Wondering if a whipple upgrade to my 600sci would lower reliability, anyone have a 600 with a whipple on it?
I know a lot of people have done this. I did it on my last boat and loved it. Not sure I have ever read someone regretting it...You should be just fine.
How much more horsepower did you get out of it?

View attachment 480481 Use the search on RDP and you can find a lot of info. I had a stage 2 for over 300 of the 405 hours I have on my boat with no problems. Loved it... Now I have the stage 4.. I don't know how much hp it actually is but I know it is a bunch... I had Aaron at Absolute Speed and Marine do mine. He can tell you all about it!
I think it sounds the same. I can tell it is slightly richer and it has a different "feel" while it warms up. After about 5 mins it settles down and acts like it always has. Sounds the same. Very good dock manners. No problems. With the cam upgrade does it sound more "lumpy" at idle?

I run a max machine XR drive. Hydromotive P5X 30 pitch prop. Or you can run a Maximus 30 pitch. Both props or five blades. I believe you are talking about a Howard sportdeck? Also, what drive are you running? I've got a stock XR for the 750HP we have now, but that stage IV upgrade puts the motor up in the 850-900HP range. I would imagine the drive needed some love to????
thanks for the info!!

Resurrecting this old thread. I have the merc 600SCI and I run it around 3800-4000 when cruising. I’m very conservative and will open it up when needed but don’t have the budget to blow it up prematurely.
My brother says he was reading I should be running then let off to say 3500 then back up to 4500-5000. He said he heard that running for long periods at a consistent rpm like 4000 can be a problem on the super charger? Is he right or is this bull shit? Boat does have an intercooler. I’m a utility guy not a motor buff so forgive my lack of knowledge.
When are you making your havasu return I miss seeing the fountain and your f34.Your brother is not giving you good advice.
Cruising at steady state low boost 4000 rpm is easy on the supercharger.
Doing repeated pulls to 5000 under boost would literally be harder on everything in/on the engine.

I miss it too. Likely next time will be the DCB regatta, unless I’m there for a delivery of a new M37.When are you making your havasu return I miss seeing the fountain and your f34.
Are you with DCB now?I miss it too. Likely next time will be the DCB regatta, unless I’m there for a delivery of a new M37.
