Hi All
Been dealing with this knee issue for 9 weeks and finally got the results. I have an orthopedic appointment Monday, and they always like to cut, anyone with any experience and suggestions as I walk into the butchers Den?
I’m 49 and in decent shape, just bad pivot on the leg during softball drills.

Arthroscopy provides a simple fix with a short recovery time and minimal post surgery therapy. Ignoring it or trying alternate treatments like stem cell, collagen, steroid or Synvisc injections, or anything labeled "holistic" or "natural" just allow more degradation of the miniscus, unnecessary pain, and spend time and money.

Trust me on this one. I am unfortunately an expert on knee issues. Been dealing with them for 50 years.

I had a small tear in my meniscus. Cortizone shot didn't work. Had surgery with no issues. Back to work the next day. No PT. Played golf 4 weeks later. Glad I did it.

In the 90's, I had 5 different meniscus tears. Each time, the doc would grind the surface smooth. We'll, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to understand that with each grind, you are losing the cushion between bones. Yep, I ended up with full bilateral knee replacements.
I hear the new technique is to micro stitch the tears, rather than grinding. This will avoid a later knee replacement.
If possible, have a consultation with Dr. Kharrazi from the sports medicine specialists at Kerlan Jobe. They are located in LA, Pasadena and Anaheim, in the big brown building just north of Angel Stadium.

An Orthopedic clinic out here wanted to cut and trim.

I went to UCLA and they said that too radical, injected a lube with pain killer instead.
Every molecule in my body lit up when she injected.
Not for wussies.

Takes a week to take effect, but is really good.

This. I had my left knee done. Dr. Metros Escondido. He's the best. I'll tell the funny story afterwards. Mine was partially torn. I have an area of bone on bone. But it ain't give out yet. 67. All OG parts. Well I got snipped.

That's a great story! I nicknamed the Nurse, " The Predator!" !°°!🤣

Dominate. It's a No biggie procedure.

The day of my surgery my wife made the downstairs couch into a temporary bed. After a few hours of trying to sleep. I went upstairs to my bed with no problem. Jut took it one step at a time. 😉

Had the same thing and went for the arthroscopy. I was back to normal is 2 weeks which amazed me. The pain before that was excruciating.

Knee’s been bothering me for a few months, mostly nagging dull pain around the clock. I found out on Monday I have osteoarthritis of right knee; and Acute lateral meniscus tear of right knee. Doc recommended cortisone shots and some PT.

I got a call yesterday from the doc saying that my insurance denied the treatment, because they consider the injections as “experimental” treatment. WTF.

I have Anthem Blue Cross PPO.

I had the same meniscus tear / osteoarthritis. The cortisone shot only worked for a couple days. PT didnt help either. Surgery was what helped me be pain free. I have BCBS PPO also.

Much like you I tore my meniscus when I was 30 playing baseball. Dealt with it off & on for 20 years. Then when exercising one day doing wind sprints I heard a POP. Immediately I couldn't walk on it without cringing in pain so I went to an Orthopedic Surgeon, had an MRI and it clearly showed a tear in my meniscus. Had the 20 minute arthroscopic surgery on a Friday and I was back at work on Monday walking freely and virtually pain free. While the surgeon was in there he also found 3 small cartilage tears and he removed those as well. The knee has been solid for over 10 years now post surgery. I would do it again - no question!!! Just an FYI - You need to do the Physical Therapy to get your full range of motion back. Thats probably the worst part of the process.

Where are you headed? I know you’re in the area so we use Garey Orthopedic out of Casa Colina.

I have United Health Care and the referral was to Premier Orthopedics in Upland. I had hernia surgery at Casa Colina, top notch facility for sure, They spoil you there.
