WELCOME TO RIVER DAVES PLACE

Most of the music I listen to is made by anti government socialist miscreants.

It is what it is, these delusional morons make the best music.

But punk rock isn’t all idiots.

On the road this morning. Music is on shuffle ALL. Every Bad Religion album is in the library. Haven’t heard this one in maybe 10 years as It was not favorited or in a specific playlist, however it is now.

Funny how these lyrics have new meaning as an adult. Made me smile. Good start to he week. We can turn things around.

Lyrics -

I don't need to be a global citizen
'Cause I'm blessed by nationality
I'm a member of a growing populace
We enforce our popularity
There are things that seem to pull us under, and
There are things that drag us down
But there's a power and a vital presence
That's lurking all around
We've got the American Jesus
See him on the interstate
We've got the American Jesus
He helped build the president's estate
I feel sorry for the Earth's population
'Cause so few live in the USA
At least the foreigners can copy our morality
They can visit, but they cannot stay
Only precious few can garner the prosperity
It makes us walk with renewed confidence
We've got a place to go when we die
And the architect resides right here
We've got the American Jesus (ah)
Bolstering national faith (ah, ah, ah)
We've got the American Jesus (ah, ah, ah)
Overwhelming millions every day (ah, ah)
He's the farmers' barren fields (in God)
The force the army wields (we trust)
The expression on the faces of the starving millions (because he's one of us)
The power of the man (break down)
The fuel that drives the Klan (cave in)
He's the motive and the conscience of the murderer (we can redeem your sin)
He's the preacher on TV (strong heart)
The false sincerity (clear mind)
The form letter that's written by the big computers (and infinitely kind)
The nuclear bombs (you lose)
The kids with no moms (we win)
And I'm fearful that he's inside me (he is our champion), yeah!
We've got the American Jesus
See him on the interstate (we've got the American Jesus)
We've got the American Jesus
Exercising his authority
We've got the American Jesus
Bolstering national faith (we've got the American Jesus)
We've got the American Jesus
Overwhelming millions every day (ah ah ah), yeah!
One nation under God
One nation under God
One nation under God

I saw them a couple times. I was never a huge fan but they tended be playing with other groups I liked. Here's another for you. Somebody on RDP once said these guys were left leaning libs but I always got the impression that they were more antiestablishment than anything else

Land of the free and we're united, make our destiny, we take control
Yeah, never divided, we got the power and we'll never be, divided we fall

Oh yeah, land of the free, free to conspire, control destiny
Oh yeah, you're gonna see, no use resistin'
You're livin' in the land of the free, free to control your life
Land of the free, free to control your mind, land of the free?

Land of the free, united nations of hypocrisy, profit's our goal
We're incorporated, it's big business and oil companies controlling us all

Oh yeah, land of the free, free to conspire, control destiny
Oh yeah, you're gonna see, no use resistin'
You're livin' in the land of the free, free to control your life
Land of the free, free to control your mind, land of the free?

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of hypocrisy
And to the republic for which it stands, one nation
Without liberty and justice for all

Land of the free, free to control your life, land of the free
Free to control your mind, land of the free, land of the free
Free to control your life, land of the free, free to control your mind
Land of the free?
Yeah, right

Another good one. Funny how a couple decades change the meaning of some of these songs.

There are a couple Rage Against The Machine songs Trump could open a rally with 🤣

Yea Pennywise are left leaning, but I’ve got every one of their albums too.

Want a scary one?? Just swap Jerry with Gavin. 😂

Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles and never frowns
Soon I will be president
Carter power will soon go 'way
I will be Führer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school
California, Über Alles
California, Über Alles
Über Alles, California
Über Alles, California
Zen's fascists will control you
Hundred percent natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face
Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big bro on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back, you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay
California, Über Alles
California, Über Alles
Über Alles, California
Über Alles, California
Now it is 1984
Knock, knock at your front door
It's the suede denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece
Come quietly to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes, here's a pretty flower
Die on organic poison gas
Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown
California, Über Alles
California, Über Alles
Über Alles, California
Über Alles, California

Ha, I know every member of the band, and regularly hang out with Byron(drummer) and his family, they are not left leaning.

Good. Great band and people do change. He said he’s a bleeding heart liberal in lyrics and then there is their song Fox TV. They didn’t name it MSNBC TV 😁

I will grant you a lot of this is simply anti war sentiment post 911.

Make way for the next sensation
Factual Manipulation
Stay tuned for the next creation
Department of misinformation
Arrogance that makes you shiver
Ignorance and we deliver
If truth doesn't count for something
I choose to believe in nothing
It's primetime for the middle class
You don't like it shove it up your ass
Fair and balanced perjury
And it's all on Fox TV
Delusion will rule day in this society
Intellectual property in bankruptcy
And you can't escape
We've been sold out
We can't get out
Lies sold tragedy all on your TV
Ready, go!
Fabricated journalism
Junk news and jingoism
Media's our new religion
The pulpit is your television
Got news and we're comin' at ya
Network TV propaganda
Our credibility is degrading
We're patriots for Nielsen ratings
It's primetime for the middle class
You don't like it shove it up your ass
Fair and balanced perjury
And it's all on Fox TV
Delusion will rule day in this society
Intellectual property in bankruptcy
And you can't escape
We've been sold out we can't get out
Lies sold tragedy all on your TV
It's primetime for the middle class

Yes, I believe each member has a PHD. I’ve seen them a few times and always great.

The left leaning band of this era is Social Distortion I believe. I’ve seen them a few times as well and don’t care for them. Not because of their politics but never a great live show.

Went to a Social D show at The Observatory (Galaxy) in Costa Mesa Pre Trump. It was an awesome show. One of the best I’ve been to honestly. Dude went off the deep end since 😂.

Agree they were traditionally not that great live though.

Isn't it funny that back in the day the anti-establishment group was against racism, now the new anti-establishment is for racism - separating every group and giving them special treatment and benefits because of the color of their skin, even though they have the same opportunities as everyone else.

I like SXDX live...I don't agree with Mike's politics but an amazing band that still puts out pretty good music every decade or so....can't say that about a lot of bands that have been around since late 70's.....

I've seen all of these bands more times than I can count on my two hands and feet growing up in SoCal. (These bands do not reflect my political opinion, nor would we vote for the same president) I love 90's and 2000's punk but the one that went off on the deep end was NOFX. I love the music, seen them more than a handful of times, but I saw a COVID special on YouTube. Fat Mike, he's always been a dick, but the purple hair dude is a liberal douche explaining his opinions between sets. I fully understand that punk is antiestablishment and antigovernment, but good music is always ruined with the sidebar comments made by the artist.

favorte punk / punkish bands - Pennywise, Offspring, Lagwagon, Bad Reigion, Face to Face, NOFX, Sprung Monkey, Unwritten Law, No Fun At All, Vandles, Guttermouth

The sad part is how smart Greg is but at the same time how willfully ignorant. He’s still playing sides and pointing fingers instead of realizing the tribal message in the song is a human condition. Our nature. On both sides of the stupid.

Definitely my hit list. We’re more punk than fat Mike. He’s a freak show conformist. Haha!

I guess I got more of the DIY minor threat spirit out of punk rock.

I completely agree. The context for me here is in the moment, but zooming out, you are right.

Love me some Smut Peddlers, they don't play the Southbay anymore, kind of a bummer. I run into Mike occasionally around here, but never at a SP show.

Anybody else got tics for Pennywise this weekend?

We had tics but a damn baby shower got in the way. Punk in the Park.

Last year it was great, Bad Religion, Vandals (Dead Kennedys were scheduled but Peligro died) Adolescents, Face to Face, Manic Hispanic, Subhumans, and FREE BEER!

We went to SD show here in Phoenix a couple of years ago. During the Kenyan years.

Anyhow… Mike was ranting and lecturing about racism between songs. I decided then I’m done paying to listen to that shit.

Still love SD music. Not interested in his ranting on racism

I had my daughter hooked on that song when she was 10. Drove my wife crazy. Lmfao!

She’d say “whateva” at any given opportunity. Haha! They were so much fun when they were little

I'll play

Let's have a war
So you can go and die!
Let's have a war!
We could all use the money!
Let's have a war!
We need the space!
Let's have a war!
Clean out this place!

And so we go, on with our lives
We know the truth, but prefer lies
Lies are simple
simple is bliss

Why go against tradition when we can Admit defeat
live in decline
Be the victim of our own design

The status quo, built on suspect
Why would anyone stick out their neck?

Fellow members of Club "We've Got Ours" - I'd like to introduce you to our host
He's got his, and I've got mine

Meet the decline

Someday someone somewhere somehow
is going to make you understand
These words will drill into your head
You undergo the process then
You will do anything they say
They will have power over you
You will not question their authority
ou know what they can do

I shake my head I don't know what to say
see my chance to turn and walk away
I will not be a part of this romance, I just can't take that chance because I see my opportunity to shout
The Last Goodbye

Big fan of Strung out. Been a fan since 96 or so when they played our backyard Halloween party. They’ve matured into a mix of punk & metal. Jason has some great solo country ish stuff too.

I'll play

Let's have a war
So you can go and die!
Let's have a war!
We could all use the money!
Let's have a war!
We need the space!
Let's have a war!
Clean out this place!

And so we go, on with our lives
We know the truth, but prefer lies
Lies are simple
simple is bliss

Why go against tradition when we can Admit defeat
live in decline
Be the victim of our own design

The status quo, built on suspect
Why would anyone stick out their neck?

Fellow members of Club "We've Got Ours" - I'd like to introduce you to our host
He's got his, and I've got mine

Meet the decline

Someday someone somewhere somehow
is going to make you understand
These words will drill into your head
You undergo the process then
You will do anything they say
They will have power over you
You will not question their authority
ou know what they can do

I shake my head I don't know what to say
see my chance to turn and walk away
I will not be a part of this romance, I just can't take that chance because I see my opportunity to shout
The Last Goodbye
Http404 and I were set to see Agent Orange in a week or two but the show was rescheduled to Feb 👍

I love PW, BR and SD, and Ive seen them all and then some. Ill say that PW and BR still put on a hell of a good show!!! Saw Offspring 2x and the music is still good but those guys look tired on stage.

I have seen SD all over and it was a goal of mine to see them once a year until I saw them in Vegas probably in 2017. Mike would not shut up talking politics between songs and totally killed the show. I remember leaving and thinking, I paid to hear you play music, not push your political feelings. Sadly, I havent even looked for a SD show since. Actually, I left a concert early that SD was headlining because I was over it.

We went to the Grove Amp Saturday saw Suicidal Tendencies. Was absolutely amazing. Rob Trujillo was there unfortunately he didn't come out and play. His son is the current bass player. This weekend is Punk in the park. Pennywise headliner one night Adolescents the other can't wait.

Make sure you download tickets onto your phone, tickets that can be scanned, or add them to your Apple wallet. Last year there was ZERO, and I mean ZERO cell service out there. People were stuck outside, it sucked lol.

This year they are supposed to have wifi.

It's a really good time and a great layout. Adolescents/Vandals had the biggest mosh pits ever - literally, it was the entire crowd! So much fun
