I’ve never seen so much military action in havasu. The past week has been busy with Hughes, Apaches, twin blade transport, and albatross flying really low. I have a video of the big transport twin blade helicopters flying over the refuge about 150 feet.

I saw the helicopters flying out today following the river south. Always gives me goosebumps to see the power of our military.

Twin blade transport = Chinook. They are pretty vintage by now.

National Guard training day?

A couple of weeks ago there was a MI-24 Hind flying over the channel. Weird to see Soviet hardware making a low pass over the water.

No, it was a corvette🤣

I believe it was a C17, vertical wingtips? Not quite the XXL version, but we haven't had anything quite that big for a while here.
Yeah, most likely a C17. The C5 is bigger and not as nimble as the C17 so it doesn't often get flown as low and as "aggressively" as the C17.

This was pretty aggressive for a boxcar. Some pics on FB with it and cows...and the cows weren't flying.

Saw 4 of them lift of yesterday as we rolled past the airport after 700 miles. I tipped my hat back at them for the nice gesture.

simplest way to identify while in flight is that the C17 has winglets pointing up, while the larger C5 does not.

Nellis, Luke and MCAS Yuma make a nice triangle.

Havasu has a contract to refuel military aircraft and they stop for lunch.

Was shooting at the Arizona State Trap Championships in Tucson last week. In years past we would see hundreds of A-10 tank busters doing low level stuff all day and most of the night. Hadnt seen them at all for the last 3-4 years. This year they were back! every day watched them doin fly by’s wondering WTF is going on.

Last week I was in fall brook and lots going on as well. Some of the blast made me feel we were in war time.

There is definitely a big exercise going on. I was on the 8 yesterday and a bunch of USMC convoys heading towards the desert.

Almost every Thursday we get 2 or 3 Apaches or an Apache and Chinook fly over the river, Saturday April 1st is the Air Show in Laughlin/Bullhead airport so that may be the cause of the increased activity over the norm. Last week we had 2 fighter jets buzz the river it was AMAZING.....Cool to see either way.

It’s spring time guys, which calls for better flying weather. Squadrons get behind on their flying hour programs during the winter months and need to catch back up. Red Flag is currently going on at Nellis. There’s an AR track on the California side of the lake that is constantly used. There’s also a DZ that’s used on the airfield in Blythe as well as Parker by numerous military and government entities.

C17s are amazing. Living in Camarillo we were beneath the Pt Mugu approach. Called my wife before we departed Hickman AFB HI and told her we’d be flying over our house in x amount of hrs. She said, all kinds of planes fly over our house going to Mugu. How will I know it’s you? I explained a C17 was massive, she’d know. When we approached Mugu from offshore, we didn’t even get to the 101 fwy. He put that aircraft in a tight turn U-turn over the farm fields and immediately landed. We never even got close to Camarillo.
