What are the names and locations of the launch ramps near boulder city? i know of hemenway, [and callville bay and temple bar, which are much further away], but i know absolutely nothing about the others.

would anyone list them for me? beginning with the ones closest to boulder city?

thanks,
peter

google maps shows no search results for boulder cove. there is something up the coast of lake mead, northwest of hemenway, called "boulder harbor". is that probably the same thing as boulder cove?

From B.C. instead of turing right for Heminway, keep going for 2-3 miles! It is where Lake Mead Marina used to be, before the lake got so low.

got it. thanks. is there a reason someone should bypass hemenway, and go to boulder harbor? maybe less crowded? pros and cons of both?

sorry to be such a noob. i've done most of my boating at mohave and havasu up till now. never been out on the vegas side of mead.

I've gone to Lake Mead Marine for as long as I can remember, he stay at the Hacienda hotel and launch there. It is a little shallow some times, but our 21' Malibu as never had a problem. Biggest I've seen go out of there was a 28' Aftershock. No problems.

Im just trying to figure out while the water is going up how the ramp will work out later on. About at 1102 now, supposed to be in the 1120's by end of summer. I was at Calville today. They already closed the new ramp they made. Back on the orignial ramp now. It was pretty busy on a Monday.

Damn, seems like last time I was there they just opened the new ramp and closed the old one. I need to get back out there.

Had a great time in the 6 days spent weather was really only hot one day
and that was only 112 with the rest being 102--106. Calm water for the most part with a thunder storm kicking up on sunday a little then blew past
the crowds never showed up as normal with only 40 cars in the parking lot
sure beats the hassle from some of the other places. LETS DONT TELL ANYONE

Sweet water looks pretty high... Did you launch out of Lake Mead Marina? And where were those pictures taken? (I'm going up in July 22nd and trying to scout it out)

So this past weekend I kept saying to myself I've seen this boat somewhere.

Didn't realize it was on here :smackhead

Fourth of July weekend is IMO the best time of year, weather wise at Temple Bar, combined with the fact that this year was one of the quietest 4ths ever, made it even better!

I actually think a lot of people know about Temple Bar, more then they let on, but stay away on their own because of its remoteness and lack of  :champagne: :party2: :drunk :puke: :drnkfr :beer :fingers:

Next time I see the boat I'll stop and introduce myself, & feel free to do the same if you see me.

Yeah, I think a lot of people stay away because of the non crazy as party seen... Me on the other hand, if I had a boat I would go there all the time. It's a little hard with stand ups, that's why I currently go out of Lake Mead Marine.

My grandparents started going in '74 and got a spot later that year, so I've been going my whole life.

I've always stayed in the trailer, so I couldnt tell you what its like to stay in the motel. And I'll never stay in the fishing cabins... Why they didn't put bathrooms in those I've don't understand?

Past 4th of July I only saw 1 person camping in the CG.

The they got a new cook at the restaurant, from what I've heard from others the food has gotten better. A freaking bag of ICE is over $4!
Haven't been to the bar in a few years, we were going to take my buddy's son who turned 21 a few weeks before the 4th, but he passed out early.

The view from our trailer :champagne:

Daaaaaaaamn, front row? What are you like the 2nd trailer from the end? LOL... We used to have Space #19. Top far corner spot. I was born in 71 and I believe my parents were going there before I was born. Lost the spot like maybe 17 or 18ish years ago. :grumble:

It's always been like that. We always used to go on all the major holidays and it was never crowded. And no one hardly ever was in that campground. Our trailer was in the very last row in the corner, so we always could see the camprground.

Yep #110... The things I've seen over the years :champagne:
Can't picture the spot, but I'll do a drive by next trip. That sucks, we had a few friends up there w/ spots that left around that same time.

Hey Delta,
Haven't chatted w/ ya in a while, been going to Temple and camping on the lake for prolly 15 plus years now, I have a little one now, so camping is a bit hot right now, we will need to wait till september, any trailers ever avail for sale or rent in there these days?Agreed w/ the cabins, stayed there in them once only due to bad weather and couldn't get across the lake to the campsite Just love Mead......:thumbsup

No, we put in on Thursday afternoon, I didn't take it out until Monday afternoon. We used to put in at Temple all the time, its only a hour drive from Henderson, that side of the lake is so much better. We bought a houseboat last year, we keep it at Callville, so that changed our boating quite a bit. I don't like towing the V-drive behind it, so we towed it to Temple and put in. We had 9 houseboats/cruisers in all, it was a great weekend! We used to camp at least 4 or more times a year out on that side of the lake, this was our first this year. Sounds like you have been there a long time, I think it was in 1983, we got caught in a storm in a houseboat that we rented from Echo Bay, we ended up tying up on the dock right outside the store/bar. They had sandbags around it because the lake was that high. We found a lot of good coves that year. Pictures from 4th weened,,

If I remember right from back in the day, there was always a loooooong waiting list for anyone wanting to get in on a spot. Part of the reason why my fam is still not there. I'm sure there are some peeps there that rent out there place. You ever traveled over the hill from the campground? I always wondered what's up with those homes over there.

Yeah, life sorta got in the way of me posting on here. Don't blame you on the "too hot for camping". Trailers are not publicly for sale, like Hooter Sled mentioned, there is a waiting list that you join in order to purchase a trailer. How long that might be ?????... I've heard people being on the list a year getting a trailer, and I've heard people being on the list 15 who still haven't gotten one. Keep in mind there's no financing, so that plays into how long you're on the list. In recent years people have bought the 1st spot they were offered, just to have a place up there. As far a people renting out their trailers, that is not suppose to happen but I'm sure some do, however no one I personally know does. FYI over the 4th I looked into getting a motel room (long story) for the annual "family vacation" in August, and they're booked solid until mid-Sept.

No worries... I really liked that cove/beach when the water was at '06-'08 levels, made a half-hearted attempt to find a spot out of the wind on Sunday, but with that armada it was difficult, plus I've always tried to give those on houseboats their space, and be respectful. Ended up going to a little island that we shared w/ 1 other boat/family, and the day before had about 15 boats around it. Somewhere on the internet (dont remember where right now) my dad posted video of the flood at in '83.

I'm sure there are some peeps there that rent out there place. You ever traveled over the hill from the campground? I always wondered what's up with those homes over there.

If I remember correctly back in the late '80s/early to mid '90s there was some shady shit going on in Temple Bar. Management was taking bribes from those trying to buy Trailers and those selling trailers. My dad put his name on the list in 1980 and removed himself (another long story) in 2000, & I want to say within that time he got 4 letters that trailers were for sale. But there always seemed to be people who just got a trailer up there. Plus they terminated leases with people who were letting others use their trailers. TB started to cross reference boat/trailer registrations with who was on the lease for the spot. The homes & mobile homes that are behind the very top row of the campground are where the National Park Service employes (Rangers) live, and where the Fire Truck, Ambulance, and unused Patrol boats are stored.

Hey HS, if that's the spot that used to have the old pink trailer, single wide with a pushout on one side, my Sister and Parents are the ones that bought that spot. They were on the list like 12 years I believe, and bought the first one that came up. I think back then the park tenants had first choice if another spot came available, so they bought just to get in and ended up liking it up there. :D

Approaching Aug 2007 levels. I launched at Boulder Cove Friday was great except for the stinking small dock. Sometimes I don't have anyone to drive the truck so I have to use the dock! Its too small, weekends I can't hardly use the dock. Hemingway actually has deep angle ramp working now.

My bro in law took these a few weeks ago. South Cove ramp. He didn't launch, just drove up to check it out.

Anyone been up to Sandy Point/Big Sandy lately? I'm wondering what the beach conditions are like with the water moving up so much. Weeds and mud?

I went out last weekend, the south side (windy side) is ok, there is a couple nice ones on the west point, the north side has some beaches, here in a couple of months it will be good again. I was able to get into the river for the first time in a couple of years, we went up into Iceberg Canyon, then came back because a nasty thunderstorm was rolling in. I can't wait until next year when it "supposedly" is going to be 1140'

Sweet! I heard a year or two ago you could not get to the north side of the point? If so, wow is all I can say. I have not been in about 3 years. Was the river muddy running up to Iceberg?

I took these pics in 7/2005 just 2 miles north of Sandy Point which I believe is the area called Iceberg Canyon.

All this talk about Mead and Sandy Point brings back old memories.

This picture was about 18 miles past the bat Guano mine. I'm guessing some time in the early 90's. We actually made it past the first rapids heading up the Canyon on this trip. It's sad the water is so low!

Wow, I barely remember what Mead looked like full... All because people in Hemet wanted a lake, that you can't even do anything but fish in...

That's whats good about the river though, it always stays the same, its just been tough the last couple of years navigating your way into it where its dumping into the lake. As the lake lowers, where the river hits the lake, the silt deposits are only like a foot deep, I tried to find any spot that was a little deeper to get my I/O through. But now that the lake is going up it was easy to get into the river and once your in its all good all the way back up the grand canyon. I remember in '86, we put our houseboat on the back side of a island just north of Pierce Ferry, just south east of the mouth of the grand canyon. We used to go eat lunch all the time at the waterfalls. Good times.

We had a 66' houseboat that we drove up to the waterfall one year! Those were such great years I hope the lake gets to that point again so I can take my kids up there.

I will dig through my pictures and see if I have any more from our river adventures. It always made me laugh passing the river tours coming out of the canyon. We would pass them on our way up, have lunch then pass them on our way out.

I like the Seven Crowns picture that used to be in the restaurant above the food bar with the houseboat at the falls, I asked the people that work there where it went after Forever Resorts came in, I wanted that thing! What's funny is that they always had that picture up, but yet in the Echo Bay houseboat rental agreement we weren't ever allowed past God's Pocket, there was even a sign in the lake that said NO HOUSEBOATS BEYOND THIS POINT.

I don't remember the trailer being pink. It was an old ass single wide though. The very top corner spot. Probably the Southeast corner. I think the trailer was like green or turquoise???

looks like i'm going to become a mead boater. nearing the end of escrow on a place in boulder city. pretty stoked. from reading this thread, i've got a LOT to learn about mead. the wife's parents used to have a trailer at temple bar, too... up until they got divorced in 1998... pisser.

i'm sure we'll be towing out there from BC, plenty.

in the mean time, my first couple of questions:

what are usually the calmest times of the year in terms of wind and flat water for going fast?

also, this time of year, summer, which side of the lake is usually the side most sheltered from the wind?

My bro in law took these a few weeks ago. South Cove ramp. He didn't launch, just drove up to check it out.

Anyone been up to Sandy Point/Big Sandy lately? I'm wondering what the beach conditions are like with the water moving up so much. Weeds and mud?

you still have Meadview lots????..

In general spring is almost always windy near dawn and dusk. Mid-summer gives you best chance at calm water. End of summer is best chance to get caught in a nasty storm due to monsoons but can be excellent if you watch the weather. Fall is sometimes windy but can be nice especially with the warm water and less crowds. You really just need to watch the forecast and I would invest in a good hard-wired UHF radio with a good quality antenna from boatantenna.com. UHF radios all come with weather NOAA channels pre-programed and you can usually get a forecast at any time and anywhere on the lake with one, even in areas where the wireless internet does not work.
