When we were raising our son I would go to work early. 6 to 4ish. I would deal with the ball practices etc... My wife would go to work later. She would get there at 9ish and home about 6. I would usually help with any homework and get dinner ready. Then eat as family.

My wife and I both work from home remotely. I travel 1-2 weeks a month right now. She travels 1 week a quarter. We have 1 son who is 6 and in kindergarten. My wife is a director for boot barn. She works usually 50 hours a week. We split the household duties to some degree.

I handle all the finances, shopping, cooking, cleaning. She does the bed time routine and I do bath time. Lately she has been taking him to school and I do the pick up and after school activities, karate soccer ect. She handle those too depending on my meeting schedule.

She makes way way more money than I do so if we were to be a single income it would be hers. All her friends and sister are SAHM now. They don’t have the extras, what I mean by that. We have a rental properties, toys, vacations, nice things. Those that have single incomes that are our friends for the most part don’t have any extra money.

My wife doesn’t seem to understand that if she becomes a stay at home mom it’s not 10 hours a day of 90 day fiance and sleeping. I would expect her to take care of the household. She can’t cook so that is a problem!

Open a Business. She doesn’t need benefits?
No, I have a full benefits package through my work.

Most SAHM ran businesses are hobby businesses. Printing, cottage bakery, engraving etc. not real money makers. Unless the husband has a lot of money and pays to support her business just to get her out of his hair, I’ve seen that first hand lol.

We’re still figuring it out but this our situation:

My wife has been an RN the last 6 years and we just had our first child 3 months ago. My inlaws are both retired and volunteering to watch our child during the days she works (3 days a week, 12 hour shifts) which is great but my wife does not want to go back to work. She has a cousin and a few close friends that are SAHM and she wants to join the coffee and cackling club…. Lol

My dad always told me, once you let them stop working they’ll never go back, which is my fear.

Luckily, her hospital is very flexible so she can stay on “full time” and still only work 1-2 days a week instead of 3. Part time would be similar.

I told her she's going back for at least 1-2 days a week so she can at least keep her license active and her job… but we’ll see.

Stay tuned and good luck!

Ya that's how my wife ended up as a school nurse. At first it was it was a cut but now she makes more then she ever did in the ICU. Although she was not one to pull OT. She would 100% be a SAHM, but it's just something I can't get on board with. I make good money but I'm not replacing the 6 fugues and great healthcare benefits she has. On top of the pension. School nurse was a pretty good compromise, she gets a ton of time off to be with the kids, and only works 7 hours a day.

All my kids are in their 20's now but we made it plus we home schooled. My wife is an attorney and once we had baby #1 she cut back to two days a week. She works for her Dad so the Boss had an interest in the child care. The two days she was at work my Mother in Law had the kids, she also was a teacher back in the day and has a masters in special ed, so it was perfect for my boys :) We had a great set up as we live across the street from my in laws so the kids never got carted off anyplace.
