I have a few M18 tool in my shop/garage. I have had a Stihl chainsaw forever but I only use it maybe once a year. I'm thinking about getting a M18 saw for occasional use. Anyone own one or use one? The gas for once a year use is a PIA for me.

Guarantee it's kick ass, everyone that has used new battery chainsaws for pight and occasional use say they work fantastic. Especially if you already have batteries for the same brand of tool.

IMO Milwaukee has the best battery tool lineup on the market

I have the M18 Hex impact, 1/2" impact, leaf blower, palm sander and 4" angle grinder.....I think the chain saw would be a good fit. I really like the Stihl I have, I have them on all of my fire trucks also. BUT gas is a PIA

A year ago I bough a little 10" Makita chain saw to add to my collection of shop tools and yard implements. I've got larger chain saws, but I use the shit out of this little one because it's so easy to one hand it when I'm up in a tree. Most of the branches and limbs I'm dealing with are under 3", so I really don't need a larger one and if so I've got it covered. I also find it really handy for cutting up the branches so I can fit them in my yard waste bins.

I have the Dewalt. It works well for branches up to 2 1/2". Definitely not comparable to my gas Saws. But the ease of use can't be compared. Both my gas are few years old now and a pain in the ass to start because they sit majority of the time.

I have the saw in question. It’s been a great saw especially for light duty trimming, dealing with fallen branches etc. I’ve not tried cutting down a full tree or cutting up a fallen tree. But for the occasional use stuff it’s been great

I used the 16' yesterday, very impressed.
Small Oak Tree, hard wood, 10" rounds, cut through like butter.

We talked about electric chain saws a few years ago at the fire academy. Figured they would be the future of ventilation in the fire service. No fuel, no mix and no spark. Don’t have to worry about whether they will start or not? The academy is in the process of buying a couple of Stihl battery saws now to introduce the students to. I’m buying a Milwaukee one for my personal use as I have many batteries already.

My last type 1 engine had a lot of M18 stuff on it, mainly lighting. The big tripod lights are great as scene lights up here in the mountains on vehicle accidents.

Yep. No cords or loud generators! Take them where you need them.

I have the 6”, 12 volt one and it kicks ass. I was cutting up 6”x 8” lumber for a campfire with it.

I have Milwaukee M18 Fuel tools. I don't have the chainsaw though.

I will say I wanted a leaf blower for the RV, so I bought the M18 Fuel one. Christ, it was as powerful as any leaf blower I have ever used. It was too much for what I wanted for the RV, so I took it back and bought the small M18 one.

I do have the M18 circular saw, and it cuts beams and everything else as good as any power saw I have used. I bet the chainsaw will kick ass.

I bought one a couple months ago. Haven't even taken it out of the box. But I did buy a milwaukee weed wacker which for the same reason what a PITA they are to start every time I want to use it. If it's anything as good as the weedwacker, the chainsaw is gonna be awesome.

We use the 16” ones at work. They chew through power poles pretty easily. We’ve never had any issues other than they can blow through batteries pretty quick with extended use unless you get the big 12ah ones. But it’ll chunk out a 50’ pole without pause. It does still need bar oil though. I had to have a conversation with an apprentice about how just because it’s electric doesn’t mean fluid free.

FYI Home Depot has the chainsaw and circ saw combo as a deal of the day today for $499 with two 6AH batts. Good until midnight tonight I believe.

That's a good deal. That circular saw is badass and those new 6.0HO's are supposed to be pretty sweet too.

Ya, I got the circ saw about a yr ago and was somewhat skeptical. The first day I used it I took my two corded craftsman's out of the cabinet and give them to a coworker. I was damn surprised.

I wish I had a need for the chainsaw, I'm sure it's good as well.

I could never justify the cost of the M18 system for what I do so I have stuck to the M12 platform for work (hvac service) and already had a Ryobi set retired to home duty so that's what I have there. Great stuff for home use, but doesn't really hold a candle to the M18 stuff on a jobsite.
