When I was a kid My first "Car' was a Honda 55 trailbike replacing my Mini Bike . I litterally drove the wheels off it , at that time at 15 and a half in Cali you could get a license to drive one but not "hike" anyone , with the advent of E bikes I see Kids riding them everywhere and wonder whats changed ? I also see Older folks riding what look to be unlicensed E Bicycles that look closer to Motor cycles than My Schwinn Varsity 10 speed are E bikes just morphing into motorcyles ?

Its a new category and they dont know what to do about it.
Some are peddle assist and don't go any faster than a regular bike and others are really electric dirt bikes that look like bikes and can do 70.

All I know its a good time to be a kid. We had to chance it every time we rode in the street to the trail.

The Tireman had 3 of these parked there last weekend. Looked like they belonged to the employees. Pretty slick little machines.

My super 73 does 18-20 on flat ground no pedal assist

Those surons are ruining it for no license for an e bike. They will crack down if these kids can’t control themselves

Coming soon to an area by you because people are going to fuck it up:

Expensive registrations
Confusing stickers
Uneducated public safety officers
A reason to pull you over for no reason
Safety inspections
Etc…

I was thinking about being a kid and riding pocket rockets and dirtbikes in the neighborhoods and there was always the neighbor who would bitch you out and give you trouble or worry about cops. Now kids ride around on the e-bikes and they make no noise and dont get in much trouble. Pretty sweet gig to me, glad they get to keep having fun.

The Sur-Ron's were out of control in HB not too long ago. Packs of kids in moto helmets wheeling everywhere (against traffic, river trail, etc) and it was insane. The police cracked down and I don't hardly see them anymore. I believe they were impounding if you didn't have registration and a MC license. Newport and Costa Mesa did the same.

I rode one a few times though and I have to say they are pretty bad ass.

They have been really cracking down on the e bikes on the boardwalk at Pacific and Mission beach lately. But no real enforcement over the 4th. It will only be a matter of time until they are banned everywhere without a license.

Remember it well We had an undeveloped property about a mile away always ran to "gautlets" thru residential streets to get there (and back) for the "hill climbs" great fun ...............in the 60's LOL

Here in Atascadero the Kids use the SP tracks to move about on their dirt bikes

The Surrons are electric motorcycles.

When kids have $4,500. toys and $1,200. phones it's a good neighborhood.

My first motorcycle at 15 1/2 was a new 1974 Kawasaki KS125 enduro I rode to H.S. my junior year. I always found trails, railroad right of ways and vacant land to ride on.

I worked all summer to pay my dad back, he bought it without me knowing, then handed me the invoice I gladly paid. $600?

They’re not ready to crack down on electric motorcycles yet , because they’re part of the narrative right now .

I bought a pw50 for $300 that I used to mob around the neighborhood on when I was a teenager, that same pw50 is like $5-700 now. Even old xr50s that were well used when I was a teenager are now doubled in price for the same bike except its a 15 year older bike. Unfortunately, thats just the expense of things now. I bet that ks125 is $6-800 on craigslist now except its 50 years old!

Did the same thing growing up though, old drying out orange groves or fire trails. When I lived in texas we would ride the irrigation canals. If the cops caught you on the road theyd either look the other way or coast past you and tell you to take it home and we'd respect that and keep the bikes in the garage... for a couple days.

For Lake Havasu,
Electric motorcycles that have an operating power above 750 watts and are designed for off-road purposes cannot be operated on any roadway or path, unless the operator has a valid motorcycle endorsement, and the motorcycle is registered and insured per Arizona Statute.

Any motored cycle equipped with an electric motor over 750 watts is no longer considered an ebike

Electric bikes exceeding 25 mph require a class M license.

I have one Surron and two Super73’s. The Supers are fun and can be jailbroken and they then haul ass. I just follow the rules and have never been hassled. The Surron is pretty much for the desert but I’ll rip it around the neighborhood once in a while. They haul ass.
