Brother driving our 18' Baker tunnel! Hours and years of refurbishment but there's nothing like it!
The smile on his face says it all!!

View attachment 884082 I have a Lavey 18'10" mod VP. The sebring was a larger boat that came a bit later I believe.

I've only had mine for a few years, but it is a very good boat. Mine is a fairly heavy layup I think and its rock solid....no flex at all. I put a transom in it...probably about twice or 3 times as stout as it was originally, and that likely contributes. Mine runs a bit over 80 with an old 200hp merc and turns like a slot car. I've never driven a stoker or Baker or I can't really compare.

For sale, if anyone is interested...

Now that Mercury has absorbed BRP, there are no longer 2 strokes being made. This puts our boats in Jeopardy because there are no longer light, fast outboards being made for the Mod VP's and I can see our boats becoming more rare and rare as motors start dying. I know my boat would NOT like a 500lb 4 stroke on back.
What’s the weight difference between a newer Evinrude (BRP) 250 and a 300r? Besides some cubic dollars but that’s a different convo

Not much...if any. The Gen 1 E-tecs were light enough to run on a small boat, but the Gen 2 E-tecs are 500ish lbs like everything else. Luckily, I have 2 complete spare 2.4L powerheads and another 3 blocks (bridgeport, XR-4, and a Mod VP) and a couple sets of sleeves to keep mine alive until well after I die...or they outlaw 2 strokes

BRP stopped making outboards but the G2 wasn't light anyway. I wouldn't be afraid to run a four stroke, they're a little heavier but they run well. For the smaller boats, a 150 ProXS or 175 ProXS is decent, the bigger boats can run the V8. A solid option is the 225 V6 and you can add the V8 Merc Racing lower mounts, the new torque master and it's not that heavy, about 480 Lbs.

I ran an Allison Grand Sport with a slightly modified Mercury 150 four stroke ( ProXS upper mounts, custom cone) and it ran 80 MPH.

would agree 100% with the above, proper setup, this boat is retired now but during its development we found that adding 12 pounds to back side of the bow eye made all the difference counteracting 505 LBS of four stroke Yamaha. there is no transom with less width than a Sleekcraft, its tiny back there. This boat was incredible in the rough, not my words, but others I passed. Barco lounger was one term, LOL This boat was intended to run on the pad 10.5 inches wide, only using the sponsons for support as they ran dry letting air to escape from the tunnels. counter intuitive I know, but it worked. Apparently safe as I never went on my head.

We raced a little Lavey in 1985 with a 2.6 Johnson, fast, but very unforgiving in corners. The owner of Lavey at the time was Dale Clark, the boat was in its early development stages, thinking we had the second one from the mold. Boat made the cover of Speed and Spray in 1985. Don't know where Dale is today
Which one was it? I believe I know who owns the 2nd Seabring made as well. Obviously I know where the first one made is at.

I raced that Orange and black one for a couple of years when Jimmie Harris Owned it. We partnered up to run
the Parker Enduro back in 85' and 86' and other races at Lake Ming, San Diego, Havasu during those years. We had a Yamaha
on it at that time. Ran 102 as i remember and fun as hell. I was starting a business those years so i couldn't fully committ
to race full time. We also had Bill Olsen as one of the drivers for the Enduro. Stayed with Bill at his house and got to hear
all his great stories of his dad and himself racing.

1991 Laveycraft Sebring 20.8 and we still have it. Phased out of the popular choice by our newer to us Essex Sterling. We've owned this boat since 2004 with the intent to restore as it was previously owned by a father who let his teenage kid abuse it. Problem is it's not really worth pouring money into so It sits in a storage unit at the Rio.

Ahh ok. From what I was told Lavey had at least 3 entries in the '85 Parker race. All 3 Sebrings built differently. My uncle's, hull #1, is laid up very heavy, The other one I know, which I was told was #2, is laid up extremely light. As in the don't dare even lean on the deck type light. The last I heard it was still owned by a friend of a friend, @Hammer may know if they still own it as I heard they were thinking of selling it. The other boats from the race I do not know what happened to them unfortunately.

Any history on this hull / builder?
[/QUOTE
I bought it without motor from an old sst120 racer named Lee Holden. He worked on outboards out of his garage in the sfv. Somehow he and a builder got involved together to build it. Not sure if it was a new mold build or what. Shit went south between them and Lee got the boat
. Then I got it.

The reason I ask, is i've tried tracking down some info on them, my dad has had this one since 97 i think. Its the 20' GMT hull. Its also running your trailers twin as well.

GMT and CMT are not the same builder. GMT stands for Gilbreth Marine Technology. Jerry Gilbreth was the man behind the curtain, Greg Foster the man behind the wheel in the MOD VP races back in the 80's.

I would have to ask Lee Holden about the boat since he had something to do with the builder and mine. I would think with the amount of gel coaters on this forum that there would be someone would remember this

Correct, no question there. So my dads boat is marked CMT on the HIN, but is 100% a splash or popped out of a GMT 20 mold.

I don't know who CMT was, but that is the Bahner tunnel and deck. Rod Bahner was out of business by 1993, Old Rigger might know who ended up with the mold.
Yes transom is very unique

That was also their jet tunnell drag boat. The set back area was originally for the pump.
Gotcha. Kinda what I was figuring since the bottom of that set-back isn't notched. Would be kinda cool to see someone modify that hull to do so.

I’ve done lots of Stokers but these aren’t familiar? I’ll ask the old man later.

Splash or modification of a mach 1 tunnel or maybe a southwind tunnel? They both were early mfgs. Of tunnel hulls w/the transom ext. Similar to that.

Yea, my dad always thought it was similar to a stoker, but never could find the right match for it until I saw those pics of Jeff's GMT 20' in the thread I linked.

I had one...and until I replaced it with my lavey, I had no idea what was missing. It ran ok in a straight line, but not great. Wouldn’t turn for shit. The transom is crap because there is no structure all the way across. I broke mine...pushed the transom off the tops of the tunnels. I ended up getting rid of the pod. The Lavey is better in every respect.

Loved my Sebring.... wish I could find it... a friend saw it in a Havasu boat dealer about 15 years ago

Had an '85 Rude 235 we affectionately named "Ollie The Outboard Dragonfly" (spinoff from the Rescuers "Evinrude The Outboard Dragon Fly")

In perfect conditions (slight wind chop, into the wind and Coolchange in the back seat) it ran a legit 80.. otherwise not near that, but a great slalom ski boat

Looking to pick this up from a buddy this weekend 🤞 @Bullet28 did you run yours on the delta? How is it for a smaller boat down there? If I get this thing I'm planning on dragging it over for Hookie Day.
