I thought I'd try down here versus the lounge for some hand's on experience. Need to move equipment from the OC in So Cal to northern Nevada. I think I fall firmly between the average garage stuff that normal movers would move, and the heavy equipment/low bed stuff. I have a bridgport knockoff, 13x40 lathe on pedestals, 48" blast cabinet, gun safe, unisaw, a couple of large tool boxes, and bunch of smaller odds and ends. I've never had to move stuff like this a long distance. I'd really appreciate some ideas.

Strap it down good .
use a flat bed trailer and a forklift

Rent or borrow a drop deck trailer. The bed of the trailer is hydraulically lowered to load heavy stuff like the lathe and mill and then raises up for transport. You can use pipes to roll the equipment into the trailer.

Personally I would call Walker Brothers but that's because Kenny and Janice Walker were friends and customers of mine. They owned K&J tools in Anaheim. Their son's started the machinery moving company after working for their parents moving machines.

I had utilized them from the late 70's to the late 90's and started to go with Walker early 2000's. If you need a rate call Louie Faas, he does their quoting. Inland Rigging is based out of riverside and will warehouse and move your stuff wherever. I tried them on my move but they didnt seem interested, too small a job maybe.

The drop deck trailer is great for this stuff

It’s not hard, it’s labor intensive and you need some help and the right equipment. A pallet jack and a drop deck trailer or tilt trailer with a winch. It is how I’ve moved mills and like heavy objects before.

The lathe you have to be careful not to roll over, they are way harder to move than mills.

Do not use skates on the lathe, roll it on round bar or heavy wall pipe.

When i got my big Graziano it can't really be rolled on bar because it has a huge gap where the chip pan goes, so i made skates like tom lipton in this video, these can't slip out and the weight hangs below the axle center.

If your lathe has no gap in the frame you can actually use these to center balance and rotate and move the whole machine on just the singe pair of wheels. Otherwise use these on the headstock end and then a single skate on the tailstock end.

You can sling though the bed, just make a wood block to guide the strap around the lead screws so they don't get bent

I appreciate the advice. I used a sling and blocks to get it off of the truck originally. Loading isn't my worry as much as safely transporting them. Going to price a couple of the recommended machinery movers.

Lots of straps, chains, and a little bit of thought. I used and AC crane service to get these out of the house i bought them from. I think it cost $120 each.

I have a lot of respect for machinery movers and riggers, but it's also not rocket science. And it definitely is a good skill to have to know how to safely move heavy equipment. All of my machines i have moved myself, there is something to be said for being able to do it yourself and not have to rely on anyone.

If you have a decent trailer transporting is the easiest part. On the heavy machines you want to use some hard wood under them on the trailer deck, Oak or better.

The Graziano and Mori are each around 6,000-7,000lbs if i had to guess

2000lbs stuff regular pine/fir is good for dunnage

I was going to suggest a reach lift rental. A couple years back, one of my friends passed. Another friend bought his 2 Pullmax machines, lathe and mill. The driveway was pavers, and sloped. The reach lift was the best solution, as the equipment had been put in previous to landscaping...actually before he finished the house.
