We are finally going to go with a mini split in our little garage out in havasu. It’s about a 700sqft space. I’m not going to tackle this on my own so we will have it installed. Any reputable brands the brain trust suggests?

We have a 30amp outlet on the outside of the garage I assume can bring 220v through that? On a 120 degree day I’d like to have it whatever temp I want it so oversized works too..

What ballpark all in cash will this set me back? Don’t worry I’m holding on to my hat of course :) IMG_2070.png

I did a mini split in Utah here. Summers are 110-115 regularly. I did a 24k system from Home Depot. I had mine installed and had to do a sub panel upgrade. All in I was 5k for it.

I can get it to high 60’s when it’s 115 out. Has an app too so you can program a schedule or turn it on remotely from your phone.

Very happy with it!

With no experience what so ever in AC or mini splits. I’m thinking a 2 ton unit would be my go to. That 30 amp plug is going to need another hot leg added if it’s not already 240volt. Im guessing 2k as a rough estimate minus the electrical for a no name unit. Of course that could very and go way up with an energy star rated unit.

Following as I’d like to install a couple units as well.

That’s impressive. I need to run one in Havasu in Summer. I’d really love to figure out how to run one on solar in the storage unit. We don’t have perm power so it’s limited.

$1,398 for the Hessaire 2ton unit. Tons of good reviews.

Yep Ashley and I have the same units except his is a 1.5 ton and mine is 2ton. Both crank!!! Best thing I did to my garage. And in the winter I had it at a nice 73 in there.

*** basically stays at 73 year round.

Local supply house carries Fujitsu in stock. Just left a customer house. Had my HVAC Guy install a small one today. I ran all the electric to it. They wanted it installed in April but decided yesterday to do asap as there Baby arrived.

There is a Daiken location close but they will only sell them to certified Daiken companies. Or you can buy online but quite a bit more expensive when I price checked. HVAC guy I just built a house for has a account there.

Samsung was another option.

Brands like Seville and Mr cool are cheaper when you buy the kit. This house picked Mr cool but upgraded as no Mr cool in stock.

My price was $2450 installed no power.

That would be a game changer for you wipe down. Has anyone done that in the storage yet? I like the idea of storage. I’d assume that you’d want a bit of insulation on the walls and ceiling.

No, all the electrical is on a timer. 😉. There’s no meter so we’re not supposed to have anything on. I haven’t looked into it but there have to be options.

Gotcha hence the reason for solar system as well for power.

Fuk, you got me looking for the remote now.

We have a 3 car 750 ft. garage in Havasu and had a 2 ton unit installed last year for about $4,500 and they ran the power from one side of the house to the other (where the panel is) completely within the attic. Nothing exposed inside or out except what is shown in the pics less a small LB and 3 foot conduit above the panel. It’s a Mitsubishi and is web enabled and (if I can find it) came with a remote.

Honestly it will drop the garage to close to 60 when it’s 120 out. Could not be happier with it.

One of the best improvements we’ve done so far.

Edit: it was All American that did it. They’ve been to our place 3 times now and do good work at a reasonable price. https://allamericanairlhc.com/

Your hired Nic when will you be in havasu haha. So I assume with that unit a 25amp/10AWG circuit to a junction box would be the electric need?

I ran 10 gauge wire from the panel to the disconnect on a 20 amp breaker and 20 amp fuse in disconnect. They had 1 space left in panel. They recently had solar installed and I was surprised they didn't update the main panel. It's just for the master bedroom.

I have had him install several other Fujitsu units. This was the first 110 unit. It was only 17 seer but with solar there not concerned. The other ones had to be 22 seer to meet title 24 on new builds.

I can sell HVAC all day but getting the guys to install is tough. He was supposed to be on the job I just pulled up to. I mentioned I was headed here to work trying to convince him to do the same but he said next week. Tomorrow he has another install.

I have 3 other jobs with units sitting there waiting on him. If I could get him to Parker I would be adding 2 to my river pad.

I added a 2 ton Panasonic to our master ( thinking if power goes out I can power it w/ a generator ) it’s like 20 amps !

So far one of the best upgrades !
Want to chill the room to meat locker temperature & then sleep under an electric blanket ! No Problem…

I had my buddy do mine last summer.... as usual, went a little overkill on it. 3 Ton LG unit with 2 heads to cool my 3 car RV with 15 ft ceilings.
Doors are insulated. Removed the swamp cooler that I hardly ever used from the rear of the 50 ft deep RV lane. Had the heads installed around 11ft up the 15 foot wall.
Gets cold AF in there. No problem getting it down to 70 on 110* days. Prob could have gotten away with 2 Ton unit, but Fuck it... didn't want to have too little cold air.

Also has heat pump for winter. Never got cold enough over this past winter for me to turn it on. Have some fancy remotes as well.
Will make cleaning the boat so much nicer this summer.

Do a 24k btu at Home Depot for 1600$ and install yourself it’s a few hours max. I’ve installed quite a few of them, need a 3” hole saw, and some flaring tools unless you choose to just wrap the lines before the unit.

I'm using the largest 220Volt AC window unit. 600sf with 10.5’ ceiling. Cools 115F down to 60’s in 10-15 minutes. I run it at 75F, and its already turned on a few times. 😁 I installed it in 2005, and replaced this year, because the display doesn't work. It still blows, cold, but I can't adjust it. On or off only. New one is wifi compatible, so I can get alerts.

Keep in mind, when you over size an AC unit it cools to fast and doesn't remove humidity properly.
A 1 ton unit is rated for 400 sq foot.

Who's the local distributor (around Torrance I'm assuming)? Are they contractor only?

I'm looking at doing mini splits at my house and Fujitsu was one of the brands I've been leaning towards...

RSD across from Spearmint rhino. Have to have HVAC license though. All the local distributors are like that. I explained by law I can bid 2 or more trades. But they won't budge. I can ask my Guy he will be here at my house in about 5 minutes.

Mitsubishi, LG, Daikin, AC Pro, are the brands we like. AC Pro is a Chinese unit but we have a distributer in town and they have WiFi.

We switched to LG recently because they have better pricing, and their units are real nice.... Most are missing the WiFi option, but we have a couple of add-ons to convert them to Wifi

My guys are pretty good at these and they can run the electrical also. Give me a call and we can do it all for you

I have a pair of AC Pro (33600BTU/Hr each or 2.8Ton) in the Havasu RV garage. They work fine and have WiFi.

Just make sure your walls and garage doors are insulated or you are just burning money. I had a guy spray attic insulation in my garage and I did the doors myself. Had catching air install a ac pro split for my garage. It's about 1100 sq ft. I could hang meat in it during summer months.

I've installed 4 different mini splits. All Fujitsu. 2 - 2 tons for the garage in Havasu, and 2 - 2 tons for another house that had an old 8.0 seer 4 ton unit that you'd have to run all day to keep up. They are great units. For what you are doing a single 2 ton unit would be perfect. I think you be good with many of the major brands. I'm guessing you'll pay $4-6K installed. A unit is at least $2500 plus misc parts, line set, condensate, control wiring, power wire, breaker, disconnect and labor.
