Were the old tiles loose or broken? I assume loose from the poor underlayment?

Only in Illinois. o_Oo_Oo_OTaking selfies.....

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Right now my biggest fear is walking down to the unheated shop where the 2fiddy and Excursion are to see cracked blocks! We’ll see in spring when I fire them up if we have any leaks or milkshake oil:eek:

If you do its your own fault. Properly mixed anti freeze is good for WAY colder than the actual temps yooore experiencing.

I tested everything before winter as this is the first year without a heated shop. They tested -40 but, I’m paranoid lol. The thing I was really sweating was the dirtbike as thats just running evans or be cool ..I wandered down a few mins ago. I’ll rest easy tonight, all is good.

That shop will be insulated and heated this year!

Mornin fellers. Yesterday’ high was -14°F. I’m so looking forward to upping that to -6°F today....it shouldn’t hurt to pump gas into your vehicle. Luckily today is the last of it.

Going to get back after making boat parts tonight.

Had a little scare last night.

Started feeling a little cold in the house, checked the Nest thermostat and it showed no power going to it. Pucker factor a solid 8/10. Turned on my sealed gas fireplace (55,000btu) to throw some heat into the great room and I head down to the basement. 15yo Carrier furnace throwing Code 31. I've had furnace issues in the past and I know just enough to be dangerous, so of course, I have a new limit switch in the box so I throw it in. No love. Now it's Code 33, let it cycle and it goes Code 13.
Ok, out of new parts and knowledge so back upstairs to step 2...

YouTube.

The first video I find is a Canuck troubleshooting the same furnace as mine for Code 13. 8 minutes later I locate the roll out switch and find it has an external manual reset on it. Hit the reset, turn on the furnace and have sweet, sweet heat.

Frozen family and expensive overtime service call averted. Thanks Canadian dood, thanks YouTube. :D

Gonna call a local company and have the furnace gone thru just to be safe.

I had a similar but lesser scare a few weeks ago. Got out of bed and thought it felt cold; went to check temp and controller was blank except for a battery symbol. Apparently after 10 years you have to change them :D

Glad you figured it out. We’ve got a few small towns without electricity this morning and I can’t imagine dragging the generator out and getting it all hooked up in -30°F weather, especially with small kids counting on being warm.

Yesterday 7 dead semis in 15 miles. Today only 5:eek:

Stay safe boys.

It was 6 above in the garage this morning. NFW would I be able to get the Genny started if I needed to.

I'll have to do some thinking on a small, block heater for the genrator that is fed off a standby battery. Otherwise it just won't matter if I have the thing or not.

You can build a 3 sided doghouse and use the exhaust from your car.
It works. I've had to do it. Itll take a good half hour at -20

Look at all these life hacks in the Post Hor thread!

We got a diesel truck started by hanging a tarp over it all the way to the ground like a tent and lit a couple bags' worth of charcoal under it to get it warm enough to fire. Probably don't want to burn your house down, though, I'd recommend doing it outside!

Or you could have a heat tape or block heater plugged in anytime it was this cold to keep it at a reasonable starting temp.
