The other night I had some people in my garage (late night) and a giant rat ran across the concrete right outside where my garage door would close. First rat I have seen here in probably five years..

Well apparently he wasn't passing through as I found this today! Little fucker started eating the rubber on the bottom of my garage door and it looks like he got in.

IMG_4010.jpg

I grew up next to a big canyon with a never ending supply of pack rats, and all kinds of rodents.. let the games begin.

I can't find the good poison anymore and I have Kangaroo mice burrowing under my Travertine by the pool. What do you use, besides a hammer of course?

I have heard rumors that you might be able to buy strychnine laced grain in decent quantities in some states. Now this is just a rumor and there is no solid evidence that it comes in 25lb sacks for when you really need to get serious.

Like all poison watch out for non target species up to and including your kids and neighbors (depending on your relationship with them). :)

Glue trays work the best. I set 4 rat traps under my house a couple of weeks ago and they would eat the damn peanut butter right off them and the trap wouldn't go off.

Then I bought glue trays and put the peanut butter on them and got 5 in two nights. Got two on one tray.

google tomcat rodenticide get the red label not the yellow! red is single feed, yellow is mult-ifeed can't buy the red in CA.
but if you internet it you can get it!

I used the red to get rid of ground squirrels, I was being over run, in ca they took the single feed products off the shelf, with the multi feed that is available all i was doing was feeding them and they were getting fat and costing me a fortune works on mice and rats WORD OF CAUTION! this stuff will kill your dog the poison causes the rodent to bleed internally and seek water

...and with poisons, the rodents often die out in the open and kills the predatory bird that finds and scoops up the poisoned rodent.

Glue or snap traps are the best.

Depending on the size of what you are trying to catch it is a good idea to secure the trap with something, wire, twine, ect. The bigger mofos can scurry off and hide and end up dying behind a cabinet or wood pile when they drag the traps off.

Those traps are killer. They get the job done with a little peanut butter.

I have sold many of these and use one myself. First night I was shocked to find 7 rats in this deal, overall I have caught and killed 17 and now it's been weeks with no rats. They were going after my dog food and that's what I used to bait it.

Last spring I had a rat move into my houseboat electrical cabinet. It chewed the fuck out of the battery cables. I have traps out and catch a few a week. Use peanut butter. Dont poison them, they will crawl into somewhere you don't want and die. Look for the neighbor with the food source.

You need to chum a coyote into the neighborhood. Those will take care of the mouse/rat/cat/small yappy dog problem in short order.

After you catch them in this human trap do you drop the cage in water and drown the fuckers?

We get rats and mice on the property and use the old farm bait trick. Mix dry oatmeal and cement powder together and leave it where you've seen them. Put a try of water outside close to an opening. They eat the dry mix then get thirsty and drink the water. The concrete ball in their stomach kills them. Sounds like an old wife's tale but it works.

The wiring in your newer vehicles is soybean cornstarch based insulation and the rodents love to eat it.

Ive killed more innocent victims with glue traps than anything.

From lizards to cactus wrens everything gets hung up in them. Contac wont kill birds of prey. They claim a cat would have to eat 20 mice with contrac in them to be effected. They go home and die and become dehydrated playing cards

Many years ago a friends uncle trapped a few and released them by our house to expand his trapping business. Skunks, raccoons and opossums were not paying good. A dog or cat and the owner is forking over $$$. Now those yotes are terrorizing the hill and surrounding cities. 1 of the jobs I was at today lost all there cats. F***ing tree huggers are on a coexist trip and trying to claim they are native to Torrance. Friends dog was eaten in there own home by one that came in the back door when they were gone. They are cruising the city streets like they own the place as you can not shoot them.

Coon's aren't a problem.. Fuck spiders.

Best mouser / squirrel killer we have had yet, Stormer the female manx.

Dog would eat it.

Inside run under the boat then back to the tool box

Well he's getting a pass tonight because I've been busting balls all day today and tonight. But tomorrow he's a goner. I'm half ass thinking about leaving my garage cracked just so the little fucker doesn't chew anymore of my door.

I've been using one of those black Victor zappers for the past 8 years and it kicks ass. Tiny mice, huge rats, packrats, even outdoors when it's not wet out or tucked back under cover. :thumbsup

Ever tried OG snap traps? It's all about the bait.

Google shawn woods "mouse trap monday"

You're welcome

If I can find the spinning rod, I'll do it.

I might try those, but I'm going cheap first. Snap traps, and if that doesn't work I'll spring for the electric chair.

That's an interesting concept. Doesn't seem dangerous to kids or pets?

Oh I am well aware.

That looks badass! I don't really have a mouse problem but I kinda want one now just to make sure I dont. Lol!

I'm thinking about making them, and giving it a shot. Seems less dangerous than snap traps. Kids being taught to not touch that freaking thing seems cheap though.

Looks cool.. Looks expensive.. and one of the things I learned in the killing fields is multiple traps kill multiple problems. That thing looks way more pricey than an old snap trap.

Ok I read the whole thread hire a fucking pro! Some of the response are classic yes some products are banned here in ca for a reason and it's not the pros it's the internet. people are dumb and use too much product. First of if you are catching more than on a night you have a serious problem.start with a little exclusion any hole bigger than a 1/2 inch will allow a rat in your home. Snap traps are best but remember They are not eating in side your house they are nesting seal them out and then set traps the ones stuck inside will get hungry. Wow this a lot to type on my phone if want to talk pm me your # I will call you back.sorry I am very passionet about buissnes.

I am absolutely up for talking to you.. but this is a singular problem I think. I grew up in a house with a canyon to our back. So the "killing fields" aren't new to me. I just got caught up with life tonight but this fucker dies tomorrow.. and if he's got friends.. well they die too. ;). We are starting with snap traps but if I come up short I'll be giving you a shout!

Got a whole drawer full of various snap traps and I wasn't inferring they didn't work, certainly they often do. I bought my zapper to try something different and was so impressed by how consistently it worked it became my first choice. Size of critter didn't matter, from tiny field mice to squirrel sized grove rats, it produced consistent results. The zapper also keeps working, so you can get more than one. It's also easy to dispose of the dead pest, just dump it out.

After the wildfire in 07' and we were living in a 5th wheel in our driveway we were quickly overrun with mice and rats. I guess because they'd lost their natural environment and food source they were desperate.

I made the bucket contraption as well, damn, no fancy roller, just a stiff wire and empty water bottle with a dab of peanut butter. That thing kicked ass and every morning it would have one or occasionally several drowned field mice. One morning I came out and the water bottle was shredded, guess some coyote decided he wanted the P-butter. Rebuilt it and tried again, same results, so I retired it.

I wouldn't suggest leaving your garage door up a crack, perfect invitation for a rattler to slip in, especially if he smells a RAT :D
