I remember your truck club names and remember going to Devore. Wasn’t that truck around new years weekend ? All I remember is that it was so cold. I was in Little Mother Truckers
I was cold. we had a circus tent set up for our club to party in, I can't remember where I slept, but I recall I had company. :)

That’s where I was at. Driving one again at 40yrs old was always wondering if I was going to blow a bag or if compressors were going to work ok. Everything was new but still…….. quality ain’t what it used to be.
I carried blocks of wood pre cut so i could limp the truck home or get it on a trailer in case i had a bag failure.

I built this one a few years ago. I’ve always been a cal look bug guy, but thought a mini truck would be fun.
You need to Alloys on that thing, and you'll be hitting both scenes. I was always a VW guy, never had a mini truck, but if I did, it would have Alloys on it. I always loved it when I saw them on a truck.

I can assure you the glamour is gone man. And prices being jacked up is because everyone our age is trying to relive their youth just like Fox Body mustangs.

Truck Runs were such a "coming of age" for me as well. Ill never forget it. Some of the first times I stayed alone in a motel away from home. LOL....our clubs were like family. Just amazing times.

I get it, we will always love it! But that ship has sailed!
I was in the VW scene, and same here, first time staying alone was at VW shows. Actually first time in a hotel, was when my parents and my friends parents let us do a VW caravan from So Cal to Vegas. By the time we got Vegas I think we had about 100 VW's.
All those people took care of the 3 16 y/o kids on that trip. Bonus was one of the Bikini models, got stranded and we took her home to OC. We were convinced we were getting some, but nope, LOL.

Exactly! My era was pre-internet thank god!
A good friend of mine did write a book. Robert came around near the end of my run as a mini trucker but I did make the book. Worst part is my mom read it before I did. She told my dad after reading it, "my god Jerry is that all they did was get drunk and take their dicks out". I read it in one night with tears running down my face because of how much I forgot. I think you can get it online for free now. Its called Local Finesse Road to Ruins. If you lived through the hey day of mini trucks in the 80's and 90's its worth checking out.

I totally understand. No way I would pay today's pricing for one. But if the right deal comes along then I would try driving one to work for a while and give the old D-max a break. By no means do I want to get back into that lifestyle. I have a ton of friends from that era that still eat sleep and breath it and all of them were at the Avi this weekend. I would much rather go boating or riding in the desert or stay home. I guess I have grown up just a little bit.

My question is I wonder how many times some of were in the same exact place 30+ years ago? Or if any of us know each other from back then?

Anyone remember the shows they had during the day at the Mickey Thompson races at Anaheim Stadium? There was a truck during the day and your show entry got you 2 tickets to the race that night. It was like one of the coolest events because you had pretty much your entire peer group at the same event and all sitting together.

I can 100% assure you we were at some of the same runs at the same time!

I grew up in Vegas. My last club was NuTrendz (Smaller) and rolled often with Banzai Cruisers.

Remembering getting absolutely obliterated drunk at the runs. Drinking 40oz Olde English, or other horrible decisions! My first run and the initiations. WOW.

Hate that I really don't have any pics! I guess that's a good thing.

Man, I miss cruising the strip growing up. What a site to see! You would start at Sahara, and just jam packed until past Stardust, and you flip around. My truck had a snug, hit so freaking hard. I'm surprised I have any hearing left.

I remember going to the truck runs at LA Paz and after that in Laughlin.

I was 1 of a few that brought a boat. Forget the other guys name. He had a silver slammed navigator and a orange Howard cat. Few years later he was camped at Naci.

I recall having a line of chick's waiting to go on a boat ride.

This is PURE perfection of how an Era correct Hardbody Mini should be. Static Drop, Period Correct Rims, Snug (try finding one of those now!). Graphics, I need one of these just to look at and polish!

My step brother's looked exactly like this but in Red in 1987. As we approached 1990 it got those dumb wide rims with little tires stretch on it look. I was not a fan of that look and like this much better.

I'm gonna have to dig out some pics of my Nissan, I went the poor man route and just cranked down the torsion bars with stock chrome wheels. But, I did have 2 JL 18's in the bed and 4 Cerwin Vega 10's behind the seat. In a 5 speed regular cab, that thing was a super tight on the interior but the girls loved it! That thing would make your eyes blur when the bass hit

Drove the 40 yesterday back to socal. A bunch of them were on the road. Pretty cool to see. The one that caught are eye was a bagged suzuki samurai so clean. I have never seen one bagged like this before. All black being towed.

The best part of the mini truck scene in the 80’s and 90’s was it was like a bad movies version of a gang lol. Meaning, every race was involved. You’d go to these runs and it was black white asian Hispanic islander guys / girls. The sport transcended race or economic background. Everyone was into it and there was a cool innocence about it. Simpler times. A lot of fun.

I remember going to a resolutions run when they did one at piru lake. I slept in my el Camino and it rained. It was pretty miserable but so much fun! I was like 17 😂😂

first truck run I ever attend was at La Paz in Parker--Spring Splash 1994. So much fun! I slept under my tonneau cover the first night but truck club found me the second night and wrapped me in plastic wrap and drug me around to every campsite. By the time the night was over I was drunk off my ass and covered in ketchup, mustard and god knows what else. good times. lol

This exactly. Rarely did I see fights. Lots of cultural appropriations and a general mood of fun had by all.

I recall 1 of the runs. My buddy towed my tahiti to la Paz with his old Southwind motor home. I passed out on the drive and woke up there. We never stopped for food. Had nothing all weekend. We only had a lot of beer and alcohol. I couldn't eat another corn dog from that vendor if I was starving. I slept in my boat.

4.3 v6 in a manual transmission. Those were a blast. Same goes for the ford 4.0L. The ranger was always more of a lifted truck to me. The s10 was the one you bagged. I would love to have a black 4.3l s10 on bags to just cruise around.

I went to school w Alex (the dad ) - Hoppo’s
that’s his son running the shop now in ontario

way back, Red’s was winning all the comps. So Alex and friends went shopping from trains in walnut, springs and batteries, plus figuring out pump combo’s dumps etc. finally he started to get wins and eventually started hoppo’s
alex had a dope ass mini blazer, candy paint, gold Dayton’s, chrome and gold everything. Winnie the Pooh on the back. He ran with low rider car club “ Groupe“

Had an '81 VW Rabbit Diesel Pickup.
Scirocco 14" aluminum wheels.
Injector pump turned up.
Kustom cold air intake.
Muffler deleted.
Snug top like shell and carpet kit.
Pioneer super tuner (III?)
Ridiculous fuel mileage, a fire breathing 52 hp.
An 18' Eliminator jet bote dwarfed that little caddy. Probably broke all the towing laws, except the 55 mph with a trailer law...

Same color as this one -

I had a black 92 S10 extended cab, dropped on Welds skinny in the front wide in the back with a cutout in the exhaust. God that thing was loud lol. I sold that one and bought a new white extended cab 98 S10 with the 4.3 manual, and dropped it on billet 17's. I gotta go find the old picture album of my trucks lol

A friend had one, circa 84' and we were cruising one night and got pulled over.

The truck was stuffed full of girls and open containers with a case of Bud in plain sight (nowhere to stuff it).

The cops poked their heads inside and asked my friend to turn the system up (it was built), and they asked a bunch of other questions about the truck,.

They said cool truck; have a good night!

He was legend after that lol
