but we may go back this weekend (23-25th). Hopefully we'll see you out there.

As a follow up in regards to all the work done on the boat by Kevin over at KMG, I wanted to let everyone know that the boat was turn key. Quite a bit of work done with the new engine, hydraulic steering, trim controls and the gel coat being brought back to life.

There was absolutely no problems with the boat. Started and ran great. Followed the break in instructions and ran the boat at approx 3/4 throttle for the first hour avoiding and long idle periods. What a great way to run up and down the river. I didn't have my gps in the boat and my regular speedo is the water type, which isn't accurate, but at 5400rpm, this thing is moving right along faster than my old motor would do at 7200 rpm (2.5 260hp). The prop is a new Bravo I XS 28p. Didn't know how that would work either, but it gave a great holeshot and mid range punch from 4-5.5k. The top end is unknown at this point. I was running down river with a blue stv at 5600rpm (after the first hour) and it was going plenty fast for me. I assume it will top out around 85mph with this prop. The acceleration in the mid range is very strong. Much stronger than I remember with a 26 mazco on the 2.5.

Here's the most amazing part of this motor. I ran almost 5 hours during the break in. I had topped off the tanks when I put the boat in the water. Five hours at 3/4 throttle most of the time, I used twenty gallons of gas all weekend. We went to Picacho twice and half way 5 times and burned 20 gallons of gas. I knew the efficiency of these motors was supposed to be good, but this is amazing! I couldn't be happier about the performance and the fuel burn. The smartcraft gauge actually told me I burned 25 gallons, but my dipping the tanks told me different.

Kevin did quite a bit of work on the gel coat to bring it back to life as well. It had some oxidation on the darker purple, but it looks like brand new again. I dont' have any pics other than stills in the water, so here's one.

By the way, I saw a few of you guys I'm sure going by the sandbar, but was having too much fun driving to stop. We'll be back down this weekend and/or the next weekend and stop by and say hi.

BarryMac, what kind of boat are you in, so I know what to look for? I saw pontoon babe on the north side of the sandbar by martinez, maybe you were there as well?

There was a lot of eliminators and dcbs out last weekdend incase you guys didn't notice. I've never seen so many in one weekend.

Thanks for the compliments from all of you. :champagne:Cheers.

On a side note, notice the ultra jet boat behind mine with the fishing poles and the fishing seats mounted on top the engine cover. Two fisherman showed up, kicked everybody's ass in horseshoes all day long (undefeated) and then left at the end of the day. I had never seen a jet boat with fishing seats mounted on top the engine cover. The guys they beat in horseshoes all day were serious too. They had those fancy beer holders/score keepers. Pretty funny stuff!

Steve,
We were riding with PonToonBabe this past weekend. My boat is a white, orange and blue Carrera 202XR Jet.

I did see quite a few Eliminators that were similar to yours. There was a guy launching Sunday around the same time we did that had a big Johnson on the back of his Eliminator, had never seen that combo before...

Congrats on the new motor break in, sounds like it's going to be a fantastic boat for years to come...

Here's my boat, I'll be on the look out for you...

That's right, I've seen your boat before on the thread. The guy with the Johnson was Olen. We met him on Saturday at the sandbar. I had never seen a Johnson on an Eliminator before either. We were giving him a hard time about that email going around about "Johnson" motors and women. It's pretty funny.

We may be back out this weekend. See you out there.

Super clean boat! What did the upgrade cost rigged? I have been debating buying a 21 with HP already attached or buying one and doing it my way. You can PM me if don't want it publicized....I tried PMing you but I'm a newbie.....not aloud to PM yet
