Same here. Maybe jobs are only on the hydros? @HBCraig
There are jibs on All Terrains (aka hydros) , crawlers, boom trucks, etc. On the smaller cranes they are mechanical jibs meaning you pin them at a certain offset and leave it. Hydros and crawlers have luffers that are infinitely adjustable via a hydraulic offset

Dozers and excavators look so cool when they're shiny and new! Even the pads on the tracks look detailed!

I just saw your response.... good to know. I work with cranes all the time and never knew anything about luffers. Then again, we typically only use small guys....

@HBCraig are you setting up the cranes on the 405?
No. A few are from my counterpart in a different division. The crawlers are small cranes that do specialty piling.

Are you talking about the cranes on the 405 in HB and Fountain Valley? That stretch?

Every Cab needs a Liebherr Beer Fridge ! How is the show going? Looks a bit thin? Maybe no waiting at Del Friscos then.. ;)

is this the usual time of year for Minexpo? World of Concrete was in June and it was a bust. Will be nice to get things back to normal again.

A bit slow. It's usually the fall of Conexpo year.

I will let you know about Del Friscos. Have an 8pm reservation

Who owns the truck? The Wind Generator Company or a Contracted Carrier? I would think if it were a Contract Carrier, they need a Long Term Contract to cover that investment?
In this case it's the transportation side of the crane service company. These particular trailers are purpose built "blade lifters"

Big bucks

I pass it on the 303 twice a day. Quite the operation going on over there.

Definitely something that will be going on for awhile too. What you are seeing is just the 1st phase of 3. Feel lucky sometimes with some of the projects I get to see in different parts of the country.

I know there is an entire steel fab yard on site.

I thought about you yesterday when looking for a PU on FB. A video came up of an incredible Transport of a Monster Dump Truck being Trailered.

Have you heard of Membay's Transport and Crane Co.?

Over 40 years I have built a lot of big commercial and industrial stuff and always loved the big boy toys but this mining stuff cant be captured by pictures.

Absolutely amazing feats of manufacturing! I could look at this stuff for hours, thanks for sharing

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take someone to get certified to operate that type of crane?...
And also, how long before they are "proficient" and truly good at operating that thing?
Probably a couple of months to study up then take the certification test.

Guys that operate the big iron proficiently have been doing it 7 to 8 years at least.
