I came to RDP some time ago to search & find someone good, trustworthy & reliable to reglass the bottom of our Lavey since Chris closed the shop. We bought this boat new from Laveycraft 20 years ago and we use it a lot. It has 1100 hours on it mainly on the Colorado River lakes – Flaming Gorge in Wyoming all the way down to Squaw in Yuma. We have always had our 2 boys and at least 3 big dogs on the boat and while we take really good care of it, we have beached it on sand so it really needed the bottom redone.

Long story short, we found Mike Torres’ (Carrera Boats of SoCal) name in one of the threads. Did lots of research (saw the horror story of the shop in Havasu here in the lounge) and decided he was our guy. Took our Lavey down to his shop on Cawston in Hemet and were pretty impressed. Saw some of the boats he was working on including an old 21ft Tahiti waiting to be picked up by the customer – the before pictures and finished product were incredible. Mike gave us a quote, we gave him a deposit and throughout the process, Mike texted pics of the bottom of the boat and the progress of the project. When he was done, we also had it wetsanded and fully detailed because it has only been detailed/waxed until now & y’all can see for yourselves – it turned out absolutely beautiful. Thank you Mike Torres for taking such great care of her – she will be good for another 20 years! I'm going to attach a few pics of before, during & after the process.

Looks great! If you are comfortable can you ballpark the cost on that? Feel free to PM if that's easier or you. My FIL's boat needs similar treatment

They took the rack off and then strapped and raised the boat off the trailer with a big forklift I think - no they did not flip the boat.

Came out nice!

So are they building new Carreras down there? These the same guys that amassed all the molds from just about everyone?

I'm not sure - I know they own at least one Lavey mold but I will defer to Mike to respond. He is a member of RDP and will likely respond to your question soon Dave.

The boat is towed behind a 2007 40’ DP - the black smoke/oil residue is a constant battle.

More pics of the trailer what goes up top!
We hung out with you guys on the beach for the dam dam run last year. Thanks for letting the kids play with that underwater thing. Idk what they are called!

Boat looks good for 1100 hours!

I remember - fantastic day with y'all (it's called a sea scooter lol). We built the trailer for 2 seadoos when our boys were younger. When they outgrew them & they became illegal to run on the Colorado River lakes, we sold them and put our golf cart up there every trip. The campgrounds are almost always far from the water (Lucerne Valley, Bullfrog, Wahweap, Echo, Temple Bar, Willow Beach, Martinez etc.) and we have 3 GSDs so it is our only way to get from the moho to the boat. Has worked for us for many years.

Back in March I saw this thread on here and was looking for a local boat shop that I could trust...I reached out to Mike back then, but I didn't get a chance to take the boat over to his shop until recently....I took it to him to do some fiberglass/wood/gel repair around one of my trim tabs and also to do some gel repair on the black windshield areas which were in bad shape from the sun.

I have to agree with @kimbalee on this, @CarreraMike took my boat in on the Thursday before Memorial Day and had it done for me on Tuesday of this week. He communicated very well with what was going on through the whole process and the boat came out great. One thing that you never see, especially in the boating world, is Mike gave me and estimate of $xxxx amount and he actually finished the project for well under that amount and saved me some money, so I was very appreciative of that. I will definitely be taking my boat to him moving forward.
