It wasn't a joy ride Billdo.. Lol. We spent about an hour on the water to get everything I needed done.
You're a hollow shell of the RD I once knew.

I just repeated what the owner told me.. Had a motor problem on one side and it still turned 178.. Whether that's true or not I dunno? I wasn't there. Gary was so I will give him a call and see what's up.
Other then that, I went and looked at the boat today and we buzzed it around pleasant a little bit I don't really know a lot about the history of it..

Hi Dave Rique and I ran the boat together at LOTO and during the shootout we only got 137/138 out of it but there was a lot going on however during testing everything synced up and we ran the big number I thought it was 187 but I'll agree to 178 as I honestly don't remember but I do remember we danced it all over the place and really don't know how I gathered back up. That's the whole story and my brother-in-law has a video of it out of shape

Hey Dave, any word of him bringing it to desert storm?Little teaser of a boat That Tommygun and I are taking out tomorrow. Doing a feature on it for the owner.

Shit... just figured out who it was with Shanklin at the races! Heya Tommy! Sorry I didn't recognize you behind the rug on your face.
Ran that good huh?
Well we didn't "wind it out" but we did make a quick pass just running through the gears.

So if you are asking me, it was different then anything I have ever been in, and there's a cool factor of up shifting that almost can't be matched.. . It will be interesting to see what kind of rumors this little clip brings.. Lol.

Holly shit! I'm not a real big engine guy, but is that one engine running a little rich? Or am I an idiot?
That is pretty bad ass. So, is it electronic shifting and do you have to back off the throttles manually or is that part of the shifting mechanism? Seems like adding more things to do at high speeds... Already have a driver and throttle man and they have their hands full in these big boats adding another thing to watch and remember to do just increases the responsibility for each.
I have driven boats my whole life. performance boats the last 12 years. I have had this question forever. Why don't we run transmissions? even a 2 speed power glide would help out, not only for top end but also for cruising and saving RPMs and gas. Explain to me the downsides of this.

It's all electronic.. You push the button and it does everything.

Better rich then lean.. All of them smoke a little when they are under load at WOT.. They both are about the same on the big screen. That's a cell phone cap of a video on a screen so you are missing a lot of detail.
Write uP?
I'm working on it Joe.. I just finished the actual video etc..
I'll start a new thread this afternoon with the write up video etc..

Cool bro. Don't forget to finish my widgets. It will be a year here pretty quick!
See ya at DS for sure.
Much like your positions on the BLM, you are all kinds confused Joe.. You gave those things to me right before the Enduro (along with the Enduro sponsor packet).. That's 5 not 12, and being they were on the free, it's kinda when I get around to it kinda deals.

Gotcha. Makes sense. This is why I posted that. I learnded something new today. Lol!What you are seeing is "power enrichment AFR" as the throttle is applied after each shift, and the motor goes back under boost from a closed / reduced throttle state. Notice that once the boost comes up after each shift, the smoke is gone. Think of an accelerator pump on a carburetor, shot of fuel when the throttle is mashed down, engine catches up to the rich intake "shot" as RPM's accellerate and then the WOT AFR under load stabilizes
I dunno what you are talking about Roy.. As far as looks go next to Romer's old Skater it's my favorite looking one.

That's what can happen when you are out of control.I was joking. I think the boat is awesome.
The name is upside down.

So I understand that rational, but what about the fact that most of us don't go WOT all the time and are simply cruising from one end of the lake up river. What if you could shift to a gear that drops the RPM 1500. You are maintaining cruising speed and saving 10 gallons an hour per engine. The reason we dont see too many 2/3 speeds in boats is because of 4 main reasons...
- Most of us do not have enough power to warrant it. Lets use the following as an example...we have a boat with a 1:1 engine-to-drive ratio...each time the motor does 1 revolution, so does the prop. Now lets say we have a nice 800 hp motor that has a redline of 6500 rpm. Now, lets assume that we can turn a 30" prop at redline. If we went up to a 32, we find that the motor cannot turn it past 5600 because it does not have enough hp/torque. We can easily spin a 28 though. The point is that the engine can just barely turn the 30 right to redline...but it can do it well enough. Now, lets say we have a transmission which lets us drop the final gear ratio from 1:1 (mentioned earlier) to 0.80 : 1 So now every rev of the engine gives us 1.2 revs of the prop. The engine has less leverage against the prop...which is the exact same situation as just running the 32...motor cannot do it.
- Space...a transmission will take up space.
- Cost.
- More parts.
Benefits of a transmission are that you can turn a big prop slower in and around the dock. Instead of turning 1:1 like in my example, you can now downshift to reduce your prop speed for a given engine rpm. So you can have a big huge prop, and not go a million miles an hour when idling.

Well there's more to it then that, the main thing being if one of those things pops outta gear at speed you aren't gonna live to talk about it etc.. One breaks etc.. ]
