So the wife has been in discomfort for about 3 weeks. They have been trying different things with no improvement. 2 days ago she had a cat scan. That is a whole other story/issue. The question is where would you choose to have it taken care of? Havasu, Kingman or Pheonix? Also if in Pheonix where?

Not too concerned with the travel just want to best care for the wife. Seams like Havasu could do it but the ball has been dropped a couple of times. Kingman is the first place out Havasu that people go but not sure if they will provide the best care/treatment. Pheonix there are so many options. I think that we are good to travel to any of these locations.

Looks like a kidney stone.
At that size, two options available.

  • ultrasonic blast (usually your in a pool). Only a few places are equipped to do this.
  • surgery (they go up the exit only hole and remove it)

when I had my 8MM stone, I ended up having surgery. Outpatient.
Best thing I did. Dr found a ‘J hook’ in the plumbing, which was causing smaller stones to get trapped and grow in size. He was able to remove the J hook and I have been stone free for 12+ years.

Phoenix or Vegas...I wish I could be more help as to who to call though. I just know both have more facilities available, as well as lodging if needed.
I get them a few times a year, though nothing of that size. As with everything else with them, I don't know how things differ as a female. I'm pretty sure it sucks the same though.

I'm certainly no doctor, but when my wife had a stone, they told her up to 5 mm usually pass on their own. Hers was 3mm and passed in a few days. Havasu only has one urologist and although he is very good, he's booked 3-6 months. We have no complaints in general with HRMC but use KRMC for genecology and recently had very successful colon surgery at Banner in Phoenix. My wife has had a few issues in the last couple of years but doing good now.

A family member of mine got tired of the knee doctors in Havasu and is having a knee replacement in Flagstaff next month. Maybe check there. 🤷‍♂️

There have been some horror stories at Havasu Medical Center over the last few years, some with tragic impacts on inmates. I would go to Phoenix and try to get in to the Mayo Clinic. It's the best hospital system in the world for a reason. (Biased because my wife used to work there)

Nik(Niko's) is having issues with his full replacement that was done 13months ago in LHC. Pain that is keeping him from sleeping & numbness down the leg.
.
I'm finally planning on getting mine done in December or so after putting it off for 44yrs but him telling me about his has me all sketched out again.😬😬😬

Yeah, Kidney stone. Failed to note it in the title. Ended up going to Kingman. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. It is hard when you are not sure of the options. It was a challenge just to get the results of the CT Scan. Kind of the wife’s fault as she expressed three weeks ago it was a UTI.

Dam, I didn't want to hear this, I'm in the same boat, I've been putting off knee replacement.

Make sure that the doc you choose does at least 10-15 knee replacements per month. You will lessen your chance of having problems. I had the left done on 2014 and the right in 2020 and both are great.

We headed up to Kingman. Checked in and now getting an ultrasound. Unfortunately this has gone on too long and the wife is not thinking clearly. I totally get it. The challenge is how these events are handled moving forward. She tends to express what she thinks things are as to her health. She gave them the thoughts of just antibiotics. So they pissed away 3 weeks. I need to find a way to be there even though I am not in town. Perhaps this is the start of her being with me no matter what so things do not spiral out of control. Sorry I am just babbling right now.….

I had one kidney stone episode about 20 years ago....went to the ER and they gave me morphine. I found out why that stuff was so addictive. I knew it had passed, but I literally remember lying and faking it to get another hit of morphine. That's the moment I knew I could never do drugs.

That is about what happened to me about 25 years ago. I thought all was well as she was not feeling well on Friday and then all good Saturday. Thought that it had passed. Blood was gone as well as pain. But no and here we go….

Here is a good one. I kind of recall this a year or so ago for some reason. There is not urologist in Havasu OR Kingman. So we might be heading to Vegas if they don’t get this thing moving.

Sucks but what can you do? Just wanted others to know the challenge.

I guess one good thing is that they will push us so we can cross state line. It also saves us an hour of travel time to Vegas.

Not to.take away from the situation, but my Uncle (lives in Chicago) had both of his knees done after needing it done for 20 plus years. He had it done in January, and was on an Elk hunt in Colorado in the fall. After hiking for days on end he said the only thing that didn't hurt was his knees.

Hopefully you can find something similar and have the same complaints. I know I'm destined for knee surgery and it scares the crap out of me.

That is what I am hoping for @Ziggy as well.

Hope everything works out. We do have a very good urologist in Havasu now, his name is Jason Flamiatos, but like I mentioned earlier, he's booked out many months, don't know if he makes any exceptions for emergencies.

My Ortho is one of the top sports injury docs around these parts, knees being his big specialized procedures.
Got to get through my pain management surgery tomorrow first.
Sharp knives terrify me.😳😳

While we’re discussing urologist, is interview guys have a serious issue with a potential prostate cancer after an MRI and you have biopsies done. Please reach out to me with the DM.. you’ll have to travel to Los Angeles, but a close friend of mine is probably one of the top urologist in the Western United States. He has equipment that no one in Nevada has and probably Arizona.

I had an issue a few months ago went there for the analysis and procedure came back clean. I’m good for another 20 years!

Hopefully everything turned out OK. I had a bout of KS a couple of years ago. Ended up passing a 4 and a 6 I think. I drink lots more water now...

I'm getting an MRI done this week on my enlarged prostate. The PA felt a hard spot on my prostate. Kinda has me nervous.

If they’re going go in and do a biopsy on your prostate and they see there is a concern. You need to have a physician that has equipment that with software integrated in the MRI with a live scan with a probe going in so they get the exact spot. This is generally done by feeding the disk information from the MRI into their software in a few days later doing the procedure using ultrasound. If
You need this, dm me.

Kingman (KRMC) is a good hospital and are part of the Mayo Clinic network. I've had a good experience with them. Havasu Regional= last choice👎

Off topic but...my families instructions if I'm hurt or needed a ER and CAN live for 2 more hours then drive right by havasu hosp.
I hear it's improving. But we are still not stopping

I think most hospitals have strengths and weaknesses. Havasu, like ours out here, can stitch up a wound, and set a break I think...and also do triage and call a helicopter if you're beyond that. With my son, lots of times it was dependent on symptoms. An hour to Phoenix Children's, or 10 minutes to local.

For me personally, my wife knows that if I admit I need to go to the hospital, it means the closest one. It means I done messed up something really bad.
