I finally have both a little time and $$ and want to visit so many cities and burbs. Need RV suggestions. I have narrowed it down to class C. Need to sleep 5 ( tight is ok). Thinking overhead cab for 2, back end, 2...and dinette 1. 24-25 ft too park on a city street if necessary. Been looking at benz van or transit front. However, a rig that tows a 6,000 lb 28 ft, trailer and boat dry, would be a cherry on top. Is there such a beast? Chevy van front with a 8.1 496??? Am I making shit up?

The V-10 Fords are pretty decent with towing. I haven't seen an 8.1 in a class C though. Some of the "Flair" type class A's though are little stubby bastards with 8.1's. Rare birds, but I have seen both Duramax and Powerstroke class C's.

The Sprinter coaches are pretty nice, and fairly squared away. Decent mileage too. The only catch, I've only seen them towing a Smart car or a SxS. I don't know what they can tow.

Class c towing 6k ? Most are almost to capacity with a full tank of fuel, water and 4 people.
I’m thinkin a 496 won’t fit in a gm van cab and those were about done around 2010.
Ford v10’s gained an extra valve around 2006.
Some of those shorty motorhomes had rear end gears that weren’t all that great for towing but give marginally better fuel economy….

Mine is a diesel pusher and they call it a 30’er.. I haven’t measured it but i would guess it to be 34’ish..

That said it checks everyone of your boxes and has a triple bunk setup (as well as a cab over electric bed with a center entry).

If ya want the details let me know.. the only reason I’m considering selling it is I want a two bathroom now so I don’t have to put shorts on when I take a piss in the middle of the night. Lol

If your heart is set on a big block gas engine, space isn't a primary consideration, look at some of the large truck campers. The top of the line slide-ins have a decent amount of room. I've looked at a couple and it's like a tardis inside, way bigger on the inside than out.

With a crew cab dually you can still haul 5 people around and towing is for sure possible.

I have had several RVs with the Ford chassis and V10 combo. They all did great. I never towed anything over 5k lbs because I didn't need to. My chassis had a capacity to tow about 6500 lbs but I had a 5k lb hitch on it. Get the gross GVW minus its weight and that will give e you an idea. Many times these number are posted in the bedroom.closet

I know there have been issues with the Chevy Workhorse combo with a few buddies.

I'm not a mathematician but even i know some boxers to keep Frank and beans out of sight is less expensive than a new motorhome.

I’m looking for something similar. A smaller class C that I can launch and retrieve with.

Nice! And just what I’m looking for. I might wait a bit and see if some of these prices come down in the next few months.
