So is there now a shortage of motor oil? I have been to Wal Mart, 3 AutoZone's and even checked on Amazon. No luck. Specifically I'm in looking for syn 0w-20. Most other weights were out as well with store shelves bare. The staff says they get a little oil in and its gone same day? WTF?

I have always done my own oil changes and never have had an issue finding oil. Strange.

I read on the internet so take it for what it is worth, there is a problem with getting some of the additives for the oil. Been having trouble finding specific oils too. Tractor Supply had their brand in stock, but have no idea how good or bad it is.

Costco today had 0-20 and several other common weights. Bought 2 boxes of Mobil 1 on sale. They also had lots of DEF. Maybe they have it in other areas.

Are you asking about dead dinosaurs or full synthetic? I wouldnt think full syn would really be hit, since its not petroleum to start with, though there might be some additives that could come from it.

I just got an oil change from a GM dealership and they use that Dexos Full Syn now as default for oil changes, the guy didnt say he was having shortages. I used to fight for Mobil 1 full syn but 90% of the time the techs wouldnt read the paperwork and just give me the dead dinosaurs (back when they had that as an option for older vehicles). It was a real pain getting that switched when I picked up the vehicle.

I do carry a quart or two from a Costco carton of Mobil 1 full syn for topping off if needed, no issues getting it from Costco.

ETA: To clarify I'm talking about full syn based on Group 4 or Group 5 base stocks, and not any "full syn" based on Group 3.

Good call on Costco. Just got back picked up a few cases of Mobil 1 and they had the $10 off per case as well. RDP comes through again!

I was also questioning why full synthetic would be a problem? Every damn parts store was out.

It's not Rotella.....but if anyone runs Castrol GTX 20-50 (I run it in my boat for a few reasons....) - You can get 5 gallon jugs on amazon for $21.00 with one-day delivery. Just an FYI

Peak BLUE DEF at Costco was $9.99. Out of town last weekend and had to get some in a pinch at AutoZone, last 3 boxes, and it was $19.99 a box.

You can run Rotella T4 no problem.
Plenty of that around town.

I just changed my oil on 2 cars last month and got it at autozone. No shortage that I saw so this must be recent.

it's an old thread from early 2022. chit be back to normal now, well, except for the inflated prices and all.

Biden knew that he had to have low gas prices to get re-elected so his advisers decided just to stop the motor oil from being dispersed to continue his push for electric cars.

I have. The technical reviews I have read and watched appear to be good. Between that and the price, I figured can't go wrong.
Thanks, I've read a few reviews. I wanted first hand experience with it. I change every 4-5 k, probably can't go wrong with it.

Haven't used it yet as the Mobil1 gets put on coupon often & price is comparable, but I have watched a couple videos of tests that prove it to be as good or better than name brand. I believe it is even manufactured by the same producers. I won't hesitate to use it when that time comes.

I was going back and forth between the Mobil1 and Kirkland 2 weeks ago when I bought it cause the price was only a couple $ different. Then I realized the mobil1 was that price for 6 quarts and the Kirkland was that price for 10 quarts. I went with the Kirkland, FAR less per quart.

Yeah there’s zero chance Costco is making their own oil. They’re relabeling it from a real oil company.

It’s made by Warren Oil.

I’ve been getting the 12 quart boxes of Mobil 1 at Walmart lately. But the Kirkland stuff is cheaper when it’s on sale.

Ok new question.
How long in advance do you by oil?
Is there a shelf life?
What are you using for a drain pan? I have 4 small pans but nothing to hold 8+ quarts.
