Friday coming into San Diego there were 3 or 4 forest fires pouring smoke and we could see the flames hundreds of feet from the ground. Wife and I were too busy doing pilot stuff to take pictures because it was gamey trying to stay VFR.

Today, after self grounding ourselves…. Just enough snow dusting to have seemingly stop them… but I am sure there are still some hot spots.

Just out of Montgomery -Gibbs, heading back to Phoenix!

Thank you California for the hospitality in PB for 5 days!

Did the rain the other day extinguish the palisades and Alta Dena fire? I have not heard anything.

I saw a report last night that those were around 95% contained and mudslides were the new concern.
That and the fire fighters suing the city because they aren’t getting their 25.5 hours of pay. 🤷‍♂️Just heard that on the radio and shook my head.

Other than the numerous flareups inside the containment lines on the Border Fire on Friday, pretty sure there were no others burning. Today there's seven prescribed burns in around Various south county mountain areas.

Awesome picture, you following I-8 ?

I follow I8 generally…. Not out of SD ,but once I am heading into Yuma all the military restricted air space puts you on I8 until I cut the corner at Gila bend into chandler.

Where'd you take that picture ? One thing for sure, that rain sure cleaned up the air, by end of last week it was starting to look like old days LA smog.

Do you work for free? If so, I got a few jobs for you. If not, why would you expect anyone else to work for free? Doesn’t matter what the job is, people should be compensated for their time.

When I show up to work for a shift an 1.5 early. No, I don’t expect to get paid for it.

That’s how it was framed in the media. I’m sure they probably screwed it up. But they also mentioned getting paid for 25.5 hour presumably for 24? 🤷‍♂️

Dang… just thought a positive post from a cool vantage point about a little snow helping save firefighters and people’s property would be cool! But this is RDP…
I liked the picture, I have literally the exact same one with just a little more snow. 😝🤙

@Taboma the road is kitchen creek where it turns into dirt and heads up the hill past the gate.

The picture was awesome. The rain was a huge help.
Now media just concerned with mud slides and fire fighters not getting paid. Wasn’t trying to be a downer, just have to laugh about that.

This is very normal. I got an additional hour of OT on Sunday due what we call a relief train. Anyone that works for a large department knows this. I rather have gone home at 0800 instead of waiting for my relief to show up from another station due to staffing shortages. We’re currently in the middle of testing and promoting captains and engineers but had to pause everything because of the fires. We have approximately 35 new hires starting a tower today.
Fire departments have constant staffing requirements. That means we don’t run short. It’s a safety issue and also an issue with rank or speciality. We can’t leave until our replacement shows up. If someone calls off sick or there isn’t enough qualified personnel, they force hire for the spot. We also dont get vacation leave filled if there is vacancies.

You had more skills to leave early!! I wanted to leave Sunday but waited 2 days with rando hotels etc. until the conditions came to me… high wing photos definitely are superior!!! Great shots

That's as coincidental as anything I've seen. You two taking a photo in literally the same location on seperate days. Super cool😎😎

There is a little saddle over the mountain at that spot that ends up being the path over the mountain that we peddle as hard as we can to get our little planes up and over. Right about that spot you have the elevation to confidently assume you are good to go, so you can finally take a deep breath and look around!

Just getting back from a 21 day stent between Hurst, Eaton and Border 2 fires. I can tell you the Boarder fire got a decent amount of rain off and on Monday through Tues.
