That happened to my step Dad. They actually had to go back in and take the hip out. He went 3 months without any hip. So I'm well aware what can go wrong.
Yeah, mine was the left knee. The prosthesis was removed on Christmas Eve 2009, and a "spacer" (probably a piece of 2 X 4) was inserted. That continued until March 10, 2010. In the meantime I was getting antibiotic infusion through a PICC line every other day. Retail on each dose was about $2,300.

I remember the dates and details because it was effing horrible. I was bedridden and couldn't put any weight on the joint while using a walker.

My brother snapped a pic of the top of my femur that they cut off in the operating room. He asked if I wanted to see and I told him I wasn't ready for that. Well tonight I said I think I'm ready, text it to me. I wasn't ready.🤮 But it is pretty obvious after looking at it why I was in so much pain.

For those I've been around, most suffered longer than they needed to, before deciding to get the hip or knee replacement.
Usually it takes a wife or friend to ensure the patient, things will be taken care at home during their down time. Not sure why a trophy husband would have to wait that long😂

Good job finally getting it done. 👍

Had my right one done on Aug 23 in at around 9am home the same day. Still have some thigh pain but the hip pain is gone. Been going to the driving range a few days a week. Overall it's been a great experience. Can't say enough good things about my surgeon Dr. Lee (Kaiser). He took one look at my x-ray and said "your hip is horrible" to which I said yes I know. He repeated that right before I went to OR and after he said that he had to chip out an inch of bone from my pelvis in order to do the implant. I can now walk normally. Everything is easier. I have said that before surgery my life was one big workaround. On the list to get the left one done, should happen in the spring.
Glad to hear you were happy with KP. I have Kaiser and was considering changing to a PPO to give me more choices. I am 56 and will looking at a hip replacement as some point. I have already done PT and also do my own therapy daily. My X ray back in April was a grade #4. Pain is not an issue but range of motion is.

Some say wait until you really need it and others say get ahead of it and just get it done. 🧐

The wait list is 6/9 months. IMO try to get Dr. Lee and get on his list. Can't say enough good things about him.

I wouldn't say I suffered longer than needed because I did everything I could to get it taken care of ASAP, but with that said, the surgery didn't happen a day too soon. I ended up going out of network to get it done sooner, I would have been waiting until summer if I didn't. It also helps that I had an "in" with the doctor.

It’s tough to just walk in off the street. You usually need a primary care doctor, and a little health history.

Did you have them. Check out the colon while they were down there? 😁
