My dad was pretty tolerant of my mechanical shenanigans although there were a few times that he got really pissed. One of those times did involve the aforementioned lawn mower. After beefing up the engine and regearing the drive . He didn’t appreciate having to run behind it while mowing the lawn. I thought it was funny watching him engage the clutch and do the 50 yd dash. He was much less amused.
