Living in Vegas for a decade and owning a small place in Havasu I spent plenty of time at both lakes. However we spent more time at Mead because it was less than 30min from our front door.

I hear a lot of people complain about Havasu being so crowded but Mead is about the same distance as Havasu from most SoCal cities so it surprises me more SoCal folks don't go to Mead.

We would go to Havasu to have more of that party atmosphere, hang with RDP and HB friends, and just to get out of town for mini vacations. When we just wanted to run in big open water, have beaches to ourselves and not deal with anyone we would stay at Mead (majority of the time).

Mead has a special place in my heart because that is where I first started boating and it was my home lake for 10 years. I do love both places and they offer different things.

Just curious why majority of SoCal people go to Havasu over Mead.

The answer is probably all the mini bikinis at Havasu and that is a great reason!!!

Pasties! ;)

This the first FULL year I've spent in AZ, Havasu and Parker!...Try to get on the water 2-3 times a week.....Or more! o_O September wasn't bad, October through May is just plain awesomeness on the water!...Pick'n a couple weekends to run the channel and take pics at Spring Break can be fun...Unless you have a metal boat with a big-ass river anchor up front!...rockpaperscissor...Metal breaks Glass! <..Emoji goes here...Other than that!..We avoid weekends!...for Mid-week runs...And done/out before most others get in!
And repeat! :)

It won't be long and we'll be roll'n to some new waters!

Mead = lots of boating and can be secluded

I am a meadview junky. But it’s 6.5 hours from home. Parker/havasu is 3.5-4. Hands down no comparison for me. Mead is heaven on earth for me, unless it’s blowing. I don’t have enough tattoos for havasu. I like Parker, because it’s the perfect 3 day trip for me.

We day launch out of south cove and stay at the meadview motel. That part of the lake is the best. Ski until you can’t even close your hands anymore.

I'm a So Cal peep, and to be honest don't do the river often (as it were, the entire river/lake system) but grew up doing them all.
One of my best friends dad has had a place at Mead for decades. Temple Bar. It's off the beaten path. I like it.
(Thumbs up emoji thingy here)
He knows all the striped bass honey holes and has the fried fish taco program down to a science. (Another two thumbs up emojis here) ...(@RiverDave  )

Havasu is Havasu. If I want to see (boobie emoji here) it's the place.
If I want my own little private paradise it's Mead.
I prefer laid back, and my own music;)

But. Mead is closed!

From where I’m located in OC it’s 277m to Vegas and 304m to Havasu. But I like Parker over both of them so I don’t have a dog in this race, lol

The best place on Mead is up past Temple Bar , no CF launch ramps , no mass of people , and usually nice flat water. That being said , Havasu offers way more diversity and choices.

What is the lake like up at Temple? Wide, big, and subject to blow out days?

Havasu on weekends is a place to see and be seen at
mid week is great
Mead is a boating lake, stretch your legs and go get some Serenity Now and get some ;)

I also dont understand why people drive 5hrs from the daily highway traffic and crowds of people and bs
to get in line and traffic and crowds on the lake

also could be that Vegas traffic on sunday is HELL and
full of lost money and hangovers all the way past victimville
and not much to do at night at waters edge like havasu

I grew up on both of them, had family with a place at meadview and we would go to the springs a couple times per year. Lake Powell is better than both of them IMO. Definitely a haul for you SoCal peeps, but not too bad for Phoenix folks.

If one area is blown out , just go a little farther and around the corner , and wind gone . Mead is like 5 lakes all connected

We used to go to Mead all the time in the 90's ... Temple Bar & Echo Bay ( geez what a drive from O.C.) ... we changed to Havasu when everyone's kids got older and wanted something to do at night. Cool thing about Havasu is all the peeps you meet and hang out with through the years ... both personal & biz relationships.

Haven't been to Mead in 30 years and thinking of going early spring. Where's a decent hotel/casino to stay at that is closer by the lake?

I concur on powell. We do lone rock and stay right on the beach. It’s awesome. We try to go every other year. I like mead better than havasu, but it’s tiring loading all the stuff and unloading. we did stay at pirates cove in trailers and buoyed our boats, that was fun and relaxing.
