WELCOME TO RIVER DAVES PLACE

Most of the music I listen to is made by anti government socialist miscreants.

It is what it is, these delusional morons make the best music.

But punk rock isn’t all idiots.

On the road this morning. Music is on shuffle ALL. Every Bad Religion album is in the library. Haven’t heard this one in maybe 10 years as It was not favorited or in a specific playlist, however it is now.

Funny how these lyrics have new meaning as an adult. Made me smile. Good start to he week. We can turn things around.

Lyrics -

I don't need to be a global citizen
'Cause I'm blessed by nationality
I'm a member of a growing populace
We enforce our popularity
There are things that seem to pull us under, and
There are things that drag us down
But there's a power and a vital presence
That's lurking all around
We've got the American Jesus
See him on the interstate
We've got the American Jesus
He helped build the president's estate
I feel sorry for the Earth's population
'Cause so few live in the USA
At least the foreigners can copy our morality
They can visit, but they cannot stay
Only precious few can garner the prosperity
It makes us walk with renewed confidence
We've got a place to go when we die
And the architect resides right here
We've got the American Jesus (ah)
Bolstering national faith (ah, ah, ah)
We've got the American Jesus (ah, ah, ah)
Overwhelming millions every day (ah, ah)
He's the farmers' barren fields (in God)
The force the army wields (we trust)
The expression on the faces of the starving millions (because he's one of us)
The power of the man (break down)
The fuel that drives the Klan (cave in)
He's the motive and the conscience of the murderer (we can redeem your sin)
He's the preacher on TV (strong heart)
The false sincerity (clear mind)
The form letter that's written by the big computers (and infinitely kind)
The nuclear bombs (you lose)
The kids with no moms (we win)
And I'm fearful that he's inside me (he is our champion), yeah!
We've got the American Jesus
See him on the interstate (we've got the American Jesus)
We've got the American Jesus
Exercising his authority
We've got the American Jesus
Bolstering national faith (we've got the American Jesus)
We've got the American Jesus
Overwhelming millions every day (ah ah ah), yeah!
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God
I'm gonna tattle to 530 on you....... 😁 😁 😁 😂

Some great bands in this thread. Grew up in the Oxnard punk scene (Nardcore) - illrepute, RKL, Aggression, stalag 13, Rat pack, etc. but also loved bad religion, circle jerks, 7 seconds, minor threat, etc. lot a good gigs when I was a kid. Still have a lot of fliers from those shows.
Always liked some of the main stream “bubble gun punk” too like penny wise, offspring and range against the machine (who I now call rage for the machine). Boggles my mind how most of these bands are like “the Democratic Party is the best”. Lol couldn’t be more opposite of what they sang about in the 80’s 90’s and early 2000’s.

Some of the fliers I just dug out. A lot more buried in the garage.

Lyrics from a very left leaning group that I could really relate to the last 3 years or so

Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!
Motherfucker!
Uggh!

One of my favorites

Do you believe?
We can make a change
Will you believe tomorrow?
Or will it slip away?

Black and white
We're all the fucking same
Demographics
Keep up caught up in the game
Violence
What the fuck do you expect?
The cause has left us
Leaving nothing but effect

The laughter has subsided
Leaving hatred in it's wake
In a nation trusting no one
Sworn to bend but never break
America is burning
Look around it's in the air
But I'll be the last believer
Just as long as I still care
And I still care

What's going on?
What's happened now?
Show me a purpose
Please show me how

Desperate times
One thousand symptoms
One disease
Government tradition
And genocidal policies
Don't look back
Don't wait until history repeats
No, no more lies
No more bodies in the streets

Yeah definitely sell outs in their views and lives....I laughed out loud when they supported the vax... . talk about hypocrisy

I'm just feeling the lyrics. A lot of those old lyrics can easily be conservative views now.... wild times.

Great band. First heard them on the radio in Phoenix in ‘03. Seen them a bunch of times. Have had many drinks with the original 4.

Greenday is the one that kills me. Armstrong has been given everything he could ever ask for from this country and all he does is shit all over it. I can't figure out why he sings with a British accent. Does he think it makes him sound more punk? Their early stuff was good.

Rage, Nofx, early offspring, pennywise, lag wagon, suicidal tendencies, violent femmes, sex pistols, Ramones, Iggy pop, the stooges, face to face, drop kick Murphy's, the bastard suns, flogging molly, reel big fish, social d. This was the music of my youth.

A newer band with a similar sound is the interrupters

65 posts, and not one mention of……….. Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, known as “Oingo Boingo”

Too “new wave” for this thread? Lol

Just some trivia……… Pennywise was formed out of “Mira Costa” high school in Manhattan Beach.

I just saw "Former Members of Oingo Boingo" Sunday. It's 90% of the original band, minus Elfman. They are awesome, and their replacement front man is really good.

I worked with them last week. And it kills me too... They were all such cool and humble guys, they didn't play to tracks or fake anything like so many new bands do nowadays, they just got out there and totally knocked it out of the park, they were so good. Then they played American Idiot, and It just took all the fun out of the show for me.

I think Tom Morello is the biggest sellout of them all. He is the machine, he's made MILLIONS in a country he bad mouths. He's still at it too, lol. F that guy for all the dumb shit he says. And he's a way overrated guitar player too...

It's been said that Ted Nugent would never get into the RRHOF because of his outspoken political beliefs, yet here we have RATM in the Rock Hall. Double standards I tell ya. That's why the RRHOF is s POS organization. They will put Queen Latifa in and not even consider the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent. What a joke...

I remember maybe 25 years ago seeing NOFX and Lagwagon at the Dragonfly club in Hollywood. I was a metal guy and wasn't expecting anything special. I couldn't believe how tight NOFX was, they were so good.. It's too bad Mike would rather talk instead of play... But that's the way they roll...

The Interrupters are a really good band even live. Tim Armstrong has been a driving force behind them. He actually introduced them and had them on stage with Rancid at their Surf City Blitz show that I was at 👍👍
